What is the HIPPY Program? Hi from Wendy

Home Interaction Program for Parents & Youngsters

What is HIPPY? HIPPY is a free two-year home-based early childhood enrichment program. HIPPY builds the confidence and skills of parents and carers to create a positive learning environment to prepare their child for school. HIPPY is delivered through a mix of home visits and parent groups. HIPPY Upper Ross is open to families who live in Condon, Rassmussen and Kelso. How old does my child need to be to start HIPPY? Children join HIPPY in the year before they start formal schooling (child must turn 4 by 30th June 2014).

How will HIPPY help me and my child? HIPPY helps parents/carers learn many things including: µ how to be more involved in their child's learning µ understanding more about child development and the way children learn µ encouraging a love of learning in children.

HIPPY helps children by: µ µ µ

preparing them for a confident start to school building their self-esteem and confidence in learning providing opportunities to enjoy time with their parents.

Bits ‘n Pieces is a Department of Communities supported initiative.

JOKE TIME

Have a wonderful Day Mum’s!

Every school has a dedicated group of volunteers who direct their time and efforts to raise money for extra resources, infrastructure and events. Whether they are looking to purchase sporting equipment, erect shade sails or fund a music trip, the work of school P & C and P & F committees is at the heart of the school community. You don’t have to be a parent to get involved. These committees welcome your support in whatever way you can assist. Perhaps you can help in the tuckshop. Maybe you can donate goods or services. Or you can simply buy a raffle ticket to support the schools in your community. You may notice a trend among schools in the Upper Ross and other parts of Thuringowa of offering barbeques as prises in their fundraising efforts this year. No, it’s not a case of everyone having the same great idea. I was looking for a practical way to support the great work of our local P & C and P & F committees and decided to donate a barbeque to each public and private school in my electorate to be used as a prize in their fundraising. Everyone likes t own a barbeque, whether you use it most nights for cooking, take it camping or keep it for emergencies. With the help of Barbeques Galore, schools from Kelso to the Northern Beaches have each received a Weber Baby Q. Schools will decide when and how to fundraise with their barbeques and also which projects to fund. Be on the lookout for your chance to win one with your local school
