BACHELOR OF SCIENCE PROGRAM Upstate’s online RN-to-BS in Nursing degree program is a flexible, upper division program for registered nurses with associate degrees or diplomas in nursing.

Courses build on the foundation of AAS education to achieve the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education, focused on theory and application, and serve as a foundation for graduate study.

Most full-time students complete degree requirements in just 22 months. Part-time students complete the degree in 34 to 46 months.

DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE PROGRAMS (DNP) BS-DNP PROGRAM Upstate Medical University College of Nursing’s BS-DNP program provides an opportunity for RNs who have a bachelor’s degree in Nursing to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

master's degree to provide students with the experiences of being a leader in healthcare and applying evidence-based practice in the clinical arena.

The program prepares graduates to provide primary care as advanced practice registered nurses in one of three tracks: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

• Along with these enhancements in leadership and evidence-based practice, students will be trained in various specialties (family, psychiatric and pediatric tracks) in the clinical setting to become nurse practitioners.

POST-MASTER’S DNP PROGRAM The part-time Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Nursing is for family, psychiatric and pediatric nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists (CNS) who are looking to deliver optimal patient care, be an instrument of change and innovation and become an expert in their field.

The DNP degree prepares nurse experts for the highest level of advanced practice, expanding the APRN role in leadership, health policy and advocacy, interprofessional practice and information technology. The expanded clinical role provides the DNP skills to translate and generate evidence-based knowledge into clinical practice that promotes safe, effective and equitable patient care.

This program is available with spring or summer start.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • NP License (Family, Family Psychiatric Mental Health, Pediatrics or Adult/Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist [CNS]) • Proof of current national board certification in your specialty • Active, unencumbered RN License from New York state • Curriculum Vitae • One year of practice as an advanced practice nurse is recommended • Minimum nursing and overall GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale • Three letters of recommendation. POST-MASTER’S ADVANCED CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The Nurse Practitioner Post-Master’s Program is open to registered nurses with clinical master’s degrees who wish to become nurse practitioners and to certified nurse practitioners with master’s degrees who wish to become certified in an additional specialty area.

Graduates of this advanced certificate program are skilled in assessment, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic health problems, and are prepared to deliver primary care services in a variety of health settings to the patient population of their choosing: family, family psychiatric mental health or pediatric.

The program typically begins in the fall and takes four semesters. NPs seeking certification in an additional specialty area, who have taken a pathophysiology course that is acceptable for transfer, may be eligible to begin the program in the spring. Nurse practitioners seeking certification in a second specialty area, who have appropriate academic and clinical experience, may qualify to complete the program in three semesters. The Post-Master’s

Program is a hybrid program including online and face-toface classes. Classes are either fully online through Blackboard or meet one evening per week if classroom based.

Graduates of the College of Nursing Post-Master's program are eligible to take national board certification examinations, and may apply for New York State nurse practitioner licensure.
