GREETINGS, UPREP COMMUNITY In my first year at UPrep, it’s become clear to me that Pumas are always trying new things, learning from past experiences, and open to different perspectives and ideas. Newly retired UPrep fine arts teacher Paul Fleming put it perfectly as he reflected after the final Mamma Mia! performance last fall: “We aren’t teaching students how to act; we are teaching them how to be human.”

This atmosphere of learning is as apparent in the Commons at lunchtime as it is in the Pumadome during pep rallies and athletic games. And this year, our community helped UPrep grow to new heights, literally: The three-story ULab will open this fall, allowing us to expand our enrollment. During the 2022–2023 school year, a successful Puma Fund allowed us to add new intensive classes, purchase updated uniforms, offer Global Link trips to Taiwan and Colombia in spring 2023, and provide free and accessible standardized testing prep to every student in the junior class.

Throughout this year, we connected with our growing number of alumni at regional get-togethers and on-campus reunions. I love hearing our alums speak about how UPrep faculty have helped them arrive where they are now: in meaningful careers, at renowned colleges and universities, and holding leadership positions. Our alumni credit their success to the encouragement, experiences, and connections they made while students at UPrep.

When I ask what makes UPrep special, people usually comment on the extraordinary relationships that students have with teachers, the challenging academic program, and the well-rounded students. I would add the generosity of the community: Investments of time, resources, and energy are what help build and sustain this learning environment. You have a lot of choices when it comes to how and where you invest your resources.

BY PHILANTHROPY Every year, we invite the entire UPrep community to participate in the Puma Fund, our annual fundraising effort that supports all co-curricular activities for students. Did you know this fund also supplements financial aid packages, helping to make UPrep accessible? We increased our goal to $1 million this year and were delighted to see the community rise to the challenge, raising $1,175,536!

NEW COURSES LIKE CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY AND SNOW SCHOOL

EXPANDING ACCESS TO UPREP THROUGH FINANCIAL AID UPrep Together, our annual spring community celebration and fundraiser, took place at Fremont Studios on Friday, March 31. Nearly 250 community members enjoyed a night out and were entertained by 38 talented student performers. Most significantly, $748,438 was raised in support of UPrep’s Endowed Financial Aid Fund! www.universityprep.org

A BOLD COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS The ULab Capital Campaign is about more than just a building. Yes, the ULab will extend our physical campus with modern and flexible learning spaces and allow us to grow our student body.

Beyond physical space, the ULab will facilitate opportunities for the co-curricular engagements that are integral to a UPrep education.

The ULab is about growth, expanding excellence, and launching students into the future.

The ULab will be where students experiment, explore, and expand their worldview. It will be a gathering space and a hub for Upper School students as they prepare for life beyond UPrep.

This is an opportunity to grow UPrep’s impact. Thank you for joining us during this phase of expansion and growth. We are deeply grateful to the 130 households who have already donated to the $25 million campaign. As of June 30, 2023, we have raised $18.4 million and are relying on our community to invest the remaining $6.6 million to achieve our fundraising goal by June 30, 2024.

Endowment The UPrep endowment allows UPrep to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our students while maintaining a reliable, ongoing stream of income. Our endowment is made up of 26 separate funds and, as of June 30, 2023, the combined balance was $14,837,148.
