WEEK 5 Healing the World
Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases. . . . But he was wounded for our transgressions. . . And by his bruises we are healed. —ISAIAH 53:4-5
THE WORLD EXPERIENCES different forms of brokenness. As you reflect on the questions at the end of each week’s readings and pursue the news-related exercises, you see brokenness in the lives of individuals, in states and nations the world over. As you journey toward Easter, you see the broken nature of humanity in the scriptures associated with the season. People come to Jesus for healing. They hear him speak about sin; he calls them to repentance. One passage, traditionally associated with Lent, recounts the death of Lazarus and the miracle in which Jesus invoked God’s mercy to return Lazarus to life. 79
