Looking Ahead

“Once again with this community’s partnership, students are known, supported, and taught to impact and bring about change by our extraordinary faculty and staff. Thank you for supporting the growth of our programs, which create dynamic student experiences and strong foundations for the future.”
Ronnie Codrington-Cazeau, HEAD OF SCHOOL

Back-of-the-envelope math is not how we do things at UPrep. Our faculty and staff build budgets intentionally and thoughtfully. This year included lots of predicted opportunities, like our second student-run Model UN conference, field trips for intensives, and Global Link trips to Finland, Taiwan, and France. But we were also presented with some unexpected requests for financial assistance due to job losses, the chance to take students to the pit rehearsal for Wicked, admission off the waiting list for the robotics Last Chance High Stakes Tournament, and the need for a fifth Middle School girls volleyball team. Because of your support of the Puma Fund, UPrep said yes to these opportunities.
As I look ahead, it’s hard not to consider the role artificial intelligence (AI) will play in the daily lives of our students. Although this is still uncertain, I do know that the unique value of a UPrep education cannot be replicated by AI. Our students cultivate human skills like compassion, curiosity, and confidence throughout their time here. There are no shortcuts to developing key interpersonal skills, like holding meaningful conversations, asking thoughtful questions, comprehending what you read, and the ability to confidently meet new people out in the world.
Thank you for choosing UPrep for your family and thank you for supporting our school community. Your impact is wide, and our gratitude is deep. We can’t wait to see what our students go on to accomplish as alumni. In the words of former Science Department Chair Mikayla Patella-Buckley, “The impact of a UPrep education doesn’t stop when students graduate UPrep—it’s just the beginning.”
Looking ahead,
Liz Van Hoy DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

“We have so much to celebrate at UPrep. With the generous support from families and partners, the learning environment here continues shaping confident, authentic leaders who are ready to thrive in a complex world.”
Ninevah Lowery, 2024–2025
PRESIDENT OF THE UPREP BOARD OF TRUSTEES, PARENT OF BRYANT ’24 AND NEVA-NATAIA ’26

ON THE COVER:
A new sun telescope honors the generosity and impact of alum Liese van Zee ’87, who had an illustrious career in astronomy and left a transformative bequest to UPrep in 2024. The Science Department awarded graduating students Rian F. and Sophia S. (pictured, left to right) an award in Liese’s name because of their demonstrated qualities modeled by Liese over their time at UPrep: collaborative, creative, hardworking, and joyful with a passion for science and mentoring others.

This fund also supplements financial aid packages, helping to make UPrep accessible. This year’s Puma Fund goal was $1.2 million, and our total raised was $1,408,465!

Your Support Powers Endowed Financial Aid

UPrep Together, our annual community celebration and fundraiser, brought parents, guardians, alumni, faculty, and staff out in ’70s style as a nod to our founding in 1976 and raised $804,003 for our Endowed Financial Aid Fund.
• Financial aid is one of the most powerful ways we ensure that our community stays rich in diversity, talent, and potential.
• Our Endowed Financial Aid Fund allows us to rely on steady, ongoing income to continue offering holistic financial aid to deserving families year after year.
• The more students we can offer a UPrep education to, the more our values go beyond the walls of UPrep.

“In five years, I see myself obtaining my master’s degree in machine learning and using that to explore how artificial intelligence can continue to improve day-to-day life.”
Yedidia A. ‘25, featured in the UPrep Together video

• Alumni also serve on the UPrep Board of Trustees and the Alumni Board.

Endowment
The UPrep endowment allows UPrep to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our students while maintaining a reliable, ongoing stream of income. Our endowment is made up of 28 separate funds and, as of June 30, 2025, the combined balance was $23,939,958. Together, these endowed funds provided $565,690 last year, most of which directly supported financial aid. We raised $1,221,616 for our endowment during 2024–2025. UPrep’s endowment is invested for long-term growth and creates a legacy of support for teaching and learning at UPrep forever. Thank you to everyone in our community who plays a part in this sustaining effort. We invite you to learn more about our endowment and its funds by visiting www.universityprep.org/endowment.
UPrep gratefully acknowledges the support of families, trustees, alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends who contributed to our school in 2024–2025.
