FAFSA Fast Facts

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—also called the FAFSA form—is the application for federal student aid. Prospective and current students complete the form each year to determine their eligibility for federal grants, work-study funds and loans.

Many states and colleges, as well as some private aid providers, use a student’s FAFSA information to assess their eligibility for state and school aid as well.

The FAFSA is a big deal, but filling it out doesn’t have to be. Here’s what you need to do:

• Before October 1: Visit upike.edu/fafsa for a list of information required to apply for federal aid.

• On or After October 1: Complete the FAFSA application at studentaid.gov. We recommend completing the form as early as possible, as some aid is first-come, first-served. UPIKE’s code is 001980.

To put it simply: FAFSA is your gateway to financial aid. Completing the form is the first essential step on your college affordability journey.
