GREETINGS, UPREP COMMUNITY One thing that makes UPrep special is the size of our community. By choice, we are one of the smaller independent schools in Seattle. Our size, even when it reaches a capacity of about 730 students in a few years, ensures each student is heard and seen here. Our Founders wanted this school to be a place for student voices and advocacy, and I am delighted to continue that legacy.

Academic excellence also defines UPrep. Our faculty care deeply about what and how they teach and how this knowledge will help our students become socially responsible global citizens. During 2021–2022, our teachers met learning gaps caused by the pandemic, created new curricula, met with students, and attended evening events. Every day, they encouraged and supported students. I am so proud of their positive energy.

It was thrilling to build connections at in-person events again. I was introduced to engaging UPrep traditions, such as Fun Day and Culture Night. Our dedicated Parent Guardian Association hosted lunches for faculty and staff to say thank you.

The energy of student and parent fans in the Pumadome revitalized me! Field trips during intensives became the norm once again. Our Middle School students traveled to Alabama for Global Link American South, and graduation returned to McCaw Hall. And what a feeling it was to watch our fully robed faculty, staff, and students march down the aisle with smiles on their faces and heads held high!

During 2022–2023, I will begin traveling with our Development Engagement and Alumni Manager Claire Fallat and our Annual Giving Manager Catherine McNutt to meet with our alums locally and across the country. We also look forward to connecting at alumni events.

Our connections will grow stronger as the three-story ULab rises across the street from our main campus. I invite you to drive by to see the site or to watch the construction progress at universityprep.org/ulab.

This year, campus buzzed with in-person learning and community-building events, starting with grade-level celebrations in the fall. That air of connection inspired families to support our fundraising efforts in unprecedented ways.

Our parents and guardians, grandparents, faculty, staff, and alumni came together to raise $1,245,183 for the Puma Fund—crossing the $1 million threshold for the first time in the school’s history. With a parent/ guardian participation rate of 87 percent, our families showed how grateful they were to be able to connect with the UPrep community.

A BOLD COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE In March, with 76 people gathered in person and more watching via livestream, we broke ground at the site of the ULab, marking the next chapter in bringing the ULab from vision to reality. Since groundbreaking, we have enjoyed watching construction progress for our 39,000-square-foot, three story building that will serve as an entrepreneurial learning laboratory and allow our Upper School enrollment to grow by nearly 30 percent.

Endowment The UPrep endowment allows UPrep to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our students while maintaining a reliable, ongoing stream of income. Our endowment is made up of 26 separate funds and, as of June 30, 2022, the combined balance was $13,245,272.
