WORKER PROFILE: Jan Rolfe - Reception Jan is the cheerful face that you will find behind the front counter at the Community Centre on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Jan has worked at the Upper Ross Community Centre for over 30 years and says she not yet ready for retirement. Jan said she tried to retire a few years ago but only lasted a year before coming back to work at the community centre as she missed all the wonderful people who regularly visit the centre. She enjoys chatting with the ladies who come to the craft and time out groups each week, some of which have been coming to the centre almost as long as Jan has worked her. This week saw Jan celebrate her 70th birthday. Drop in and wish Jan happy birthday.

Markets a monster community maker The Upper Ross community Monster Market was held on Saturday 16th May, attracting an estimated 4,000 people on the day. It not only provided a much needed economic injection, but a huge community building platform for residents. It is estimated more than $70,000 has been injected into the Upper Ross community thanks to this event. Riverway Rotary secured corporate sponsors, media partners and over 120 market stalls to deliver one of the most successful events the UpperRross community has seen. The members of Riverway Rotary worked tirelessly for four weeks to create an event that the community would remember and were extremely happy with the success of the event. The Upper Ross is a strong community but one that is often forgotten when it comes to delivering community enhancing projects. Riverway Rotary will definitely be looking to make this event a staple on the local events calendar.

Acknowledgement of sponsors & supporters: Riverway Rotary would like to give a very big thank you to the sponsors and supporters who helped make the Monster Market event a great family and community event. Wingate Properties, Benchmark Events, Totalfab Engineering Services, The Wishing Tree, NQ Community Service Inc, Northreach Baptise Church, Simonsen Plumbing, Vision Construction, Global Welding, McDonalds Rusmussen, Southern Cross Austereo, 4TO, Kech Concrete, Jim Griggs, Barra Fishing Park, Townsville City Council, and the fantastic musicians and performers who entertained at the Monster Markets

Get involved and active in the Upper Ross Community Riverway Rotary is a Satellite Club of Townsville Daybreak. The club has recruited eight members since establishment less than six months ago. 20 members are required in order to enable Riverway Rotary to form its own charter and they are eager to hear from anyone interested in joining the conversation. You can contact Riverway Rotary trough their facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/upperrosscommunitymarkets . or contact Chair Elect – Dianne Sainty on 0458140204

HIPPY UPDATE This week saw us bid a very sad farewell to Peddie, our HIPPY co-ordinator. Peddie and her husband are returning to Elcho Island, in Arafura Sea, where they lived since 2010. Peddie’s vibrant personality, enthusiasm and energy inspired all of us here at the community centre and she will be dearly missed by both the centre staff and all the HIPPY familes. On a lighter note.... We welcome Sarah Patching to the centre as the new HIPPY co-ordinator. Sarah comes from a teaching background and is keen to continue all the great work Peddie has done this year. Sarah has been busy learning all about the HIPPY program and meeting all the HIPPY families.

Fun times for our HIPPY families
