COMMUNITY INFORMATION COMUNITY UPPER ROSSINFO... COMMUNITY CENTRE Buying a Car? Some useful info to help you on the right track… •
Avoid being ripped off—Check Rebook value to make sure you are not paying too much for the car. www.redbook.com.au • Check to make sure the vehicle hasn’t been reported stolen, written off and repaired or money is owed on the vehicle. A quick vehicle search on the PPRS (Personal Property Securities Register) costs $2.00 and could save you a lot of heartache. ppsr.gov.au • Sight the sellers drivers licence (check the photo matches the person you are dealing with and the name and address on the rego papers ). IMPORTANT - Registration papers do not prove vehicle ownership. As the seller for proof of ownership such as their receipt for purchasing the vehicle. The PPSR check will show if money is owed against the vehicle. Seek legal /financial advice before purchasing a vehicle where money is owed. • Taking out a loan to buy a car... make sure you have all the facts & figures and have read the loan contract before signing on the dotted line. For more info visit: https://moneysmart.gov.au/loans/car-loans Consider your insurance options. CTP Insurance (a component of vehicle registration) provides cover for injury or death in an accident - this does not provide cover for damage to your vehicle or damage your vehicle may cause to someone else’s property. Do your homework & shop around. Get quotes from multiple insurers, there can be $$$ of difference between insurance providers. Many companies offer discounts of $50-$100 for applying online. Agree Value vs Market Value - what’s the difference? Agree Value covers your vehicle for value agreed upon when taking out the insurance. In the event of a total loss (write-off) the insurer will pay you the agreed amount. With Market Value the insurer pays you the current market value, taking into account the condition of the vehicle, no. of km’s etc. This may be less than what you may have expected to receive. Types of car Insurance: Damage to your car
Type
Damage to other people’s property
Damage or loss caused by fire or theft or your car
Injury or death to people to people in an accident
CTP (Compulsory 3rd Party) Third Party property Third Party property, fire and theft Comprehensive

COMMUNITY VISITORS SCHEME TOWNSVILLE - Recruiting Volunteers NOW The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a national program funded by the Australian Government. The CVS aims to enrich the quality of life of residents of aged care homes who are socially isolated or lonely, and would benefit from a friendly visitor. Due to the social distancing measures for COVID-19 our volunteers are unable to visit their residents at this time however we know that when the social distancing measures are lifted there will be many residents of aged care facilities that will be in need of social interaction and would benefit from having a CVS volunteer visit. During this period we are working hard to build up our wonderful team of volunteers so that we will be ready to recommence the visits when the social restrictions are lifted. If you can spare an hour each fortnight and would like to visit an elderly resident of a local aged care home in Townsville please call our Upper Ross Centre on 4774 0144. or Garbutt Centre on 4779 7268.

2020 community Christmas party @ the Garbutt Community Centre
PlayGro @ GCC re-starts on Wednesday, 3rd February!!!
GARBUTT COMMUNITY CENTRE UPPER ROSS COMMUNITY CENTRE TIDDAS YARNING CIRCLE RESTARTS AT GCC ON FRIDAY, 12TH FEBRUARY 2021 TIDDAS Yarning Circle is a wonderful women’s support group held at our Garbutt Community Centre. The program was developed as a safe place for First Nation women to be supported and empowered and is facilitated by Josephine Smallwood and Florence Onus. The TIDDAS have gone from strength to strength and in 2020 they worked with QFCC (Queensland Family and Child Commission) to develop their very own Yarn Up Cards which we launched during NAIDOC Week last November (see above picture - it was a lovely day). We would love to take the opportunity to invite more women to be part of our TIDDAS Yarning Circle in 2021 - come along, have a yarn and be part of something truly inspirational!
