Modern Overhaul
A DATED HOUSE ON BADIN LAKE GETS A MODERN REFRESH BY THE DESIGNERS AT HOUSE OF NOMAD.
TEXT BY ANNE MARIE ASHLEY
WHEN THESE REPEAT clients enlisted the designers at House of Nomad to overhaul their Badin Lake home, the request was clear: make it modern, make it welcoming, and make it luxuriously family-friendly.
“The home is a beautiful lakefront property, but it was stuck in the 90s,” says House of Nomad partner and designer Kelley Lentini. “It was a place where the family could easily retreat to from Charlotte, without the fuss of a long drive— conveniently close with a faraway feeling.” The homeowners wanted a retreat for their weekend escapes and summer vacations with their children when they were home from college. With a sort of “escapes” mentality built into the House of Nomad mission statement, the designers knew exactly what was needed and transformed the home into a layered and comfy lakeside haven.

COLOR & TEXTURE
"We brought the lake feeling in through paint choices and natural materials like the Benjamin Moore Newburyport Blue paint in the dining room and the vintage pencil reed coffee table in the living room," says Lentini of their design. Arteriors pendants make a statement in the dining room, with HON table and chairs. In the foyer, a Visual Comfort lamp sits atop the console from HON, alongside HON accessories and rug underfoot.

VINTAGE & SOURCED
"The timing of the project was perfect, as we were in the midst of a serious vintage sourcing trip to Round Top, Texas, overlapping with High Point Market," recalls Lentini. "We were able to send the clients photos and make purchases in real time. We snagged the incredible rug for the living room, artwork for the landing, a vintage chair, a floor lamp, and a coffee table for the living room. It's such an incredible way to design for a client." The shelves in the living room house some of HON’s special travel finds, like their Embera masks from Panama alongside a nine-foot canvas tree and the vintage chair from the sourcing trip to Round Top. A custom vintage Moroccan runner covers the stairs, and the bench is from Kravet, covered in custom fabric.

IN & OUT
Outdoor sofas from Harbour and chairs from Union Home make the sunroom a perfect marriage of indoors and outdoors.
