In2018,whenIfirstheardabouttheUPDelta Lambda Sigma Sorority (DLS), I was left in awe upon learning its history, its alumnae, anditsresidentsisters.Rightthenandthere,I knew that I wanted to be part of an institution that exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and most of all, sisterhood. Four years later, I was given an opportunity by the sisters to serve as the GrandArchonofUPDLS.
For all the achievements of UP DLS this year, I would like everyone to remember that it was the resident sisters’ initiative and participation, as well as the alumni sisters’ support and encouragement, that served as thedrivingforceofoursuccess. We,Deltans, collectively navigated the new normal with brilliance, courage, andgrace.
This year alone, UP DLS was able to welcome 21 new sisters who thrive in diversity. We have new sisters who are athletes, mooters, organization leaders, student council representatives, and overall amazing and talented individuals. Aside from their accomplishments, they are women who carry genuine kindness, remarkable passion, andunwaveringdedicationtotheirwork.
For this feat, I thank our Grand Archon Donna Garcia ’15 who served as my Board of Admissions (BOA) Chair, as well as BOA membersKatEstrella’16,AlyCastillo’20,and Max Capili ’21. I also extend my gratitude to Past Grand Archon Pia Lucindo ’17 and Sasa Blanco ’18, my Vice Archon who was then BOA Chair, for facing head-on the challenge of shifting to an online process. If it were not for their bravery and determination, we would not have 21 new sisters who embody theDeltanheart, mind, andspirit.
Much should also be credited to the officers who made sure that internal matters were kept in place. I thank my Keeper of the Rolls, Cha Moreno ’20, for making sure that each sister was accounted for, and that sisters could spend time together at least once a month. I also thank my Custodian of Funds, Sofia Mateo ’20, for handling efficiently all our finances and making sure that each committee received what they needed to perfectly execute their projects. Sofia, the 21s, and the 22s are also responsible for bringing to life this magical Deltan Ball that wecelebratetoday.
Aside from competently organizing internal matters, the officers also made strides externally—making sure that UP DLS remains to be a name that resonates with excellence. I thank my Manager of the Coffers, Bea Caurez ’20, for creating a space for Deltans, residents and alumni alike, to showcase their achievements, aspirations, and pieces of advice through Deltans of Action. I also thank my Inter-FraternitySorority Representative, Lis San Pedro ’21, for establishing ties with organizations, within the UP College of Law and all across the University, that align with our goals as a sorority.
Indeed, our image has not faltered even if it hasbeen77yearssinceourfounding.Ithank the Literary Committee, composed of Reg Dadole’21,NoahEstrada’21,andChaSaño’21, for introducing a fresh and creative branding for the Sorority. In a single year, the committee was able to produce five statements, a little less than fifty congratulatory posts, two online art exhibits, and all the wonderful designs that encapsulate the 77th Deltan Ball. The committee, including the Torch team, did not justdeliver—theydeliveredexcellently.
In supporting academic excellence, I thank my Academics Committee Head for Law, Chinzen Viernes ’18, and Head for Undergraduate Studies, Samantha Cloma ’21, for providing resources to the residents that aided in their academic pursuits. Because of the committee’s hard work on our Bar 2022 Operations, we welcomed 17 new Deltan lawyers. I also thank my Finance Committee, composed of Icah Lagman ’19 and Sheena Cruz ’20, for all the merchandise we have released and distributed that helped in the upkeep of our funds. More importantly, the committee ensured that these merchandise could be a way for us proudly show off our Deltanidentity.
Finally, I thank my Social Programs Committee, composed of Gia Jovellanos ’21, Dianne Bael ’18, and Via Quitevis ’21, for bringing to the ground our ideals as a sorority. I was asked just recently what I am mostproudofformytermasGrandArchon, and I can say that it was this committee’s work that allowed the Sorority to take a stand in the most pressing issues surrounding the country. While my term is over, I am sure that UP DLS will continue to seek justice for the victims of extrajudicial killings under the Duterte Administration, keep a watchful eye on the government under the late dictator’s son, Marcos, Jr., and valiantly support and forward the rights of womenandchildren.
Mygratitudetotheresidentsisterswillnever run out, and the same goes for all the alumni sisters who supported the Sorority throughout the year. I especially thank Past Grand Archon Tim Guanzon ‘07 who served as our Faculty Adviser, Sis Gia Ibay ‘93 who is President of the Alumni Association, and Past Grand Archons Rita Bonifacio ‘87, Trixie Alvarez ‘94, and Annalou Nachura ‘89 whoguidedmeinleadingtheSorority.
ThankyouforremindingmethatevenifIam the Grand Archon, I do not have to do things on my own. Thank you for letting me see for myself that sisterhood does transcend time andborders.
UP DLS began the year by telling everyone that we are Deltans who dare. No truer words have been said. We are women who challenge the status quo, thrive in diversity, flourish even in hard times, and ensure that theworldwouldbeabetterplace, notjustfor us but for everyone in it. We are Deltans precisely because we try and try and try no matter how many roadblocks are placed in front of us. We are Deltans because we dare—that alone speaks volumes on who we are.
In 2018, I entered the sorority with bright eyes and a hopeful heart. Five years later, I step down as the Grand Archon and join the many exceptional alumni sisters with the same bright eyes and hopeful heart. This is because I know that no matter where I go, what I do, and who I am with, I will always be a Deltan. I will always carry with me the values of academic excellence, leadership, and sisterhood. I will always seek the higher things in life, and I am sure that my sisters, old and new, will always do the same thing too.

Determination.Avalueinstilledinevery Deltan by the Rites of the Thousand Flowers.Ourupbringingmadesurethat Deltans are always determined to reach theirgoalsandmakeadifference.
The Delta Lambda Sigma Sorority was founded by women scholars who were determined to make a difference; women who, despite adversities, founded an institution that stood unwaveringly for 77 years, upholding its purpose, goals and tradition of leadershipandservice.
Determination is a value that runs deep in every Deltan. After all, we are DeterminedLightSeekers.
But we are not just that, we are a lot of things.
We are sisters, linked together by the stem of the milflores. We are diverse women, each one strengthened and empowered by the support of her sisters. This combined strength has helpedcountlesssistersbepioneersand leaders in their fields. Our paths may diverge, but our bonds shall endure because we are the Delta Lambda Sigma. Our sisterhood transcends our differences.
Let us honor the virtue of sisterhood and remember: in fostering lasting relationships we should be determined, for we are not only sisters when life flourishes but especially when it challengesus.
We are student leaders. The Sorority believes in the inherent potential for leadership within each Deltan. This coming year, let us bear that in mind as we continue the Deltan brand of leadership forged by the sisters who came before us. Let us continue to produce empowered leaders because ultimately, a win for a woman is a win forallwomen.
Every single Deltan has a vital contribution, for it is only through our collective strength that the institution standsasstrongasitistoday.
In my time in the Sorority, I have witnessed how incredibly determined Deltans are. This determination fueled Deltans to overcome adversities and persevere. Notwithstanding the COVID19 Pandemic, our numbers continued to grow and our commitment to service remained resolute. In the face of uncertainty, we embodied our motto of seekingthehigherthingsinlife.
Today, I stand before you with an unyielding determination to do more. Alongside the Roster of Officers, I will take on the incredible challenge of serving the Sorority as your Grand Archon. Together, we will embrace the responsibilities attached to the privilege ofbeingcalledaDeltan.
Altiora Peto, dear sisters. Let us continuetoseekthehigherthingsinlife.

We witnessed the smooth transition of the sorority to prepandemic life this year under the firm and exemplary leadership of PGAThea.
In spite of the challenges of this shift, the Sorority continued to demonstrate the values of academic excellence, leadership, and sisterhood in and out of the universityaswellasinthenational andinternationalstage.
The Sorority provided an avenue for academic development of the sisters through bar operations, support for law aptitude exam, workshops, and resource subscription. Also, residentsisters embodied Deltan excellence in their participation and awards in moot court, sports, and art competitions.
When it comes to leadership, the Sorority engaged in advocacy workinwomenandhumanrights, and carried on its partnerships with student groups on various socialissues.
Moreover, resident sisters held (and continue to hold) key leadership positions in student governments and other organizations.
Lastly, the ties of sisterhood remain stronger than ever. After almost three years of virtual interaction, the Sorority had its first first to face general assembly this year. Furthermore, the Sorority welcomed a batch of 21 newDeltans.
May the successes of today be a stepping stone for the year that is to come. With Archon Donna's directionandnavigation,Iamsure that the Sorority will reach new heightsfor2023.
Upward and onward Sisters. AltioraPeto!

Max is, in a word, warm. Instantly, when you meet her, you feel the warmth she just naturally exudes. Welcoming, understanding, kind, never one to leave anyone out of the conversation no matter who you are. She somehow always finds a way to relate to and form a connection with anyone. This warmth, however, comes from an inner fire. One that is fiercely determined to reach her goals and dreams, taking all her hardships in stride and with grace. She is meticulous and leaves no stone unturned whether that be simple outings with sisters or carefully planned out trip itineraries. Indeed, she is someone we are incredibly lucky to be able to call a sister.
Isa is the only fresh graduate in her set, but she will forever be their baby. Don’t be deceived, however, for she is an old soul with the wisdom and strength found in those beyond her years. Even as she faces her own challenges, she remains a pillar of strength and a voice of reason - full of sensible advice that is always tempered by her good nature and compassionate heart. Though Isa simply sees herself as the "cheerleader in the sidelines”, she is, in fact, a shining beacon for her sisters who see her as an inspiring figure of creativity, grit, and perseverance.
Janessa Mari KuderaThe most admirable thing about Jan is that she blooms, whether she is watered or not. In sunshine and in adversities, she thrives and perseveres. People know her as being smart and strong, and, while accurate, these do not nearly encapsulate all that she is and all the great things she is capable of. And while all of her powerful characteristics stand out, the love Jan has—for the people around her, the work she does, and the world she lives in, shines even brighter.
Choeli is one of the most genuine and lovable people anyone could meet. She can balance law school, org work, her social life, and still make everything look so effortless despite her busy schedule. She stays true to her words and commits to her responsibilities faithfully to execute them well. As a sister, she shines with her fun and bright personality which draws everyone to her. Behind her bubbly persona, she also is a reliable sister who likes to express her heart with the purest intentions of helping others. With her strong will and passion for excellence, there is no doubt that she will rise above all challenges and succeed in whatever path she takes.
Being a working law student is no disadvantage to Lis. These experiences allow her to see the world differently, which made her equipped and capable to deal with the challenges life has to offer. The world has made her tough, focused, and capable. However, beyond that rough exterior lies a heart full of compassion, warmth, humor, and light that not everyone gets to experience. Lis is truly a great blessing to all her sisters, and is greatly loved.
Despite being a full-time working law student, Cha has always been dependable friend and a supportive sister. She makes it a point to check up on her batchmates and friends, making sure that they are alright. Her easy-going vibe and can-do attitude inspires every person around her. She never backs down in the face of challenges. Even with a hectic schedule as an employee, as a block president, as a daughter, and as a Deltan, Cha never fails to make everyone smile. She brings light and joy to everyone around her. This is why Cha is beloved by many and DLS is lucky to have Cha as their sister.
Bella is one of the most determined, charismatic, and confident people you will ever meet. She is the life of any party. Despite being "iyakin", Bella is a strong woman who will always choose to push through. Bella is also a fearless friend. She will wholeheartedly support you in your goals and defend you with her life. If you ever need a pick-me-up, Bella will be on the job right away: making silly faces, telling the funniest stories, or even just lending you an ear. Anyone would be extremely lucky to call her their friend, and most especially, their sister.
Sui, a 22-year old fourth year BA Film student, might give an initial impression of having a tall wall to overcome, but she actually warms up easily to genuine and honest people; it's easy to bond with Sui with Formula 1 racing or films. She is a responsible and steady person who knows what she believes in, and she stands by it. Sui sees her true value, does not settle for less, and does not let herself be compromised. Without a doubt, she also feels the same way about the important people in her life. Needless to say, in a coming-of-age story, Sui is the perfect character of a sister and a friend to treasure and cherish for a lifetime.
Gia is a sociable and caring woman with the kindest heart and the purest intentions. She's always eager to lend a helping hand, and is genuinely interested in talking to people and accepting them for who they are. There is never a dull moment with her; she can hold a conversation better then your favorite talk show host! She can do anything and everything everywhere all at once– she juggles her academic, work, org(ssssssss), home, and sorority duties with ease. Balance is Gia’s second nature! Anyone would be lucky to know her as she's as authentic as anyone could be.
Riva Iris QuitevisClear the runway, because Via's designs will definitely steal the show! A 22-year-old in BS Clothing Technology, Via is a driven young woman who dreams of running her own atelier to establish herself as a proud Filipino designer. Truly, she is a woman of ambition, resilience, and fearlessness. Aside from her talents in the field of fashion, Via is a thoughtful and trustworthy friend. Reg is a literal ball of sunshine. She comes in, full of fire, and gives life to everything she touches. Reg has continued to push herself towards success in every way she can. This led her to develop skills in different areas; she can write well, design publication materials, create bookmarks and other pieces of art, and sing marvelously. Her passion for excellence is something that blows people away. The best thing about Reg is how she strives to look at the bright side of things. To borrow the words of Catriona Gray, Reg is someone who looks for the silver lining in that dark, ominous cloud. She sees the beauty in everything and everyone, taking all that beauty in. Her optimism astounds everyone, gravitating people towards her.
Home is a friend, a sister, and a person. Noah is many things. Noah wears many hats — a working law student, a sister, a daughter, a grandaughter, a friend, a confidante. How they fulfill these roles everyday, while always remaining the sweetest and loveliest person in the room is a wonder. As if these weren’t enough, Noah is also everyone’s safe space. They will laugh at KPOP memes, share your anger, and ugly cry through milestones and victories with you. Noah is a gogetter, an excellent person all throughout. However, their best quality is being able to be everyone’s home in a friend — as without doubt, Noah is the warmest and kindest soul there is in this lifetime.
