Building Our Community’s Next Recreation Facilities
The YELLOWSTONE ICE FOUNDATION is proud to present this development proposal for a new indoor recreation facility in Billings, Montana. Thanks to a generous six million dollar commitment from Signal Peak Energy, our community has the unique opportunity to address a significant shortfall in recreational amenities compared to other cities of similar or smaller size. Despite having a larger population than Bismarck, ND, and Missoula, MT, which boast seven and three ice sheets respectively, Billings has yet to fully capitalize on the growing demand for ice sports. This strategic initiative is designed not only to address this gap but to also enhance Billings’ appeal as a hub for sports tourism and community activities.
Yellowstone Ice Foundation’s goal is to establish a multifunctional indoor ice facility that will serve as a pivotal resource for both enthusiasts and newcomers to ice sports within our community. This facility is designed not only to attract junior amateur and professional teams, but also to significantly enhance existing programs in hockey, curling, and figure skating that are currently limited by space. Furthermore, this development is strategically located to catalyze economic growth and drive transformative improvements in the southside neighborhoods of Billings, ensuring that the benefits of this project extend well beyond the ice arena.
The proposed facility will feature flexible programming with multi-use spaces adaptable to various events and sports. It includes two ice sheets; one operational year-round, and the other convertible during the summer for activities like indoor soccer and more, enhancing its utility and appeal. This is a transformative opportunity to elevate its existing recreational infrastructure, promote health and wellness, and stimulate economic growth through sports tourism.
