UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS

2023 – 2024
Ozarks, Ozarks, home we love Loud thy praises be. We, thy faithful sons and daughters, Pledge our loyalty.
Those stirring words of the University of the Ozarks’ alma mater were penned in the spring of 1928 by the Rev. John W. Laird of New York, who was visiting then University President Wiley Lin Hurie on the Ozarks campus. After President Hurie took Rev. Laird on a picnic up in the picturesque Ozark Mountains, the inspired visitor wrote what would become the University’s official anthem.
Nearly 100 years later, those poignant lines — Ozarks, Ozarks, home we love — still resonate with the thousands of alumni and friends who have been positively and enduringly impacted by the gold and purple banner. This hymn is sung on the first day that an Ozarks freshman arrives on campus — during the Matriculation ceremony — and is the last song a graduating senior sings at Commencement before he or she becomes an official alumnus. No matter where life takes our alumni, whether it’s Johnson County or somewhere across the globe, Ozarks is a community with a strong and lasting connection. A connection that leads back to this special place.
Those of you who support the Ozarks Annual Fund and other University initiatives throughout the year take this connection to a whole new level. You don’t just care about this University, you are the “sons and daughters” who truly believe in the mission of this campus to prepare students to live a full life. As one recent alumna said, “When we support Ozarks, we’re telling people that we’re proud of our University and the education we received.”
In the following pages of the 2023-24 Annual Report, you will see the long list of the more than 2,400 faithful alumni and friends who supported the University over the past fiscal year. These gifts range from $1 to several millions of dollars and include alumni from the 1940s to those who graduated in the spring of 2024. We celebrate those who support Ozarks through our various giving societies, which are listed in this report and whose members are recognized each year in our Annual Report.
I thank you for your continued support of our students and of our University. We are truly blessed to have alumni and friends like you who take pride in their alma mater and who step up and answer the call from the gold and purple banner.
When thy gold and purple banner Calls o’er land and sea, On the wings of love’s devotion
We’ll come back to thee
With Ozarks Pride, Rich Nearly 100 years later, those poignant lines — Ozarks, Ozarks, home we love — still resonate with the thousands of alumni and friends who have been positively and enduringly impacted by the gold and purple banner.
Richard L. Dunsworth, University President

Thank you to the hundreds of alumni and friends who support the University’s mission of providing a high-quality, private, Christian education. Every effort is made to ensure that each donor is accurately recognized. “We invest in Ozarks because Ozarks invested in us. We didn’t realize it at the time, but the support we received financially, academically, and personally was, and still is, shaping our futures. We will forever be grateful for the opportunities Ozarks gave us and for the lasting relationships we built with students and staff. Hindsight is 20/20, and knowing what we know now — choosing Ozarks was one of the best decisions we ever made.”

“Because U of O has exciting ministries, including the Walton International Scholars Program, which brings students to Clarksville from Central America and Mexico. And — because of the Thriving Rural Congregations Program, which supports rural PCUSA congregations within the Presbytery of Arkansas. And — because we support Presbyterian organizations and this is one of the best!

“Playing baseball and attending Ozarks for four years was literally an awesome experience and one that I will always be grateful for. Not only did I have a great time playing baseball and getting an education, I’ve made life-long friends from my time there. Knowing that I can help today’s student-athletes have the same type of great experience that I had at Ozarks is a great feeling.”
