There are no prerequisite courses OR GRE exam required to apply. If accepted, a bachelor’s degree prior to matriculation is required. Applying is a two-step process: 1) Complete the application through the Central Application for Public Health (SOPHAS), which opens September 1st 2) submit the secondary application through SUNY Upstate free of charge.

MD/MPH Students need to have completed all of the requirements for admission for the College of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University, including the MCAT exam. Prospective applicants will submit their AMCAS application indicating the combined MD/MPH degree option and follow the regular AMCAS application process while submitting some additional requirements for the MD/MPH program including additional essays and letters of recommendation.

MPH & CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED STUDY IN PUBLIC HEALTH MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH

MPH CONCENTRATIONS

This degree requires a minimum of 42 credit hours and accommodates both full and part-time students. While most full-time students complete the degree in 24 months, students have up to five years to complete the degree. As an interdisciplinary degree, the MPH offers our students flexibility in regards to their interest and career aspirations.

DATA AND ANALYTICS The Data and Analytics concentration equips students to manage public health problems by acquiring skills to reduce disease and disability at the community level. The concentration is appropriate for those who are entering the field, currently employed in public health, allied health or administration fields as well as for clinicians. Students will gain extensive knowledge of analytical software, and qualitative and quantitative research methods to support and guide public health programs and healthcare.

The diversity and complexity of today’s public health concerns require professionals to have a broad base of knowledge, skills and experiences. In addition to the foundational and concentration-specific courses, students may choose from a menu of elective courses within respective concentrations.

NEW! GLOBAL HEALTH AND TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE

CERTIFICATE OF ADVANCED STUDY IN PUBLIC HEALTH This five-course, 15-credit hour program of study is organized to offer a foundational curriculum centered on public health competencies. The abbreviated training allows interested students who are interested in augmenting on-the-job training or supplementing an advanced degree with foundational public health principles and practices.

PART OF PROTECTING AND IMPROVING THE

The Global Health and Translational Science concentration focuses on understanding and developing solutions to global health problems. The concentration is intended for students and clinicians interested in a career focused on research, global health field work, and clinical product development. Students will graduate with core public health skills and a keen understanding of how interventions are advanced from the laboratory to global communities.

PUBLIC HEALTH, THE ARRAY OF FACTORS AND

Together with the MD Program, the Upstate Public Health Program offers a dual degree program for students interested in pursuing both the MD and MPH degree. Earning the MD/MPH typically takes five years.

POPULATION HEALTH FOR CLINICIANS This concentration is appropriate for students pursuing clinical education here at Upstate or who have prior medical training. Students enrolled in the MD/MPH program will be automatically enrolled in the Population Health for Clinicians Concentration.
