Non-Invasive Options For Urinary Incontinence and Sculpting The Body by Amy Sharp

I

n her continued efforts to bring whole-body, holistic options to the Fort Bend County area, Dr. Julia Ward, founder of Balanced Body Functional Medicine, is excited to offer EMSCULPT and EMSELLA treatments. Dr. Ward says, “This innovative technology uses a high intensity electromagnetic field to build muscles and strengthen your body non-invasively. EMSELLA rehabilitates weak pelvic muscles and restores neuromuscular control. It’s ideal for the treatment of male and female urinary incontinence, and also beneficial for enhanced sexual pleasure in women. Think kegel exercises, but you do none of the work. You can read a book, check your email, or chat on the phone during your treatment. You’re literally just sitting on a chair.” EMSCULPT uses this same technology to tone the abdominal muscles or the rear. Dr. Ward says, “The high intensity electromagnetic field induces powerful muscle contractions not achievable through voluntary contractions. You simply lay down, and I place the paddles on the area of treatment. Then we let the paddles do the work. Your body responds with a deep remodeling of its inner structure that leads to muscle building and sculpting your body. The result is substantial improvement of appearance in your abs or butt. A half hour of EMSCULPT treatment to the abs is like doing 2000 crunches!” At Balanced Body Functional Medicine, Dr. Ward is offering package deals for both EMCELLA and EMSCULPT to maximize results. “Both of these procedures can be enhanced by doing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) right after treatment,” explains Dr. Ward. “HBOT floods the muscles with oxygen, organically encouraging muscles and tissues to mend and recover. It’s super easy too. You simply breathe the oxygen-rich air in the spacious oxygen chamber. For patients exploring the benefits of EMCELLA, I’m also including the O-Shot as part of the package. The O-Shot is a nonsurgical procedure that uses a woman’s own Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) from a simple blood draw to rejuvenate vaginal tissues. It’s great for treating stressinduced urinary incontinence, and it also enhances sexual pleasure. By combining the O-Shot, EMCELLA, and HBOT, we are non-invasively attacking urinary incontinence on multiple fronts.” At Balanced Body Functional Medicine, Dr. Ward offers a wide array of functional, holistic options to improve your health and appearance. “I feel like we have a recipe to fix just about anyone. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing the quantifiable results in my patients and hearing them report how mentally, physically and psychologically great they feel. Let me know how I can help you!”

or Price?

f you had to pick two, which two would you pick? Service and quality? Quality and price? Master Plumber Alan Burkhalter, founder of local Alan’s Plumbing, says, “Here at Alan’s Plumbing, we strive for all three!” Think about it this way: If you want a good meal, it takes some time to prepare and cook it. When you’re in a hurry, you might go to a fast food restaurant…but the food isn’t nearly as good as it could have been if freshly prepared. You may have spent a small amount of money, but it’s a relatively unappetizing meal. Alan says, “My guys and I have been doing plumbing work here in Fort Bend County for a long time. We’ve seen the work performed by ‘fast food’ contractors. The result is very similar to a lowquality meal: The price wasn’t that much less, and the quality is never as good.”

A long time indeed, it’s been more than 20 years since Alan first launched Alan’s Plumbing. Today, his business is a family affair. Alan’s brother Chris and his son Luke are also Master Plumbers. Alan’s son Beau is journeyman-licensed and studying for his master plumber license, and his son Jake is an apprentice close to his journeyman license. Alan’s wife Jennifer answers the phones at Alan’s Plumbing. Journeyman-licensed plumbers Jeff Johnson and Jaime, and tradesman-licensed Trevor are 100% onboard in maintaining Alan’s reputation for great service, quality, and price. Alan says, “A friend recently told me that he saw a plumber who does it all at rock bottom prices. His strategy? He purchases the materials for his jobs at a bargain store. My friend could not believe it. I laughed, because I could believe it. The

boys and I have seen his work, and we’re often called in to repair it.” “The truth is,” continues Alan, “people often forget how fast you did a job. But they do remember how well you did it, and they tell their friends. We strive to provide good work, and you’ve told your neighbors. For that, we thank you, Fort Bend County!” Get it right the first time. Why should I buy a used car or truck from Classic Chevrolet? by Amy Sharp

AVAILABILITY-VALUE-QUALITY

hopping for a car has changed a lot in the last 10 years. If you’re looking for a pre-owned vehicle, there’s a good chance you do your research online first to locate the car or truck that interests you. Jeff and Tiffany Sebastian, owners of local Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land and HWY 6, say, “If you are shopping for a used car or truck in the greater Houston metro area, you certainly should consider all of your options. But not all used car dealers are all that honest, and some of the cars they sell

may not be up to quality and safety standards. They may have hidden defects, and you may have unexpected and unwanted repair bills down the road.” One good rule of thumb is to only shop for used cars at reputable car dealers like Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land and HWY 6, or to have a car inspected before buying it. Tiffany says, “Before you buy a preowned car, it should be inspected by a qualified specialist. Here at Classic Chevrolet, we provide you with the confidence that each of our pre-owned vehicles has undergone our own rigorous inspection. We live here, and we’re your neighbors. We want you to drive with confidence!” Classic Chevy Sugar Land and Classic Chevy HWY 6 have the largest selection and inventory in

the city. Inventory at both locations can be conveniently viewed online, where clients can also get prequalified in seconds, get a trade-in quote, and view available pre-owned vehicles. The showroom and the service department at the Sugar Land location is open Monday-Saturday, closed Sunday. The HWY 6 location is open Sunday-Friday, closed Saturday. Jeff says, “We recognize that for many of our clients, shopping for a vehicle or getting your car serviced is most convenient on weekends. That’s why Sugar Land is open Saturday, and on Sunday the HWY 6 location is open and available for all of your vehicle needs.” Classic Chevy Sugar Land and HWY 6: With just one name to remember and two convenient locations, finding the perfect pre-owned vehicle is easier than ever!

She Avoided

Hip Replacement Surgery

by Amy Sharp everal years ago, Diana Alejos suffered trauma to her hip. “The soft part on my inner hip joint was bruised by the incident. I had an edema under the skin that eventually caused my hip to deteriorate. It was bone on bone. The ball on the joint had crashed into the socket. I was losing the ability to walk.” “I’m always looking for alternatives to meds and surgeries,” continues Diana. “I tried different supplements, gadgets, and therapies for my hip. I flew to California to see a chiropractor, and he could not fix me. An orthopedic surgeon told me I needed a hip replacement. That it wouldn’t be long before I couldn’t walk at all, and I would be begging him for a hip replacement. I was interested in stem cells, but I did not want umbilical products because they do not contain live stem cells. My son suggested I find a doctor that used my own stem cells to repair and regenerate the cartilage in my hip.” Ultimately, Diana found Dr. Ugochi Azuike, founder of Sugar Land Interventional Orthopedics & Regenerative Medicine. “Dr. Azuike diagnosed me with collapsed avascular necrosis of the hip,” says Diana. When Diana went in for her stem cell treatment, she was limping badly and dragging one foot. Her pain level was a 10. Within six months, Diana’s pain had dropped to a 1. Today, 18 months later, Diana no longer uses her walker. She occasionally uses a scooter for long distances. Diana says, “I can now walk without a waddle and without pain. I have more range of motion. I can now dance. I can do many things that I could not. I firmly believe that our bodies will heal, we just have to give our bodies what they need. The rest is magical.

S

Supplements are important. Therapies are important. Exercise is important. I’m still seeing improvements every day. I’m consulting with Dr. Azuike about doing treatments everywhere that I have issues with osteoarthritis. I’ve given myself two years to get to where I want to be. I believe that we are never too old to amaze even ourselves. At age 66, I feel great! The orthopedic surgeon told me I was going to beg him for a hip replacement…yeah right!” Sugar Land Interventional Orthopedics & Regenerative Medicine 832-400-2253 1441 Hwy 6 #100, Sugar Land, Texas 77479 www.sugarlandregenerative.com

Laugh and the world laughs with you, snore and you

sleep alone

by Amy Sharp ilent nights. Do they exist only in your daydreams? If snoring has driven you or your spouse to sleep on the couch, Dr. Thomas Lomonte, D.D.S. has the solution for you! Snore Guard® is an FDA-approved prescription solution that can bring back silent nights. Dr. Lomonte says, “As a dentist, I’ve seen the way jaw position impacts your airway. The Snore Guard® features Air Flow Technology™ that helps prevent the jaw from receding. The tongue then seeks out an opening between the upper and lower portion of the Snore Guard® instead of dropping back into the throat. The result? The airway stays open, and snoring is greatly reduced.”

On the market since 1989, Snore Guard® enjoys a 95% reported success rate for reducing snoring according to the American Sleep Association. Dr. Lomonte says, “Whether you’re the one snoring or the one listening, you’re losing sleep. Fatigue can lead to headaches, concentration problems, hypertension, depression, and cardiac disease. Sleeping pills, earplugs and nose strips are all expensive attempts to treat the surface problem: the noise. But snoring starts with the position of your jaw and tongue at night. Snore Guard® has a proven track record, and it’s approved by the FDA. I want my patients to live long, healthy lives...and Snore Guard® can help!” It’s estimated that more than 90 million people in North America snore. A quick visit to Dr. Lomonte’s office on Murphy Road—where he’s practiced since 1982—fixes the issue in one visit. “We can custom-fit your Snore Guard® chair side,” says Dr. Lomonte, “without sleep studies or other delays. You may not have had silent nights for the holidays, but I’m confident we can get you back into your own bedroom this spring! Both you and your spouse will sleep in heavenly peace

from here on out.”

lutch City Insurance agent Cindy Posas has been helping Medicare beneficiaries select Medicare coverage since 2008. Cindy says, “I started this business part-time while I was teaching. I became full-time when my mom became ill, and I was responsible for her care. I realized just how confusing Medicare can be, and that many people have no one to help. I’ve navigated the system not just as an agent, but as a daughter and power of attorney. I’m passionate about helping people.” “It’s important to get good information on the front end,” continues Cindy. “It can save unnecessary headaches. Just because you’re turning 65 doesn’t mean it’s necessary to enroll in Medicare…especially if you’re still employed. Not all employer insurance is the same, and Medicare handles COBRA differently. I’ve seen situations where people were penalized due to poor advice. I don’t want that to happen to you.” During your consultation, Cindy breaks down your options, reviewing physicians and prescription medications before you make

But did you know that Dr. Faisal M. Khan DDS of Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental has a long and illustrious track record for making both kids and parents happy? Do You Qualify For a Dry Eye Disease Clinical Trial?

H

by Amy Sharp

ave you suffered from dry eye disease for more than six months? You may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial at the Dry Eye and Specialty Center. Dr. Faheem Inayatali, founder of the Dry Eye & Specialty Center, says, “Symptoms of dry eye disease include grittiness, itching, burning, redness, and watery eyes. Many people suffer for years and do nothing about it. Others just haven’t found relief with artificial tears. Here at Dry Eye & Specialty Center, we take great pride in being on the cutting-edge of technology and treatment, and that includes conducting clinical trials to set the gold standard for doctors around the globe.” Dr. Faheem, board-certified and principal investigator of the newest dry eye trial, is in collaboration with Harvard University focusing on dry eye treatments in conjunction with dietary supplements. How does it work? There are only 35 clinical trial spots available. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, have suffered from dry eye disease for at least 6 months, and not had eye surgery in the past three months. During the clinical trial, all participants will receive some sort of treatment at no cost. Participants will also be required to take a regiment of particular vitamins, including fish oil. There is one required office visit each of the three months, which will take about an hour per visit. Dr. Faheem ensures your symptoms are improving, and gathers data with complimentary imaging to ensure you are utilizing the supplements correctly. Dr. Faheem says, “This is a high-value treatment and medical care at no cost. Participants will benefit quite a bit. At the end of the trial, each will receive complimentary medical reports of treatments and improvements.” To see if you are eligible for the clinical trial, go to Tiny.cc/dryeyetrial or call Dry Eye and Specialty Center to complete a simple, two minute eligibility questionnaire. or more than 30 years, Lone Star Floors has served the people of Fort Bend’s interior design needs. Co-owner Mohamed Naser says, “My cousins–Ziad Mukhaimer and Imad Mansour–and I started all those years ago by offering high-quality flooring. We then expanded into plumbing, shower glass, painting and countertops. Now in 2022, we’re thrilled to add lighting and outdoor grills to our showroom floors.” “Lighting is an essential but often disregarded aspect of interior design,” continues Mohamed. “While it’s often seen as a utility or a necessary commodity, it can become a design feature in itself. Here at Lone Star Floors, we can help you select pendant lighting that works over your bar or kitchen area and appropriate light levels for your home office space. Chandeliers provide beautiful accent lighting to entryways, breakfast areas, dining rooms, and even bathroom areas.” If you spent the holiday season here at home, there’s a good chance you enjoyed some of it outdoors. Christmas Day was a whopping 85 degrees! Mohamed says, “BBQs and cookouts take place year round, so why not treat yourself with high quality outdoor grill? Here at Lone Star Floors, we are excited to offer some of the best outdoor grills on the market. As they say, a

Our team is at your service happy guest is a well-fed guest!” “As always, we offer free design consultations and measurements, plus professional installation service on both our lighting and grills,” explains Mohamed. “We invite you to visit one of our three showrooms today!”

ocal St. Michael’s Elite Hospital has everything you need to get through this surge of the pandemic. CEO/CNO Jessica Rivas says, “We’ve increased our technology to meet the demand. We offer both antigen (rapid) testing and PCR testing. Antigen testing is a nasal swab that tests for the proteins produced by the virus. PCR is a more specific test. It looks for the genetic material of the virus. The PCR test is great for people that feel they are getting a false negative or false positive from the rapid test. The PCR test is also required for some travel. Here at St. Michael’s, we do not have to send your PCR test to a lab. We have the machine onsite, and will text you the PCR results

in one to two hours.” Appointments are not necessary for COVID19 testing at St. Michael’s Elite Hospital. Jessica says, “Both the rapid and the PCR tests are available 24/7. You can walk in and register at the front desk. For rapid tests, you can also pre-register and prepay by texting the words “COVID TEST” to 888-506-3502 or filling out the form on the St. Michael’s website….and then show up at your convenience. Both PCR and rapid tests are done at your car..” All results (PCR and rapid) are sent via text. St. Michael’s offers COVID-19 vaccines and boosters every Thursday. These can be requested and scheduled by texting the words “COVID

VACCINE” to 888-506-3502. For those that might require hospitalization for COVID-19, St. Michael’s Elite Hospital has everything needed to care for you. Jessica says, “We have the full complement of the latest COVID-19 medications and machines available for ER patients or inpatient care. If you are an ER patient and require admitting, we have beds available. You’ll be placed in a bed immediately.” Founded by Dr. Shannon Orsak and his brother Brian, St. Michael’s Elite Hospital offers security and safety in a smaller, controlled, amazingly clean, and comfortable environment, with little to no wait. This hospital tests and treats Sugar Land and Fort Bend County for all medical problems, including COVID-19. PCR tests, rapid tests, antibody tests, vaccines, and boosters for COVID-19 are all available. Dr. Orsak invites you to experience the St. Michael’s Elite Hospital way. It’s very different!

T

hat’s the slogan the American Dental Association has chosen for the 2022 National Children’s Dental Health Month. Dr. Shilpa Chandiwal DDS at local Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry says, “Each February, the ADA sponsors a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. We love this theme, because sealants really do make sense. They protect kids’ teeth from cavities.” “Many children have deep grooves in their teeth,” continues Dr. Shilpa. “Bacteria, food particles, and plaque can become trapped in those grooves. In fact, 80% of cavities occur in these grooves. These areas are particularly difficult to clean with a toothbrush. A dental sealant is a protective layer placed onto the teeth to prevent anything from becoming stuck in these grooves.” The process of putting on a dental sealant is simple. Dr. Shilpa says, “We ‘paint’ each tooth with a special liquid coating, and then ‘cure’ the paint with light until it’s hard. There’s no anesthesia and no drilling. Sealants do not hurt! They’re an easy, painless way to prevent decay, and they’re usually 100% covered by insurance.” Dr. Shilpa recommends sealing both baby molars and adult molars as soon as they are completely erupted. Over the last 10 years, Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry has grown to two, state-of-the-art locations with two dentists to serve you. Together with Dr. Shilpa, Dr. Cindy Hurd reminds children to brush, floss, and “love your dentist” this Valentine’s Day. Dr. Shilpa and Dr. Hurd say, “Regular cleanings and checkups are important, even for kids. We love our little patients! We also want to send a gentle reminder to not share food with anyone, even family members. You’re sharing bacteria, which can cause cavities… and it’s wise to not share food anyway with COVID-19 going around.” It’s easy to see why “Sealants Make Sense.”...and getting them done at Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry makes sense too! This practice won the Best Pediatric Dental Office Reader’s Choice Award in Fort Bend County by Living Magazine. It’s in-network with most insurances and offers convenient office hours, including Saturday appointments. Schedule an appointment for your child today!

HEALTH MATTERS WITH DRS. STEVE HARRIS AND ZACK BRAZZELL, DOCTORS OF CHIROPRACTIC WHERE PAIN RELIEF COMES NATURALLY

FROM BACK PAIN LEVEL 9 TO NOW MILD!

anet Alston is a retired nurse. She has a rule: If something doesn’t go away in two days, it’s time to see someone. Janet says, “Last fall, I was developing some lower back pain. I had trouble walking, and the pain was really bad on my left side. I knew I did not want surgery, and I didn’t want to go to someone who would talk to me about surgery. I remembered that one of my friends had great success seeing a local chiropractor, Dr. Steve Harris at Sugar Land Health Center. I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Harris.” Dr. Harris opened Sugar Land Health Center in 1982. In the summer of 2019, he welcomed his son-in-law, Dr. Zack Brazzell, to the practice. Together, they offer a wide variety of chiropractic care modalities and associated therapies to help people with pain find relief and improve their overall health. Through his 40 plus years as a chiropractor, Dr. Harris has developed his own methods and treatments for every layer of the body to promote healing. “My x-rays revealed that I have degenerative disc disease,” continues Janet. “I was shocked! I went home to research it, and what may have caused it other than aging…degenerative disc disease was not in my nursing books from 47 years ago! I learned that it was likely an occupational hazard from all the lifting and turning and pulling of patients I did as a nurse. Dr. Harris put together a treatment plan for me that included decompression, adjustment, electrical stimulation, and laser therapy. I was in so much pain, my husband had to drive me to the first treatment. The next day, I couldn’t believe it…my pain was really down. I had gone from a level 9 to a 2, and I was walking straight up. By the third visit, I drove myself, and my pain was gone! Today, I still experience some mild discomfort from time to time, but I would not count it as pain. I’m continuing my recommended treatments with Dr. Harris. This has been a life-changing experience.” “Dr. Harris is very well-educated,” says Janet. “He knows what he’s talking about. Over his more than 40 years in practice, he’s really honed in on what people need, and what works. He’s a fantastic source of information. He answers all questions, he practices what he preaches, and at

every appointment he takes time to address everything and share information. It’s as if you’re his only patient that day. He’s an awesome guy, and the countless ways he has given back to the community and the world are amazing. So many people have been blessed by Dr. Harris. I’ve been telling everyone about him!”
