Colouring In

Women’s Group T h e Wo m e n ’s G r o u p i s a u n i q u e opportunity to socialise with other ladies, all ages welcome.

The ladies meets at the Upper Ross Community Centre every second Friday (school terms), and participates in a range of activities, including self defence sessions, cooking classes, parenting education and craft.

Free child minding is provided; we simply ask that you book the day prior so that we can be organised and have the day planned.

The Spring came suddenly, bursting upon the work as a child burst into a room, with laugh and a shout and hands full of flowers.

UPPER ROSS KIDS CLUB Bring the kids along every Thursday from 3pm-4pm (during school term).

This group provides an opportunity for children to blow off some steam after school. Children participate in a craft activity or science based activity as well as having some afternoon tea.

Both activities and afternoon tea are free.

We have 2 wonderful volunteers that run this group, Terri and Nina, and the really children enjoy coming along. Come one week or every week, come give it a try.

This program is designed for children aged 5-12, but everyone is welcome and we encourage parents/carers to come along and stay for the hour.

300 Townsville Households Survey First 1000 Days Australia

What could I be part of?

A growing movement led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, First 1000 Days Australia, focuses on the thousand days from (pre) conception until the child’s 2nd birthday, to support parents give babies the best start in life.

An important part of knowing how we can support our communities during the first 1000 days is to hear directly from our community.

During September & October, anyone over 14yrs can do a survey. We are looking to hear from 300 households. Information sessions will be held at various locations across Townsville.

WHY A FOCUS ON THE FIRST 1000 DAYS?

These 1000 days are important for first time parents, children and all family members. Early years can shape the health and wellbeing of a child across their whole life. Because we want to give our children the best start, we also work with young men and women during the time before children are conceived, usually in their teens. We want our parents to feel loved and supported to help their children reach their full potential.

Parents are more confident and more able to ask for support when they know how to be happy and healthy despite life’s challenges; when they have solid support from family and friends and have achieved a few life goals.

Our playgroup caters for children aged 0-5, with age appropriate toys and activities.

We also provide a healthy and yummy morning tea, we share recipes and parenting ideas, and most of all we have a great time.

With population growth in this area, there is a need to expand local Police numbers which has been evidenced by the successful 12 month QPS trial to have 10 Officers work in the area out of the Kelso Police Beat.

Dear Resident As we push further towards the end of year, we also get closer to completion of the Riverway Drive Duplication. I am sure most of you are keen to see this finalised and to have a clear run through without any unnecessary delays. Although the newly installed traffic lights at the Santal Drive Intersection have been a bane of contention for some, I understand this is a major relief to those entering or leaving Santal Drive and the Loam Island Community Centre. I appreciate the patience and courtesy given to the workers on this project as they deliver this much needed infrastructure.

The current facilities are old (Kelso Beat is a demountable built in 1991) and there is a need to deliver a new Police Facility which will improve the coverage of the Upper Ross corridor for our local Police. I need your help to convince the Minister for Police to commit the funds for this new Police Facility, to ensure it goes ahead in the Upper Ross, by signing the petition that is located at various organisations in Kelso and Rasmussen or you could sign the online version at http://bit.ly/UpperRossPolice

I am currently on the drive to get the funding to deliver a new Police Facility in the Upper Ross. For over 25 years the Upper Ross area has been serviced by 2 Single-Officer Police Beats in both Kelso and Rasmussen.

Domino’s Kelso Franchisee - Sandeep (Sandy) Depa My career path started with being a Domino's pizza delivery driver in 2014, initially at the Aitkenvale store.

I also worked 2-3 jobs on Palmer Street before doing door-to-door sales for Foxtel. Because I am always striving for more and looking for ways to self-improve, taking up the role of manager at the Hermit Park and Aitkenvale Domino's stores was beneficial for me.

Having this role has helped improve my communication skills significantly. Including Hermit Park and Aitkenvale, I have also been the manager of the Domino's in Kirwan and North Ward.

Due to possessing the role of manager, I was invited to attend a franchise rally in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, which consisted of 9000 attendees (enough to fill a stadium) that were mostly made up of managers and CEOs of different franchise stores from across Sandeep (Sandy) Depa the world. I'm a franchisee partner now and will be taking full ownership of the shop in January 2019. The Kelso store hires mostly local residents and a large percentage of the business it receives, 80%, is from the 5-8pm slot each day, when most of our staff are working. Since opening, Domino's in Kelso has received 5 Star Awards, which for Domino's, is quite prestigious. It has received this even with random drop-in orders.

Initially, the Kelso store was supposed to be set up in Rasmussen, however it was opened a year and a half before schedule in 2017 in its current location. The store also had the honour of being visited by the CEO, Don Meij, who also started as a pizza delivery driver before becoming a general manager at Domino's and then eventually CEO. One of the features we have in store is a Future Orders Screen, which enables staff to start on orders before they're even finished being made, which means that they can be delivered within 3 minutes of it being completed. For our staff, we like giving them extra incentives by creating in-store competitions. One such competition is attempting to make and complete every order received during peak hours in under one minute. Domino's Kelso is currently hiring, with flexible hours available. It's a good stepping stone into a career for youth who entering the workforce.

The three words I would use to describe myself are fantabulous, crazy, and energetic and I have a Master's degree in Business Administration. My favourite food is chocolate, so it's not surprising that I am a fan of Max Brenner. I think it's good to take a moment to reflect and I encourage the swapping of stories. And I always like to take away something good from a given situation.

The best time for new beginnings is now.
