ABOUT AISB COMMUNITY AISB was founded in 1962 by the US Embassy to serve the educational needs of the American and international expatriate community. As the school has grown, many local Romanian families have become part of the school community together with expatriate families from government, business, and social welfare organizations. AISB has a diverse population of approximately 830 students from 56 countries attending Early Childhood 2 through Grade 12. The balance are from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Australia, and South and Central America. FACILITIES Our campus covers ten hectares (about 25 acres), and offers state of the art facilities to our students, including a performing arts theater/auditorium, library & media center, three computer labs, cafeteria, gymnasiums, and extensive sports facilities. The campus is located in the Baneasa forest area, approximately 10 km from the center of Bucharest and 13 km from the Henri Coanda International Airport. FACULTY AISB is committed to high standards of achievement, as exemplified by an exceptional and qualified faculty who have
continuous access to current instructional materials, training, and teaching strategies. The school actively supports and encourages the professional growth of its faculty and staff. ACCREDITATION AISB is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools for grades EC2-12, and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs. ABOUT THE PTO The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers whose goal is to support the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. The PTO strives for continued parental involvement to help build a better educational environment for our children. As well as providing funds for the AISB Scholarship Program, they also provide resources to assist teachers and administrators in doing their best work. Through fundraising, the PTO is able to provide financial support to student and teacher-led projects. They are also involved in supporting projects to help the local community.

Welcome to The Burgundy Ball, the 19th edition of the Annual AISB Parent and Teacher Organization (PTO) Auction Gala! Over the years, the Gala has been one of the highlights of our school community programs and we are most proud and thankful for your continued dedication and support of all of our students and the wider Romanian community. This year’s event, like the many that have preceded it, has one clear objective – supporting children; those currently attending AISB, and also those students who will be earning a place on our very competitive scholarship program. To help reach that objective, the proceeds of this year’s Gala will be used in two key ways:
Message from the Director
• AISB Scholarship Program – The PTO has continuously supported the AISB scholarship program for many years and made a meaningful and significant difference in the lives of highly qualified students from the local Romanian community; these are students who would otherwise be unable to afford our tuition and fees. Through the scholarship program, they have an opportunity to study at AISB and earn the IB Diploma that prepares them for universities world-wide. Since the program began in 1999, we have been able to provide scholarships for 38 students, 37 of whom are Romanian citizens. They have excelled as valedictorians, salutatorians, service leaders, artists, and athletes, and have made a positive difference in the AISB Community.
Bine ați venit la Burgundy Ball, a XIXa ediție a Galei Anuale cu Licitație a Comitetului de Părinți și Profesori (PTO) din cadrul American International School of Bucharest! De-a lungul anilor, Gala, a fost una dintre cele mai importante proiecte desfășurate de comunitatea AISB și vă suntem extrem de recunoscători pentru dedicarea și sprijinul pe care il acordati comunității AISB. Evenimentul din acest an, ca toate cele precedente de altfel, are un obiectiv foarte clar – susținerea copiilor; atât a celor care în prezent urmează cursurile AISB, cât și a celor ce vor obține un loc în cadrul programului competitiv destinat burselor. Pentru a atinge acel obiectiv, fondurile obținute în urma Galei cu Licitație de anul acesta, vor fi întrebuințate în următoarele două situații fundamentale: • Programul de Burse AISB – Comitetul de Părinți și Profesori (PTO) a susținut în mod constant programul burselor, care a făcut o diferență semnificativă în viețile elevilor eminenți din cadrul
• PTO Grant Request Fund – This invaluable program created by the PTO helps fund projects that fall outside the normal operating budget. In past years, PTO Grants have helped fund a creative program for children through our library, provided extra instructional materials for our students and parents, and supported student-led community service programs. I would also like to acknowledge the remarkable efforts of our PTO President, Mrs. Sorina MureșanTulea, the PTO Executive Committee, and in particular of Mrs. Milica Madadi and Ms. Catalina Gardescu, Chairs of tonight’s Burgundy Ball. I echo Mrs. Madadi’s words when she says that “the joy in knowing that we contributed to offering an extraordinary chance for a few remarkable students with excellent results and unlimited perspectives to study at our school is the motivation for us to organize this project that requires a lot of effort and time, but which is essential and absolutely worth continuing year after year!” We will surely enjoy an evening of fun with our friends and AISB family and it will be an event to remember with many wonderful memories to cherish. Datorită acestui program de burse, ei au oportunitatea de a studia în cadrul AISB și de a obține Diploma de Bacalaureat Intenațional, care îi pregătește pentru universități din toată lumea. De la lansarea acestui program în 1999, am putut oferi burse pentru 38 de elevi, dintre care 37 sunt cetățeni români. Ei au excelat ca sefi de clasă, sefi de promoție, leaderi pentru servicii aduse în folosul comunității, artiști, și atleți, și au adus schimbări pozitive în cadrul comunității AISB. • Fondul de Subvenții al PTO – Acest program neprețuit înființat de PTO ajută la finanțarea proiectelor care de regulă depășesc bugetul stabilit inițial. În ultimii ani Fondul PTO a ajutat la finanțarea unui program creativ pentru copii prin intermediul bibliotecii noastre, a furnizat materiale didactice pentru elevii noștri și pentru părinți, și a susținut programe în folosul comunității conduse de elevi.
Aș vrea de asemenea, să recunosc meritele deosebite ale Președintei Comitetului de Părinți, Dna. Sorina Mureșan-Tulea, și în special ale Dnei. Milica Madadi și ale Dnei. Cătălina Gărdescu, coordonatoarele evenimentului Burgundy Ball din această seară. Citez declarația Dnei. Madadi când spun că ”bucuria de a ști că am contribuit la oferirea unei șanse extraordinare elevilor remarcabili cu rezultate excepționale la învățătură și perspective nelimitate de studiu în cadrul instituției noastre de învățământ reprezintă motivația noastră de a organiza acest proiect ce necesită mult timp și efort, dar care este esențială și absolut necesar să o continuăm în fiecare an!” În mod sigur ne face plăcere să petrecem o seară plină de distracție împreună cu prietenii și familia AISB, ceea ce cu siguranță va fi un eveniment memorabil cu multe amintiri neprețuite. The 19th annual edition of our traditional Gala, The Burgundy Ball, is being held due to your on-going support and your generous contributions, with the organizing efforts of parents, teachers and administrators, as well as of students of AISB. Over the years, the AISB PTO Auction Gala has supported the AISB Scholarship Program and the PTO Grant Request Fund:

• Over 80% of funds raised at the Gala are directed towards supporting the AISB Scholarship Program. Thanks to your generosity, exceptional students have the opportunity to study at AISB and to access prestigious Universities worldwide, as part of our excellency-driven AISB community. More than 30 scholarships have been awarded by AISB since this program began in 1999. • Additionally, the Gala finances the PTO Grants Program, with funds allocated exclusively to school projects designed and created to enhance learning experiences, creativity, service or action. This benefits the students involved as well as the related constituents. The library creative family reading programs, international and local guest authors’ visits, and student-led service learning programs, are just a few examples of the actions supported by the PTO through the Grants.

Auction Guidelines GENERAL AUCTION GUIDELINES 1. Upon arrival, register to receive your bid number and paddle. 2. Use this number and paddle to bid on all items. 3. Paddles will be collected at the end of the live auction.
4. Following the live auction, guests must pay for all of the items which were won* and take them upon departure from the Gala. 5. The Gala Committee will not be held responsible for any items left at the end of the evening.
AUCTION RULES 1. Silent Auction bids must respect stated minimum bid and stated minimum increment, or they will be disqualified. Bids may not be withdrawn. Highest bid at 22:00 wins. 2. In case of a dispute, the Gala Committee will determine the winning bidder. The decision will be final. 3. The Auctioneer may specify a minimum bid for any Live Auction item, and may remove an item
if it does not receive sufficient bids. The winner will be the highest bidder upon the fall of the Auctioneer’s gavel, and the Auctioneer will make the final decision on any dispute. 4. All bids using your number are binding offers for which you are financially responsible. 5. All items, however described, are sold “as is.” Some items have black-out dates or other restrictions, which the committee
will not mediate. All sales are final and items may not be exchanged or returned to the Gala or merchants. Some items are nontransferable. 6. Each guest is expected to leave the Gala with all items won, except by prior arrangement with the Gala Committee. Any item not paid for and/or picked up within 7 days of the Gala will be forfeited.
*Visa & MasterCard accepted by bankers from Raiffeisen Bank. Payments will be made in RON at the exchange rate of the day.

BRYAN JARDINE / AUCTIONEER Mr. Bryan Jardine is a California-admitted attorney who has lived and worked in Romania since 1996. He is currently the managing partner of the Bucharest office of the Viennabased law firm Wolf Theiss. Bryan is a member of the Board of Trustees at AISB, and has appeared as a guest auctioneer at a number of charity events over the years, including, the OvidiuRo Halloween Ball, the Friends of the National Museum of Art, the Caledonian Ball, the AISB PTO Auction Gala 2013: Cabaret and 2015: Bucharest, My Little Paris.
CORTEZ / LIVE BAND Cortez has a passion for music! Their backgrounds in jazz, rock, alternative music and theatre blend together for a great sound. They are popular performers at Bucharest’s Music Club and the Hard Rock Café, and at the numerous concerts they perform throughout Romania. MAXIMILIAN MUNTEAN / NEW VEGAS Maximilian Muntean discovered his passion for music when he was a 4 year old child, while watching his father play the piano and while he listened to classical music. He has studied classical piano for almost 12 years and is a graduate of the Bucharest Art School in modern singing. Maximilian has constantly been in a continuous search for means of improving himself as a person and as an artist. Among Maximilian’s achievements are the participation and prizes at several national and international festivals, as well as making it to the semifinals of both The Voice of Romania TV contest and the Eurovision national selections. During his musical years, he has been part of numerous solo jazz / cabaret concerts, as well as many concerts with his colleagues in Merci Band which includes Sebastian Muntean – his brother and current lead singer at Roads Band, and Adina Raducan – recent winner of the X Factor Romania Contest. Maximilian will be performing at his second AISB Auction Gala. Regardless of the formula, Maximilian has received great reviews for his vocal quality and interpretation, as well as for his passion for music.
PETRU CĂLINESCU / NEW VEGAS Petru Călinescu is a versatile singer/songwriter based in Bucharest, Romania. Petru discovered his passion for music and theater during his time as a student at AISB (Graduating Class of 2005), and then went on to hone his craft at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, patroned by Sir Paul McCartney, which he graduated from in 2011. Petru’s music career so far has already seen a few notable achievements. He composed the official anthem for Europa FM’s 2013 charity campaign “Nu Esti Singur Pe Lume” (featuring a selection of Romania’s best-known singers). Elsewhere, his song “Broken Heart” (performed by his former classmate Maximilian Muntean) reached the 2013 Eurovision National Semifinal stage. As a performer, Petru has twice featured as special guest singer at Loredana’s 2012 and 2013 concerts at Sala Palatului, to great reviews. Petru will be performing at his fourth AISB Gala.
RADU VIȘINESCU / DJ Radu Vișinescu has been a DJ since 1990. With over 500 events under his wing and as a connoisseur of great music, he really knows what a successful event means. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Flowers series, Early Childhood 4 students made their own collection of flowers in oil pastel resist and watercolor wash. Each flower is unique but similar to the others, just like each of the student artists and just like Warhol’s original prints.

A8 GEOMETRIC PRINTS Geometric shapes have always been part of architecture and design in every culture. Grade Four has created a collection of geometric mono-prints with their individual interpretations of important symbols in their lives.

A9 LEAF RELIEF Towards the beginning of the year, Grade Five students studied lines in nature by collecting leaf rubbings. This inspired them to draw textures. In this collection, the Fifth Grade have studied the same leaves, but this time have created real textures using metal foil, which can be touched.

A whole Middle School collaborative piece consisting of more than 180 hearts containing detailed patterns. This piece reflects our love and understanding of each other and our differences. This piece measures approximately 270 cm x 270 cm.
Learning about value in color - First Grade have been creating artwork from tints and shades of blue - like Chinese blue pottery! These mini masterpieces, in all of their glory, are based on those principles. Enjoy it on any wall in your home!
A6 MIXED MEDIA Each Second Grade class studied a different culture and visual art style connected to literature and illustration, during art classes. Each class has created a mini piece of art in the style of each chosen artist. Look carefully to see if you can make out 4 different styles. This will be a glorious addition to any wall space in your home or office.
