ABOUT AISB AISB’S COMMUNITY AISB was founded in 1962 by the US Embassy to serve the educational needs of the American and international expatriate community. As the school has grown, many local Romanian families have become part of the school community together with expatriate families from government, business, and social welfare organizations. AISB has a richly diversified population of approximately 853 studentsfrom 57 nationalities attending Early Childhood 3 through Grade 12. Romanians comprise approximately 30% of the student population, North Americans 15%, and Israeli, Germans and Turkish 4% each. The balance are from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Australia, and South and Central America. AISB’S FACILITIES Our campus covers ten hectares (about 25 acres), and offers state of the art facilities to our students, including a performing arts theater/ auditorium, library & media center, three computer labs, cafeteria, gymnasiums and extensive sports facilities. The campus is located in the Baneasa forest area, approximately 10 km from the center of Bucharest and 13 km from the Henri Coanda International Airport.
AISB’S FACULTY AISB is committed to high standards of achievement, as exemplified by a highly qualified faculty who have continuous access to current instructional materials and teaching strategies. The school actively supports and encourages the professional growth of its faculty and staff. ACCREDITATION AISB is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools for grades K-12, and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs. ABOUT THE PTO The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers whose goal is to support the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. The PTO strives for continued parental involvement to help build a better educational environment for our children. As well as providing funds for the AISB Scholarship Program, we also provide resources to assist teachers and administrators in doing their best work. Through fundraising, the PTO is able to provide financial support to student and teacher-led projects. We are also involved in efforts to help the local community.

Dear AISB Community, It is with pleasure that this letter welcomes you to the Annual AISB PTO Auction Gala. Over the years, the Gala has been one of the highlights of our school community programs and we are most proud and thankful for your continued dedication and support of all our students and the wider Romanian community. This year’s PTO Auction Gala, like the many that have preceded it, has one clear objective – supporting children; those currently attending AISB, and also those students who will be earning a place on our competitive scholarship program. To help reach that objective, the proceeds of this year’s Gala will be used in two key ways:
Message from the Director
• AISB Scholarship Program – The PTO has continuously supported the AISB scholarship program for many years and made a meaningful and significant difference in the lives of highly qualified students from the local Romanian community; these are students who would otherwise be unable to afford our tuition and fees. Through the scholarship program, they have an opportunity to study at AISB and earn the prestigious IB Diploma, allowing us to prepare them for top universities world-wide. Since the program began in 1999, we have been able to provide scholar-

Dintre toate proiectele pe care scoala noastra le-a sustinut de-a lungul vremii, acesta s-a evidentiat in mod deosebit iar noi suntem extrem de mandri si de recunoscatori atat pentru daruirea cat si pentru sprijinul acordat de catre elevii nostri precum de multi reprezentanti ai comunitatii romanesti si internationale. Ca si in anii precedenti, PTO Auction Gala are si acum un singur obiectiv foarte important: sprijinul acordat elevilor, atat celor care deja frecventeaza scoala noastra cat si al celor care vor castiga un loc la AISB in urma sustinerii examenelor de bursa. Pentru ca aceste obiective sa poata fi atinse, toate fondurile stranse in urma acestui eveniment, vor fi folosite in doua directii esentiale: • Programul de burse al AISB: PTO a sustinut in permanenta programul de burse al scolii noastre si a schimbat considerabil vietile multor elevi eminenti. Acesti

They have excelled as valedictorians, salutatorians, service leaders, artists, and athletes, and have made a positive difference in the AISB Community. • PTO Grant Request Fund – This invaluable program created by the PTO helps fund projects that fall outside the normal operating budget. In past years, PTO Grants have helped fund a creative program for children through our library, provided extra instructional materials for our students and parents, and supported student-led community service programs. I would also like to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of our Auction Gala Co-Chairs, Catalina Gardescu, AISB Manager of Admissions and External Relations, and Fabiana Papastefani, PTO President. They, together with their superb PTO committee, have created tonight’s “Little Paris” evening. Insa, datorita programului de burse ei au avut posibilitatea de a studia in cadrul scolii noastre, de a obtine prestigioasa diploma IB, si de a putea merge mai departe catre universitati de top din lumea intreaga. Din anul 1999, cand am inceput derularea acestui program, 35 de elevi dintre care 34 cetateni romani, au beneficiat de acest program. Toti s-au remarcat ca sefi de promotie, lideri ai programelor de serviciu in favoarea comunitatii, artisti, atleti sau varfuri ale claselor din care au facut parte. De asemenea, prezenta lor a avut un impact pozitiv asupra comunitatii AISB. • Finantarile PTO: Acest program nepretuit a fost infiintat de catre PTO in scopul de a finanta anumite proiecte care nu sunt prevazute in bugetul nostru anual. In ultimii ani, prin intermediul acestor fonduri am reusit infiintarea unor programe educationale creative in cadrul bibliotecii scolii noastre, am reusit achizitionarea unor materiale educative aditionale atat pentru elevi cat si pentru parinti, si de asemenea am putut sa sprijinim anumite programe de
serviciu in favoarea comunitatii initiate si desfasurate de elevi. Doresc de asemenea pe aceasta cale sa le multumesc pentru eforturile deosebite depuse in organizarea acestui eveniment, Catalinei Gardescu, Manager de Admiteri si Relatii Externe al AISB si totodata co-Presedinte al PTO Auction Gala cat si doamnei Fabiana Papastefani, Presedinta PTO care impreuna cu neobositii membri ai Comitetului PTO sunt artizanii evenimentului “Bucharest, My Little Paris!”. Message from the PTO President
Welcome to our 18th Annual AISB PTO Auction Gala, our most important fundraising event. Our Gala is such a special one: it is a first class party where all members of our huge family get together to enjoy one another’s company, be generous, and bid on the most wonderful items donated by our extremely generous sponsors. This Gala, like others before it, is organized to collect funds to support and offer the biggest gift of all to some of the brightest kids in this town – the finest international education and a brighter future for them and not only; very importantly, it provides an opportunity to bring positive change to their... to our country: Romania. Part of the funds raised at the Gala go to supporting the AISB Scholarship Program, giving children who could otherwise not afford tuition at AISB, a chance to be part of our community and earn the prestigious qualifications that will set them up to be successful adults. The students who earn a place at AISB through the competitive scholarship program are highly qualified boys and girls from the local community who enhance the overall level of our school as they bring with them a high degree of motivation, intelligence, community spirit and caring for others. The PTO also funds other proactive and brilliant projects, many of which are designed, led, and implemented by our students. Through the PTO Grant Request Fund, we give our students the opportunity to expand their life experiences even further, alongside the academic program. We support a variety of student Community, Action and

AISB PTO Gala este de asemenea un eveniment extrem de special: in primul rand este o petrecere de prima clasa unde membrii unei mari familii se aduna pentru a se bucura de compania celorlalti, pentru a fi darnici si pentru a licita pentru obiectele minunate donate de catre sponsorii nostri extraordinar de generosi. Ca si in anii trecuti, acest eveniment este organizat pentru a putea sustine si oferi cel mai minunat dar celor mai inteligenti copii din oras - cea mai buna educatie internationala, un viitor stralucitor si sansa de a aduce o schimbare pozitiva in tara lor, de fapt in tara noastra, Romania. Service projects, the AISB Library & Media Center, Destination Imagination, Mother Tongue Program, and Vampire Soccer Academy, to name a few. We also fund the Guest Artist program that brings professional artists, writers, directors, actors, and musicians into the classroom. Furthermore, our High School kids design and implement projects that assist fellow students in the wider community of our host country, allowing them, through the PTO Grant Program, to add value and give back to the people of Romania. Your participation in tonight’s Gala is a testimony to your commitment to education; to ensuring the best possible education and resources for the students who, now and in many years to come, will walk the AISB hallways and discover their passions in AISB classrooms. Your involvement is a demonstration of your unconditional support in building the leaders of tomorrow, and for that, we cannot thank you enough. De asemenea, PTO finanteaza numeroase alte proiecte unice si proactive, multe dintre acestea fiind create, conduse si implementate chiar de catre elevii nostri. Cu ajutorul Fondului de Finantare al PTO, elevii nostri au posibilitatea ca, pe langa programa academica, sa isi extinda mai departe experientele de viata. Astfel, sustinem mai multe proiecte legate de munca in folosul comunitatii, biblioteca scolii, concursul Destination Imagination, programele de invatare a limbii materne sau Academia de Fotbal Vampires. Sustinem de asemenea si Programul Artistilor fiind astfel posibil sa invitam in scoala diferiti artisti, scriitori, regizori, actori si muzicieni. Mai mult, elevii nostri de liceu creeaza si implementeaza proiecte pentru a-si ajuta colegii din alte scoli romanesti, oferindu-le astfel posibilitatea cu ajutorul Fondului de Finantare al PTO, sa isi evidentieze valorile care se vor rasfrange in final asupra insusi poporului roman.
Participarea dumneavoastra in aceasta seara la Gala AISB PTO reprezinta o dovada a devotamentului dumneavoastra atat fata de educatie si invatatura cat si fata de dorinta de a asigura cea mai buna pregatire si cele mai bune resurse elevilor care, multi ani de acum inainte, vor pasi pe coridoarele AISB si isi vor descoperi pasiunile in clasele scolii. Nu va putem multumi indeajuns pentru implicarea dumneavoastra ce reprezinta de asemenea o dovada de netagaduit a sprijinului neconditionat in dezvoltarea liderilor de maine. Highest bid at 22:00 wins. 2. In case of a dispute, the Auction Committee will determine the winning bidder. The decision will be final. 3. The Auctioneer may specify a minimum bid for any Live Auction item, and may remove an item if it
doesn’t receive sufficient bids. The winner will be the highest bidder upon the fall of the Auctioneer’s gavel, and the Auctioneer will make the final decision on any dispute. 4. All bids using your number are binding offers for which you are financially responsible. 5. All items, however described, are sold “as is.” Some items have black-out dates or other restrictions, which the committee

PETRU CALINESCU
Mr. Bryan Jardine is a California-admitted attorney who has lived and worked in Romania since 1996. He is currently the managing partner of the Bucharest office of the Viennabased law firm Wolf Theiss.
Petru Calinescu is a versatile singer/songwriter based in Bucharest, Romania. Petru discovered his passion for music and theater during his time as a student at AISB (Graduating Class of 2005), and then went on to hone his craft at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, patroned by Sir Paul McCartney, which he graduated from in 2011.
Besides being a member of the Board of Trustees at AISB, Bryan has appeared as a “guest auctioneer” at a number of charity events over the years, including among others, the OvidiuRom Halloween Ball, the Friends of the National Museum of Art, the Caledonian Ball, and our very own, the AISB PTO Auction Gala, 2013: Cabaret.
CORTEZ Cortez has a passion for music! Their backgrounds in jazz, rock, alternative music and theater blend together for a great sound. They are popular performers at Bucharest’s Music Club and the Hard Rock Cafe, and at the numerous concerts they perform throughout Romania. Ioni Oprea Cortez - vocals Oros Pal Josef - keyboard Hunor Orth - guitar Mircea Preda - bass Mirko Grusa - drums
Petru’s music career so far has already seen a few notable achievements. He composed the official anthem for Europa FM’s 2013 charity campaign “Nu Esti Singur Pe Lume” (featuring a selection of Romania’s best-known singers). Elsewhere, his song “Broken Heart” (performed by his former classmate Maximilian Muntean) reached the 2013 Eurovision National Semifinal stage. As a performer, Petru has twice featured as special guest singer at Loredana’s 2012 and 2013 concerts at Sala Palatului, to great reviews. Petru will be performing at his third AISB Gala, this time alongside his lifelong friend and fellow singer Maximilian Muntean.

MAXIMILIAN MUNTEAN Maximilian Muntean discovered his passion for music when he was a 4 year old child, while watching his father play the piano and while he listened to classical music. He has studied classical piano for almost 12 years and is a graduate of the Bucharest Art School in modern singing. Maximilian has constantly been in a continuous search for means of improving himself as a person and as an artist.
DORINA VASILASHKO
Among Maximilian’s achievements are the participation and prizes at several national and international festivals, as well as making it to the semifinals of both The Voice of Romania TV contest and the Eurovision national selections. During his musical years, he has been part of numerous solo jazz / cabaret concerts, as well as many concerts with his colleagues in Merci Band which includes Sebastian Muntean – his brother and current lead singer at Roads Band, and Adina Raducan – recent winner of the X Factor Romania Contest. Regardless of the formula, Maximilian has received great reviews for his vocal quality and interpretation, as well as for his passion for music.
BOGDAN BARA Bogdan Bara has been a DJ since 2003. He plays all music genres so that everyone has a chance to enjoy themselves and also played music at over 200 private events.
Moldavian-born Dorina Vasilashko, from Chisinau, is a self-made singer. With her mother in Moscow, Dorina came to Romania to make a career for herself. Born into a family of artists, Dorina now performs live French songs from Edith Piaf’s repertoire, Romanian songs, and traditional Russian songs. Dorina has also recently been one of the X Factor Romania competitors and the publics’ sweetheart.

METRO Cash&Carry Romania opened its first store in October 1996, being the first company on the Romanian market to introduce the cash&carry system. At the moment, the company operates 32 self-service wholesale stores around the country. METRO Cash&Carry Romania offers its professional customers complete business solutions (extensive selection of top quality products at competitive prices, adapted services, specialized trainings etc). To further strengthen the partnership with its professional customers, the company opened in 2008 the Gastronomy Competence Center and the Traders Competence Center; moreover, in 2010 launched METRO Punct (a new cash&carry store format ) and in 2012 opened METRO Office Direct, the first online store in the cash&carry field in Romania, which later changed its name to METRO Magazin Online. Beginning with March 2012, METRO Romania launched LaDoiPaĹ&#x;i, a customer support programme tailored to help the existing independent small shops. As of May 31st, 2012, METRO Romania launched De-ale noastre programme, a premiere on the Romanian market, which consisted in the support of the local vegetables producers, with the vegetables resulted traded in the METRO Cash&Carry Romania store network.
