find anatomy–the way God created our bodies, and how we are affected by food and exercise–fascinating,” says Lymphatic Drainage Massage Therapy (LDT) certified therapist, Delmie DePuma-Aparicio. “I always wanted to not just be a licensed massage therapist, but a medical massage practitioner that helps people heal. Years ago, as my stay-at-home-mom job was ending, I studied and got certified in lymphatics.”

The lymphatic system delivers lymph fluid throughout the body, forming an integral part of the body’s immune system. When the lymph system works well, the body feels healthy, and there’s a strong defense system against infection and illness. But when the lymph system is blocked due to surgery, injury, or childbirth, increased swelling and bruising is likely, and the body becomes more susceptible to infection. Lymphatic massage opens up the lymph nodes, allowing the lymph fluid to flow freely throughout the body, healing the body.

For five years, Delmie worked for a Houston-area group of plastic surgeons. “I was mentored by some of the best doctors who also believed in lymphatic massage for healing,” explains Delmie. “But I always had it in my heart to own my own business. I read a meme that changed my life, ‘Follow your dream, or you end up working for someone who followed theirs.’ At that very moment, I said to myself, ‘If God could do it for others, he would do it for me.’ I gave my two weeks notice, thanked the practice for the opportunity,

Delmie opened True Recovery Lymphatic Massage in 2008, and she’s never looked back. She’s one of the few massage therapists in the country that specializes in plastic surgery recovery, helping individuals reach optimal results after plastic surgery procedures. When Delmie’s daughters started having babies, she realized the same concept could be applied to postnatal recovery of the body. “Using lymphatic massage, I helped my girls get their pre-pregnancy bodies back. Postnatal lymphatic massage is a new concept, but one that’s really taken off among my daughters’ friends and mommy groups.”

“I believe my purpose and my calling ARE my healing hands,” continues Delmie. “I love what I do. I help others heal from plastic surgery recovery and postnatal recovery. I’m passionate about self-care and self-love, and I believe success comes when you love yourself. At True Recovery, I want every patient to feel loved. Healing is our main priority. Each patient’s true recovery begins by developing a customized treatment plan to maximize the body’s ability to heal. We optimize the best results for after plastic surgery procedures, and help new moms’ bodies bounce back after delivery. We support every patient as they become the very best

Two Great Events, One Worthy Cause

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. This year, Tiffany Sebastian, owner of local Classic Chevy Sugar Land and HWY 6 with her husband Jeff, is honored to be an integral part of two events raising awareness and funds for The Rose. The Rose is a Houston-based, nonprofit breast care organization that provides mammograms, diagnostics, ultrasounds, biopsies, and more to women regardless of ability to pay.

First up is Booze for Boobs hosted by Tiffany, Star Hand, Mely Cruz, Neera Patidar, Chloe Di Leo and Amanda Abiassi on October 5th at Ouzo Bay. In its second year, Booze for Boobs is a ladies-only, all-pink-attire event where every dollar raised goes to support The Rose. The event has no overhead. This year, Booze for Boobs has partnered with Let’s Shine to raise money for cold capping therapy that will be provided to women through The Rose in addition to all of the organization’s initiatives and services. Let’s Shine is a nonprofit organization founded by Tiffany and Mely to provide integral life connections and a sense of normalcy to women affected by cancer. Tickets and sponsorships for Booze for Boobs are sold out.

Next up is Serious Wheels on October 8th

at Sugar Land Town Square. Serious Wheels is one of only two large events hosted by Corvette Owners Club of Houston to raise money for local charities. This year, Serious Wheels also benefits The Rose. Corvette Owners Club of Houston President Bill Hoffman says, “Classic Chevy Sugar Land is our club’s only full-fledged GM sponsor. We do a lot of projects with Classic Chevy Sugar Land, and this month’s Serious Wheels car show is one of those projects. Join us on October 8th for an afternoon of family fun! A huge thank you to Tiffany and Jeff at Classic Chevy Sugar Land for once again sponsoring the event and graciously allowing us to hold our regular meetings in their conference facility.”

Tiffany says, “For me, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer is personal. I’ve spent the last year walking this journey with Mely. She’s a breast cancer survivor and thriver. I’m humbled to be a small part of these two great events raising money for The Rose. Thank you all for your support.”

Don’t Be Afraid to Seal Out Cavities

For many kids, it’s an exciting night of costumes and candy. But are you concerned about your child’s teeth and the cavities they could be getting from all that sugar?

H

For 40 years and counting, Thomas Lomonte, D.D.S. has been checking the teeth of entire families...including the little people who are super excited about that overflowing bag of candy. Dr. Lomonte says, “Parents are right to be con cerned, but it’s also important to know that cavities and decay don’t pop up after one Halloween’s worth of loot. They form over time, and many possible cavities can actually be avoided.”

How? By protecting little teeth with dental sealants. “We apply sealants to your child’s cavity-free teeth,” explains Dr. Lomonte. “Sealants are painted onto the exterior of the tooth to protect the tiny grooves and crannies from the bacteria and food particles that typically cause cavities to develop. Eighty to 100% of pos sible cavities are avoided when teeth are protected by dental sealants. And seal ants aren’t just for kids. They work equally as well for adults.”

We know. The sealants sound great, but the thought of your child “in the chair” is scarier than the scariest Halloween ghoul. Fear no more. Dr. Lomonte is famous for taking the anxiety out of dentistry, for both kids and adults. Dr. Lomonte says, “I do everything possible to make dental visits a pleasant experience…from comfortable seating in the waiting room to my friendly staff. I also keep up with the latest in technology and proce

dures in this constantly evolving field of dentistry. By focusing on continuing education, I make sure you are getting the best, most advanced (and painless!) care possible.”

Happy Halloween from Dr. Lomonte and his friendly staff. “We’ll see you soon!”

“It’s Mrs. Grantham Again!”

Pat Grantham has receipts for Alan’s Plumbing dat ing back at least 12 years. “I call Alan’s again and again,” explains Pat. “Because they’re hon est and very dependable. When you look for people to work on your house, you never know what you’re going to get. I’m blessed to have found Alan’s. Each time they come out, it’s almost always a crisis, and they have never not shown up. Alan’s provides me with information on what’s wrong, and then they give sugges tions on how to best fix it and circumvent even more crises.”

Founded in 1996 by Master Plumber Alan Burkhalter, Alan’s Plumbing is a local, fam ily-owned company. Alan’s wife Jennifer answers the phones. Pat says, “Jennifer is the point person on the phone and the mom of the family. I’ve never actually met Jennifer in person, but I feel like I know her. When I call, I say, ‘It’s Mrs. Grantham again!’ Jennifer always answers my ques tions, and when it’s a critical situation, Jennifer gets someone out to me ASAP.”

“I usually work with Chris,” con tinues Pat. Chris is Alan’s broth er, and he’s also a Master Plumber. “I lost my husband eight years ago, and my kids help me out. Chris has met my kids, and he’s devel oped a rapport with my son Ryan. Together they orches trate what needs to be done, and how much money will be spent. Chris is so positive. We’ve put in a water heater, toi lets, and a kitchen sink. Over the years, I’ve watched Alan’s boys–Luke, Beau, and Jake–grow up.”

Today, all of Alan’s sons work for their dad. Luke is a Master Plumber, Beau is jour neyman-licensed, and Jake is a plumbing apprentice close to his journeyman license. The Alan’s Plumbing crew includes jour neyman-licensed plumbers Jeff Johnson and Jaime, and tradesman-licensed Trevor. Most recently, Pat’s pipes backed up in her master bathroom. “Of course, I had just put new carpet in the master bedroom and part of the bathroom,” says Pat. “When it happened, I did a simple thing Chris had taught me: I turned off the water to not

make it a horrifying experience. I called Alan’s, and Chris and Jaime got here quickly. I was in the kitchen cooking when Chris came in to let me know what needed to be done. All of the pipes were backed up, and I needed a new toilet. They worked two hours, got the job done, cleaned up, and I was good to go.”

“Alan and Jennifer have done a great job with their kids,” continues Pat. “Everyone at Alan’s Plumbing has integrity. When you live in an older neighborhood, you do a lot of repairs. But I don’t want to move! I was a teacher here for 50 years, and I raised my kids here. I know that with the spirit Alan’s family has in running this business, Alan’s Plumbing will be here for a long time. I will continue to call Alan’s Plumbing every time I need a plumber.”

Justin Russell’s Story

Russell wanted to sell his home several years ago. “I was working with a real estate agent I had found through a friend,” says Justin. “But just as we were getting started, my dad got sick. I didn’t have the time, so I pulled the plug on selling my home.”

Justin

After Justin’s dad passed away in 2019, he reached out to that same agent to sell his father’s home. “She was no longer in the business,” explains Justin. “So she recommended I reach out to Keller Williams Southwest (KWSW) agent Liz Guevara. Liz and I hit it off right off the bat. She’s very personable, and asked good business questions. Liz was very interested in getting to know me and my background…my story. My dad had lived in that house since 1995. It was very important to us that we sell it to someone who would be good with the neighbors.”

“To prepare dad’s home for sale, Liz gave good recommendations on paint colors and what to do with the yard and the pool. She has a lot of experience in administering real estate

transactions. Liz was very strategic in setting a price point that made sense for the area. The house was not on the market long. During negotiations, Liz never said, ‘No.’ She always came back with alternatives that kept the process moving forward. When it was time to close, Liz recommended a title company, and all of the pre-work she did made the closing quick and easy for us.”

The experience selling his dad’s home made it simple for Justin to choose Liz again to sell his own home. “Once again, Liz strategically set the price point. In three days, my house was shown to 70 people, and I had 20 offers on it. I sold for 11% above the price point. I had found a townhome I wanted to buy, and I showed it to Liz. She liked the layout, the location, and the price…and I love it! Liz makes both buying and selling a good experience…one that’s enjoyable for all parties involved. I absolutely recommend Liz. In fact, I have already recommended her to several friends!”

October has arrived! Here in Fort Bend County, autumn (hopefully) brings cooler weather. Board-certified emergency medicine doctor, Dr. Katan Patel of St. Michael’s Elite Hospital, reminds us that fall is also a great time to ensure you and your family are prepared for the upcoming flu season and other potential illnesses. Dr. Patel says, “The kids are back in school, and they are bringing home all sorts of different things. The best thing you can do is make sure you are up to date on all vaccinations. Flu hasn’t been all that high the last couple of years thanks to the coronavirus, but that doesn’t mean you should skip the flu vaccine. October is the ideal month to get your new flu shot. The updated Omicron booster for COVID-19 is also now more readily available. Eighty to 90% of all current cases are the Omicron variant. The Omicron booster is more effective against this variant. We do recommend the Omicron booster.”

For those suffering from the flu or COVID-19, when is it time to go to the emergency room? “The young and healthy with no medical problems typically recover from both the flu and COVID-19 without seeing a doctor,” explains Dr. Patel. “However, for older individuals and those with other medical conditions, the flu and COVID-19 can be more serious. If you are experiencing difficulty breathing, lightheadedness, dizziness, or chest pain, you need to go to the emergency room. Those with asthma, diabetes, and kidney disease need to watch their oxygen levels. Oximeters are readily available, and can be ordered from companies like Amazon.

In a healthy person, your oxygen level is 100%. If your oxygen level drops to 92% or below, you need to seek medical attention immediately. Here at St. Michael’s, if needed we can admit you to the hospital under the care of our hospitalists.”

Dr. Patel is a graduate of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. St. Michael’s Elite Hospital was founded 15 years ago by Dr. Shannon Orsak. It is under the direction of CEO/CNO Jessica Rivas. This state-of-the-art facility provides high-quality hospital and emergency room care in a safe and comfortable setting. Dr. Patel and the entire team of board-certified emergency room physicians specialize in diagnosing and treating emergency medical needs such as allergic reactions, broken bones, high fevers, and chest pain. They also provide a quick diagnosis and care for patients suffering from the flu, COVID-19, and more.

St. Michael’s offers the Moderna booster for COVID-19.

“The best ways to stay healthy this fall are to get up to date on your vaccinations, practice good hand hygiene, and wear a mask when you can,” says Dr. Patel. “Wishing you all a nice, cool autumn season!”

Clever Ideas

for a Perfect Kitchen

F or 26 years, Lisa and Joel wanted to redo their kitchen. “The counter had a large bend in it to make a bar,” explains Lisa. “It created an L-shape that made it impossible to walk through the kitchen when the dishwasher was open. We wanted to remove the bend to create a larger eating space, and extend the island from three feet to six feet.”

Lisa and Joel called three contractors for quotes, including Teri Gilberg (better known as The Re-Modelista). Teri was a referral from one of Joel’s former co-workers. Joel says, “Teri was our choice. She was not cold. We found her very easy to talk to.” Joel and Lisa knew they wanted a white kitchen. Lisa says, “Remodeling was all new to us, so we had five million questions. I thought we would be a nuisance, but Teri didn’t mind questions at all. When she saw indecision in our faces, she helped us understand and make decisions.” To select a quartz countertop, Teri referred the couple to Natural Stone Gallery. Teri recommended they contact interior designer Louise Ostrander to select floor tile, grout, and for other decorating advice.

“Our remodel was down to the studs, and Teri also gave great suggestions,” continues Lisa. “We took the cabinets all the way to the ceiling for more storage space. The island has drawers instead of cabinets for my baking and decorating tools. I love that they’re all stored right where I need them! For 26 years, we used a flashlight to look into the pantry. Now it has a real light. I have a cabinet that’s slim and upright just for pans, and in the corner Teri put in corner drawers to not waste any space. Instead of a backsplash, the quartz goes up the wall for easy cleaning. The new can lights with a dimmer switch really brighten up the kitchen. A full sink, instead

of a double sink, is heaven on earth. One cabinet has windowed doors to display my coffee mug collection.

When our Keurig with the K-pods underneath wouldn’t fit under the new cabinets, Teri suggested making a coffee center with the pods in a drawer. It’s perfect.”

The kitchen remodel came in just under Teri’s estimated budget. Lisa says, “We ended up adding on to the project, including repainting our living room, redoing the staircase banister, and using the leftover quartz to build a desk. Teri and her Project Manager, Lisa, are fantastic. They keep things going, and they make things right. When the cabinet door above the fridge was hitting the light, they worked on it until it was just right. If there was something I didn’t like, I felt I could talk to them, and they found a solution. This experience was wonderful. I would absolutely recommend Teri to anyone wanting to remodel.”

“S

parents tell me that if kids leave their bag of Halloween candy out for the Halloween Fairy, she’ll magically turn it into a toy,” explains Dr. Shilpa Chandiwal DDS, owner of local Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry.

Who is the Halloween Fairy? She’s a very close friend of the Tooth Fairy. “The Tooth Fairy’s mission is healthy teeth,” continues Dr. Shilpa. “But during Halloween, her job gets a bit overwhelming. Jawbreakers and hard candy can chip a little one’s pearly whites. Super-sticky, gummy candies like caramels, taffy, jellybeans, and licorice cling to teeth. They’re really hard to brush off, and can eat away at the enamel at night. The Halloween Fairy helps the Tooth Fairy out by turning all of this candy into a toy. Parents who are concerned about nutrition and safety love this plan just as much as the Tooth Fairy.”

The Halloween Fairy

Ghosts and goblins, creepers and monsters…there’s a lot to be afraid of this time of year. Know what’s not scary? Visiting the dentist. “My team and I go to great lengths to make visits to our office child-friendly,” continues Dr. Shilpa. “We cater to all kids, including special needs kids. At your child’s first visit, our goal is to establish a positive relationship and to evaluate your child’s dental health. We are laying the groundwork for a lifetime of healthy gums and teeth. When talking about going to the dentist, we encourage parents to avoid the use of words that can create fear, such as ‘needle,’ ‘pull,’ ‘drill,’ or ‘hurt.’ Together, we can make going to the dentist an enjoyable experience. Because it’s really NOT scary!”

With two convenient locations, Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry is in-network with most insurances and offers convenient office hours, including Saturday appoint ments. “Have a fun and safe Halloween,” says Dr. Shilpa. “I hope the Halloween Fairy visits each and every one of you!”

After All Cool installed the new system, our bill was $400 less…in July!”

Houston radio super couple Theresa “RockFace” from 94.5 The Buzz and Adam Clanton from SportsTalk 790 moved to Fort Bend County a little over a year ago to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Theresa says, “This house was a fixer upper. Nearly everything was old. One of the A/C units was new, but the other was as old as it could get. We knew it needed to be replaced, but we kept putting it off. Then one morning in July, it just gave out.”

Not knowing who to call, Theresa called Trane. The local Trane distributor reached out to Bryan Bellamy, owner of Fort Bend area All Cool A/C & Heating. Bryan alerted his team immediately. Theresa says, “All Cool called me and said they’d send somebody the next day. Later that day, they called again. They were in the neighborhood and wanted to come by to look at the unit. We’ve done a lot of work on this house, and sometimes contractors NEVER show up. We’ve had so much bad luck…good work is hard to find. When All Cool showed up on their own on the same day, we knew they were the right people!” The All Cool technician verified what was needed and put together a plan. Forty hours later, All Cool was at Theresa and Adam’s home installing a new system. “It was so simple,” says Theresa. “Easy breezy.”

Both Adam and Theresa have radio studios inside the home. Other A/C companies had unsuccessfully tried to get more air to Adam’s studio. Theresa says, “All Cool fixed the problem in about 10 minutes, and they got more air to my studio as well. They also discovered that the primary drain on the other system was clogged. We are city people…we know nothing! Know what was really mind blowing? Our electric bill. After All Cool installed the new system, our bill was $400 less…in July!”

Theresa battles severe allergies to mold and dust. To help, All Cool put in a whole home filtration system. Bryan says, “We also installed an Air Scrubber on the new system (The other

system was already outfitted with the Air Scrubber.). The Air Scrubber uses UV light to reduce particles that can irritate allergies and asthma. Together, the whole home filtration system and the Air Scrubbers improve the indoor air quality in the home.”

Family-owned and operated, All Cool A/C & Heating has been serving the Fort Bend area since 1989. Bryan says, “We serve several customers on the same street as Theresa and Adam. We are committed to doing everything we can to take care of them. It’s what we do for all of our clients.

Sixty-nine-year-old Mitra Panchal is a local real estate agent and a grand mother. Mitra says, “I don’t feel 69! I feel like I’m in my 30s or 40s. But I found myself having serious back pain. I have a high pain threshold, but this pain was so bad I was walking with extreme difficulty, and I could not get on the floor to play with my grandchildren. I let it slide for a while, but I need to be able to walk a lot and climb stairs for my job. It’s important when showing properties. Finally, I decided to look for a chiroprac tor. I blindly chose Sugar Land Health Center because they were closest to my house. And I’m happy I went there…very happy!”

Dr. Steve Harris opened Sugar Land Health Center in 1982. In the summer of 2019, he welcomed his son-in-law, Dr. Zack Brazzell, to the practice. Together, they offer a wide variety of chiropractic care modalities and associated therapies to help people with pain find relief and improve their overall health. Through his 40 plus years as a chiropractor, Dr. Harris has developed his own methods and treatments for every layer of the body to promote healing.

Mitra’s x-rays revealed she had five herniated discs. Dr. Brazzell put together a treatment plan for Mitra that included adjustment, laser therapy, electrical therapy, and traction. “I felt really good after the very first treatment,” says Mitra. “At my worst, my pain was at an 11 on a 1-10 scale. Now, it’s 2 to 3. When I started treat ment, I couldn’t bend down at all. Today, I can touch my fingers to the floor, and I’m 1.5 inches taller. I can wear heels for the first time in four years. I can do the walking my job demands. Before my treatments with Dr. Brazzell, I was not able to care for grandchildren. I get so much pleasure from taking care of them, and now I have that back! I also have issues with cervical spondylosis in my neck, a condition that causes severe migraines. I used to experience a severe migraine four times a week. With Dr. Brazzell’s treatment, the migraines are way less frequent. This treatment has helped me so much.” “I’ve already recommended Sugar Land Health Center to many friends,” continues Mitra. “This

practice values people’s time. I’m always seen immediately, at my appointment time. The entire staff is extremely sweet, patient, helpful, and caring. I also see how patients react to Dr. Harris, and I can tell he’s equally as good as Dr. Brazzell. Everyone makes you feel so comfortable!”
