GARBUTT COMMUNITY CENTRE COMMUNITY GRO UPPER ROSS COMMUNITY CENTRE COMMUNITY VISITORS SCHEME TOWNSVILLE Recruiting Volunteers NOW The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a national program funded by the Australian Government. The CVS aims to enrich the quality of life of residents of aged care homes who are socially isolated or lonely, and would benefit from a friendly visitor. Due to the social distancing measures for COVID-19 our volunteers are unable to visit their residents at this time however we know that when the social distancing measures are lifted there will be many residents of aged care facilities that will be in need of social interaction and would benefit from having a CVS volunteer visit. During this period we are working hard to build up our wonderful team of volunteers so that we will be ready to recommence the visits when the social restrictions are lifted. If you can spare an hour each fortnight and would like to visit an elderly resident of a local aged care home in Townsville please call our Upper Ross Centre on 4774 0144. or Garbutt Centre on 4779 7268.

FREE LEGAL ADVICE SERVICE Our free legal advice clinic is available for both face-to-face and telephone appointments. Tuesdays 4:00pm - 4.30pm

GARBUTT COMMUNITY CENTRE GARBUTT COMMUNITY CENTRE UPPER ROSS COMMUNITY CENTRE Playgro During the past few weeks the Playgro children have been learning how to recognise and write their names by tracing over dotted lines and learning how to use the pencils with the correct grip to form the lettering. During the school holidays the Playgro participants brought their siblings along to show the older sibling where they play and what fun activities they do and what yummy healthy morning tea’s they get to eat when coming to Playgro. We had Taylor from Little voices hold a session for the children and parents who enjoyed by engaging with singing and dancing with their children through nursery rhymes, counting and colouring songs.

The second week, the children enjoyed a fun filled morning at chipmunks. Each child learnt new skills such as balancing, fine motor skills and navigation. All the children enjoyed themselves very much. Our youngest participant Peppy turned 1yrs old which we celebrated with some cute cupcakes.

Dear residents of the Upper Ross. As we approach Xmas, the month of December is incredibly important as we look to open our borders on December 17th. This aims to re-unite families who have been apart for the best part of 2 years due to the global pandemic COVID-19 and the delta variant which has devasted families around the world and in NSW and Victoria. As Chair of the Queensland Parliament Health and Environment Committee and having worked closely with the former Chief Health Officer, now Governor of Queensland, Dr Jeannette Young has provided sound advice to our Premier and Government that has kept Queenslanders safe. Now the priority is to make sure as many of the population are vaccinated before the 17 th December. Vaccination is our best defence against COVID-19. It has proven to save lives as many sadly who have died because of COVID were unvaccinated. It is clear that the benefit of vaccination far outweighs the risk of contracting COVID-19. As the local Member, I don’t want to see anyone get sick in our own community because they are not vaccinated. We have so many opportunities to protect ourselves and our family by being vaccinated. We can get our jabs for free at community pharmacies, pop up clinics like we have had at local schools, and PCYC, the COVID hub and of course your own GP. So please get vaccinated. Have a safe and happy christmas and I look forward to delivering even more in 2022! Aaron Harper MP
