As the State Member for Thuringowa, I would like to welcome all to 2023. This year we will see completion of the $250M Ring Road and progress on other major infrastructure projects like the completion of the new $60M water pipeline from the Ross Dam to the Douglas Water Treatment plant ensuring our city has water security for the next 50 years.
That project will enable the $95M Riverway Drive stage 2 duplication to begin and this is an important job generating road project which will be welcomed by 25,000 daily drivers in the Upper Ross area.
After completion of Riverway Drive Stage 1 we have seen over $50M invested into our area by the private and corporate sector, which I welcome as these also provide local jobs for residents in the Upper Ross. I eagerly await the approval of stage 2 of the Riverway Plaza shopping center which will offer even more to locals.
2023 will also see more progress in the residential sector on both sides of Beck Drive, with those (2) developments bringing many more families into the area, and again supporting more local jobs through the construction of hundreds of new homes.
The $10M Thuringowa High Hall will also begin construction this year and over the Xmas break we saw upgrades of school buildings in both Kelso and Rasmussen primary schools. Kirwan primary will start construction its new admin building Heatley High will begin construction of the new catering hall.
There is even more to be done in Kirwan as we will see the new $40M new 2 story Kirwan Health Precinct delivering a new health facility for our area, and we will also see the new $30M Kirwan Police & Emergency services Facility begin construction at the old 1300 Smiles Stadium site.
We will also see new Public Housing constructed and delivered in the local area to help address the ongoing challenges of affordable housing in our community.
February 2023 will also see more new laws introduced, which I have pushed hard for, to the parliament to curb the issue of youth crime and ensure there are strong consequences for the actions of those causing our community so much harm which simply should not be tolerated and needs to stop.
I want 2023 to be a year of optimism in Thuringowa, I have over $200M of funding of new projects to deliver and I see many other opportunities before us, all can be achieved by working together.
As your State MP, I will continue to be your strong voice in parliament to deliver even more for our community of Thuringowa.
