UPPER ROSS COMMUNITY CENTRE 2022 NAIDOC Theme: Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! Now is our time. We cannot afford to lose momentum for change. We all must continue to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! for systemic change and keep rallying around our mob, our Elders, our communities. Whether it’s seeking proper environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism—we must do it together.

It must be a genuine commitment by all of us to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! and support and secure institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative reforms. It’s also time to celebrate the many who have driven and led change in our communities over generations—they have been the heroes and champions of change, of equal rights and even basic human rights.

Getting Up, Standing Up, and Showing Up can take many forms. We need to move beyond just acknowledgement, good intentions, empty words and promises, and hollow commitments.

Enough is enough. The relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and

non‑Indigenous Australians needs to be based on justice, equity , and the proper recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights.

Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! with us to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent, and outcome.

Community Gro had the pleasure in being the 2022 Townsville NAIDOC Event auspice body. @ of thetheGarbutt Community Centre This meant submitting funding grant applications on behalf Townsville NAIDOC committee and ensuring all financial duties were carried out. This Tuesday was an awesome morningsexperience for us, it enabled us as an organisation to Get UP! Stand Up! and Show Up!

The 2022 Townsville NAIDOC events were a huge success with 5000+ people attending the events. The Official Flag Raising ceremony was held at Jazzine Barracks; The Corporate Breakfast at The Ville was a sell out and if you didn’t March or attend the Deadly Day Out, you must show up next year.

A very BIG THANK YOU to the 2022 Townsville NAIDOC committee for all their tireless and voluntary work to put these events together for our community.

Dear residents of the Upper Ross.

We have just recently handed down the State Budget and I am pleased to share with you that $185M is going into Thuringowa on a range of projects I have been lobbying for such as the Kirwan Health Precinct redevelopment of which will cost $40M. A large portion of the budget has gone to Health with $1.2B allocated to our Townsville University Hospital with an additional $530M to bring in 143 more beds, more nurses and doctors and allied health staff. We need to continue to expand capacity of our Health Service to meet demand and keep up with our ageing and growing population.

In the Upper Ross, I am pleased to see more funding to local Schools (Kelso, Rasmussen and Thuringowa High) who will see refurbished school blocks and the construction start on the Thuringowa High Hall.

Road constructions continue with funding from State to the Allambie Lane upgrade along with Townsville City Council. Up at the Ross Dam you will see the construction site and hardstand to replace the water pipeline under Riverway Drive which I very much welcome as we will then move to stage 2 of the Duplication of Riverway Drive.

I have a full newsletter being mailed out to the electorate which will provide more detail on the Budget for Thuringowa.
