students who may not otherwise have a way to fund their education. During the 2022-2023 year, Ozarks awarded $1,651,068 from endowed scholarships. I hope you will take a moment to read about those who provided funding in support of our students by establishing named endowments. GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS A.C. and Wendy Tygart Endowed Scholarship
For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Alvin C. Broyles Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2000 by gifts in memory of Dr. Broyles, a 1941 graduate of Ozarks. A 37-year employee of Exxon Oil Company, he retired as a senior research associate. He was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from University of the Ozarks in 1979, and was a lifetime member of the University of the Ozarks Board of Trustees, where he served as chairman in 1987-88. Scholarship is awarded to a senior student with high moral standards for tuition for the student’s last two semesters.
Anna J AtkinsonWagganer Scholarship
Established in 2021 in honor of Naomi Atkinson Newman and Anna J Atkinson Wagganer for their commitment to the University of the Ozarks. The scholarship will provide scholarship funds to deserving student(s) in need of financial assistance.
Annette Pittman Baxter Scholarship
Provides scholarships for promising students with financial need. First preference given to children of military service personnel, in active service or honorably discharged.
Ardmore First Presbyterian Church Scholarship
Established in March 1984 by the church when Rev. S. A. Anderson was pastor.
Armeda and Richard "Dick" Holmes Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Armeda Holmes in honor of her marriage to Richard Holmes, which was officially established while at U of O in 1953. Their success was built on Christianity and education acting as a foundation throughout their lives, and their teaching careers as a continuation of their legacy in education. Provides scholarships for promising students with a recognized financial need.
Bentonville First Presbyterian Scholarship
The endowment was established by First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville, Ark., in 1991.
Blakemore Family Scholarship
Established in 1997 by Dr. Robbie Blakemore and Mrs. Lorena Blakemore Fraley ’39 to honor and memorialize their parents, Rev. Loren E. Blakemore 1907 and Glena Adkins Blakemore 1907, and to commemorate their children, Nelle ’34, James ’35, Thomas ’36, Lorena ’39, Glenn ’49 and Robbie. It is given to a junior or senior in any field of study. Student should show promise of success in their chosen field of study and demonstrate academic achievement and/or financial need.
Bush-Dobbins Christian Service Scholarship
Established in 1997 by Wallace ’40 and Carolyn Bush ’42 Dobbins and grandson David Dobbins in memory of Lee and Lou Bush. This scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to a student seeking a career in Christian service: ministry, Christian education, youth ministry, sacred music, missions, or other church-related activity.
C. Gene Stephenson Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1991 as recognition of Dr. Stephenson’s appointment as the new president of U of O. Established by W.W. Stephenson Petroleum of Oklahoma.
Carolyn Dobbins Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2006 by Carolyn Bush ’42 Dobbins and husband Wallace ’40. To provide scholarships to students with financial need who demonstrate leadership skills in high school and in their community. First preference will be given to students planning a career in communication or as a librarian.

UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS
Caroline Whitson Endowed Scholarship
Established by family and friends of former Ozarks professor and provost Dr. Caroline Whitson to honor her upon her leaving Ozarks to become a university president in South Carolina. The Whitson Scholarship is awarded to students based on merit and financial need, with preference given to English majors.
Champlin Grandchildren Endowed Scholarship
A long-time friend of Mrs. Helen R. Walton, Mrs. Champlin of Enid, Okla., established this scholarship to positively assist young lives, honor family and praise the Lord. Given to a dedicated student with high moral standards.
Charles and Nadine Baum Presidential Scholarship
Established in 1993 from the Trust of Nadine Baum. They were friends of Sam and Helen Walton and lifelong philanthropists in Arkansas. Requires ACT of 27 or SAT of 1210.
Charles N. and Marion T. Stephens Scholarship
Established by a gift from Marion T. Stephens in 1988. Awarded for the purpose of promoting academics.
Charles N. & Wilma K. Schwoerke Endowed Scholarship
To be awarded to students with limited financial resources who are contributing financially to the expense of his/her education and with at least a “C average.”
Charlotte W. Newcombe Endowed Scholarship
Mrs. Charlotte Newcombe was given stock from her father that helped her grow her personal wealth. A foundation in her name was formed upon her death, which provided funds to numerous Presbyterian-related charities. These scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of need, from rural or inner-city.
Christina Alter Scholarship
Established in 2011 by Christina Alter ’33. She attended two years while her husband worked in the coal mines in Hartman. She considers her time at Ozarks as the happiest times in her life.
Class of 1935 Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1979 by classmates of 1935 graduates Philip B. Phillips and Arthur Nichols, the scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior who has a 2.5 GPA and who demonstrates financial need and high character.
Cleon and Homer Brown Endowed Scholarship
Established in January 1984 from the estate of Cleon M. Brown. Given to a Christian student, with high academic achievement.
Conger-Talton Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1966 through the will of Margaret Talton. Her father, Harlon Conger, also contributed to the scholarship. Awarded based on merit and demonstrated financial need.
Dale M. and Franceil Sadler Scholarship
Established in 1987 by long-time Ozarks supporters Dale and Franceil Sadler, Presbyterians who loved the University and its students. Awarded to students in good academic standing.
Don Pearsall Transition Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Barbara Pearsall in memory of her husband, Don. Mrs. Pearsall wanted to help students in transition regarding their majors. Awarded to students in transition who have completed at least 45 semester hours with a GPA of at least 2.8.
Donaldson Turner Endowed Scholarship
Retired Col. Claude Donaldson ’60 established this scholarship in memory of his wife, Helen Turner Donaldson, and her mother, Mary Opal Turner. He met his wife while in the Army in Arkansas. The scholarship is awarded to students with evidence of need, who demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership skills. First preference is given to students who are graduates of Scranton (Ark.) High School.
Ed and LaDonna Wilkinson Scholarship
Established by Ed and LaDonna Wilkinson in 2016, it provides scholarships to students who have demonstrated need, with preference given to members of the Presbyterian Church. UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS

Ed Dell Wortz Scholarship
Established in 2021 from the Estate of Ed Dell Wortz to assist students with financial need.
Edgar WoolseyF.D.Goza Endowed Masonic Scholarship
In 1990, Scottish Rite Bodies and the Arkansas Scottish Rite Foundations contributed funds to establish the Edgar Woolsey-F.D. Goza Endowed Masonic Scholarship. Student shall be a Mason or masonic related. Awarded to students with good moral character and demonstrated need. If no masons are available, the money may be awarded to another needy student.
Edsel Ford Scholarship
Edsel Ford was the son of automobile maker Henry Ford. Given to students based on financial need.
Edward M. Parker Memorial Scholarship
Established in February of 1981 by a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Parker in memory of Thomas’ father. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Eugene and Vera Pfeffer Endowed Scholarship
Friends of Ozarks since the early 1950s through the Presbyterian Church in Ponca City, Okla., Eugene and Vera Pfeffer were friends of Sam and Helen Walton. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Eugene Kraus Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1982 by his daughter, Sue Ferree, for Eugene Kraus ’31. Awarded to students with financial need.
Everett F. Lingle Memorial Scholarship
Everette Lingle ’38 played football at Ozarks and attended on scholarships. He knew the importance of scholarships. He owned an independent oil operation in Houston. The scholarship was established in 2006 from his estate.
First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, New Jersey Endowed Scholarship
Gifts from Dr. Robert L. Veon, pastor. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Florence L. Burger Scholarship
Established in 1988.
Florence Pickering Cully Memorial
Dr. Cully, D.D.S., established the fund in memory of his mother.
Fontaine Earle Endowed Scholarship
Founded by a grandson in memory of the first president of Cane Hill College. Scholarship was established with a trust in 1976 and funded upon his death in 1996.
Frances Fischer Coleman Memorial Scholarship
Established 2010, from the Frances Fisher Coleman Memorial Trust. Awarded to students who are communicant members of either the Presbyterian Church (USA) or Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Based on financial need.
Francis de Ronald Park Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1987 by Milford and Betty Park in memory of his late brother, Francis DeRonald Park. The basis of the award is Christian character and good citizenship and financial need.
Frank P. Collins Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1990 from the trust of Frank P. Collins.
Fritz and Juanita Ehren Endowed Scholarship
Established in December 1990 by various Board of Trustee members in honor of Dr. Ehren’s retirement as U of O President. Awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.

George Sherlock Student Scholarship
Named in honor of 1975 Ozarks graduate George Sherlock, a mathematics major. Awarded to a student who shows exceptional service to the University and who is active in campus life.
Harmony Presbyterian Church Scholarship
Established in September 2018 by The Rev. Tracy Julian Williams, a former pastor of Harmony Presbyterian Church. The scholarship will provide funds to student(s) with a demonstrated financial need; first preference given to a student from the Harmony community; second preference to a resident of Johnson County; and who has dedicated their life to Christian service.
Harold and Jimmie Lewis Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1999 by local businessman and his wife to support Ozarks. They were both very active in the Clarksville community, including Ozarks. Awarded to students based on their financial need and academic performance. This scholarship shall follow students throughout their stay at Ozarks providing they meet the minimum requirements.
Henry Townsend Wilson, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Mrs. Francis Wilson to memorialize Henry Townsend Wilson, Jr. and to commemorate his special relationship to his brother, Tommy Wilson. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Homer and Emma Atkinson Memorial Scholarship
Established by Naomi Atkinson Newman in 2013 in honor of her parents.
Howard E. and Eileen A. Covington Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1985, it is awarded to full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Ida E. Harber Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1989 from the trust of Mr. Raymond Harber to honor his wife. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Izola Taylor Memorial Endowment
Established in 2020 by the estate of J.L. and Cora E. Adkins.
J.T. and Lucile Patterson Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the Board of Trustees to honor Dr. Patterson, who served as business manager of the University from 1943-1982. For full-time students with financial need.
Jack Patterson Scholarship
Established in 1999 by gifts from friends of Dr. Patterson to celebrate his 25 years as a medical doctor. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
James C. Bell Endowed Scholarship
James Bell ’37 taught and recruited for Ozarks from 1947-1950. This scholarship was established by his estate in 2004.
James T. Rhea Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1996 through the trust of James T. Rhea. He supported Presbyterian related charities. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Joe Hoing Scholarship
The Joe Hoing Scholarship Endowment was established in 2021 by family, friends and alumni who knew and loved Joe Hoing. The long-time U of O Dean of Students had a positive and enduring impact on hundreds of former Ozarks students, faculty and staff in his 30-year career as an administrator and instructor at Ozarks. A two-time recipient of the Broyles Outstanding Staff Award, Hoing provided a daily dose of encouragement, support, comfort, advice and friendship to students and colleagues alike on campus. His sense of humor, kindness and good nature will forever be remembered by those who knew him. The former All-American football player was truly the Big Man on Campus. The scholarship(s) will be awarded to students who have completed at least 30 earned credits with a 3.0 GPA or higher. John E. & Evie Tate Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2006 by long-time Board of Trustees member and Ozarks supporter John Tate.
John K. & Grace Bennett Burney Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1980 from the trust of John K. Burney and funded upon the death of Mrs. Burney in 1992. To be awarded to a junior or senior student who has financial need and is making successful progress toward completion of a degree.
Joseph H. Field Scholarship
Mr. Field’s nephew attended Ozarks in the 1960s and was so pleased with his education that he established a scholarship. Given to a student based on need and scholastic ability.
Kathleen T. & Philip B. Phillips M.D. Endowment
Established in 1993 by Philip Phillips. He was proud and grateful for the opportunities Ozarks gave him. Scholarship to be awarded to a junior student to assist with expenses in the fourth year of school.
Lavina Woods Adams Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1978.
Lee and Lou (Mom and Pop) Bush Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1983 by Wallace ’40 and Carolyn Bush ’42 Dobbins in memory of her mother and father. “Mom and Pop” Bush always opened their home to Ozarks students with food, a place to stay and encouragement in the 1930s. Awarded based on Christian character, good citizenship, financial need, and academic endeavor.
Lorraine S. and Olive M. Black Endowed Scholarship
R. K. Black established the Olive M. Black Scholarship in 1979 in memory of his mother. Then in 1985, he established the Lorraine S. Black Scholarship in memory of his late wife. The two funds were combined. R.K. was an Oklahoma business leader and a generous friend to Ozarks. This scholarship is given on the basis of worthiness and need to a student who shows excellent promise of future development and who has high moral standards.
Louise Taylor Scholarship
Established through Louise Taylor’s estate in 2015.
Lura Waters Gillispie Endowed Scholarship
Established in April of 1997 by Roy and Lura Gillispie. Provides work scholarship to students who contribute to their education through work opportunities on campus.
Mary Elizabeth Vaughan Shipley Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2006 from the trust of Mary V. Shipley ’42. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wortz Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1984 by former Board of Trustees member Ms. Ed Dell Wortz in memory of her mother and father. Ed Dell was a strong advocate for the University for many years. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Nellie Dobson Endowment
Established in 2020 by the estate of J.L. and Cora E. Adkins.
Norman Huneycutt Endowed Scholarship
Established by a gift from The Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Norman N. Huneycutt, a University trustee, on December 20, 1988. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Opal Farris Cox and Mary Farris Bible '87 Scholarship
Established in 2021 from the trust of Opal Farris Cox to assist students with financial need.
Paul H. Ragon Endowed Scholarship
Mr. Ragon’s family had a lifetime relationship with Clarksville and U of O. For full-time students with financial need.

Established by Mrs. Crickard’s estate in 1992. To provide for students with financial need.
Peter Davidson Herlin (Lt. Comdr.) Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1993 by Pete and Elizabeth Herlin in memory of their son. The choir toured in their area and they had students stay with them. They enjoyed and remembered that with such fondness. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Pizza Hut Partnership Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1982 by corporate office and awarded to a full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Placek Family Endowment
Established in 2021 by R. Scott Placek to provide scholarship funds with first preference to graduates of United States high schools who received English Language Learner (ELL)services in middle school or high school. If no eligible recipient, then a student from Texas with a recognized financial need. R. Scott Placek is the managing partner of Arnold, Placek & Foerster, PC, an Austin, Texas insurance and commercial litigation law firm that Scott cofounded in 2003. A graduate of Auburn University (B.S. 1987), and the University of Texas School of Law (J.D. 1992), Scott’s connection with University of the Ozarks began in 1996 as its first soccer coach, starting both the men’s and women’s soccer programs. Combining a teaching appointment in the College of Business, Government and Communications with his coaching, Scott was a true proponent of the concept of the student-athlete, and his teams regularly included many academic scholarship recipients and Academic All-Conference performers. After working to have a women’s coach hired so that each team had a head coach to focus full attention on the team, Scott guided the men’s team to their first winning record in 1998, finishing 10-8-2 with a team composed only of freshmen and sophomores. Following the 1998 season, Scott returned to the practice of law in Texas, continuing to coach in youth select programs and serve in leadership roles in various local and national soccer organizations.

Established by a gift from Martha Rice in 1998. Provides scholarships to students based on their financial need.
R. K. and Bessie Rodgers Memorial Scholarship
In memory of R. K. Rodgers and his wife, Bessie Howard Rodgers. Established by R. K. Rodgers, who served on the Board of Trustees from 1934 until his death in 1982.
R. S. Boreham Endowed Scholarship
Established Sept. 28, 1984, through a gift from Roland S. Boreham, a former trustee of Ozarks and a founder of Baldor Electic Co. of Fort Smith, Ark.
Reader's Digest Foundation Endowed Scholarship
Established in the early 1970s by DeWitt and Lila Wallace to invest in communities and children. Given to two students on the basis of academic promise and citizenship.
Richard C. Charsha Endowment
Established in 2020 by the estate of J.L. and Cora E. Adkins.
Robert K. Osterberg Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1979 by Mrs. E.N. Osterberg in memory of her son who was killed in World War II. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Robert L. King, Jr, & Eleanor Parker King Endowed Scholarship
Established in September 2006. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Roland S. Boreham Scholarship

Established in 1993 with a gift from the Roller family. For full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
Sarah Alston Garside Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1990 by the family of Clarksville native Sarah Alston Garside. Awarded to a student who maintains at least a 3.0 GPA and is of good character.
Scevoy D. BarnesCarol Barnes Joyce Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2003 by Scevoy ’37 and Carol Barnes Joyce ’56. First consideration for this scholarship will be given to Ozarks student(s) who are graduates of Mansfield (Ark.) High School.
University of the Ozarks Women Endowed Scholarship
Established in May of 1991 with a gift from the University of the Ozarks Women. Awarded to a student with high moral character and who demonstrates financial need. Must have earned at least 30 hours with a 3.0 GPA.
Virginia Laster Williams and Bruce H. Williams Scholarship
Established to honor two members of the Class of 1943. Bruce served as alumni class secretary from 1978-2006 and was recognized in 1993 with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Together they received the 2006 Legacy Award. Awarded to promising students with a recognized financial need.
W. Roy & Edith Brunk Vaughan Endowment
Established September 1993 through the estate of Edith Brunk Vaughan to grant scholarships to worthy students with need.
Wal-Mart Scholarship
Established in 1981 by Walmart to honor the founding of Arkansas’ first institute of higher education.
Whitney & Hazel Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Established through an estate gift by Hazel Johnson in memory of her husband. The Johnson County residents wanted to help students with their education. Awarded to deserving students on the basis of personal and academic potential and need.
Whitson Family Scholarship
Established in 2003 by the grandchildren of Harold ’34 and Pearl ’35 Whitson in their memory. Longtime residents and supporters of Ozarks. Given to students with a financial need.
Wilber & Tessie Peden Demby and John Joseph (Joe) Conrad & June Demby Conrad Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of those named in the scholarship by a trust. Awarded to sophomores, juniors and seniors with a 3.0 or above GPA and who are in good standing with the University.
Wiley Lin Hurie Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was established by Mrs. Hurie in memory of her husband, the Rev. Dr. Wiley Lin Hurie, who served as president of Ozarks from 1923-1949. Dr. Hurie was described as “spiritual, studious, persevering, conscientious and earnest, and deserving of success.” This award is given to a dedicated student with high moral standards. This award recognizes the most outstanding graduating senior, and the recipient is selected by the faculty. This is the highest award an Ozarks student may receive.
William & Ruth Harlan Sissel Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2010 by William and Ruth Sissel.
Wilson-Holder Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2007 by William and Jane Holder, both faithful Ozarks alumni. Awarded to students with evidence of need and who demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership.
Winslow & Dorothy Drummond Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was given in memory of Mrs. Dorothy Drummond, wife of Dr. Winslow S. Drummond, who served as president of Ozarks from 1953-1960. Awarded to a dedicated student with high moral standards.

BUSINESS, COMMUNICATION & GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS Ada Parks Mills Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established in memory of Ada Parks Mills ’33 by her family. Ada and her husband, Joe, founded and operated several businesses in Arkansas, Kansas and Texas. They were the first couple married in Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel in 1933. Awarded to business administration students.
Bob and Lil Prillaman Endowed Scholarship
Established by J.P. Boone on Oct. 23, 1987, to honor his dear friends Bob and Lil Prillaman. Awarded to a student with high moral character and who is a marketing major.
Ethel J. Powell Oral Communications Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Susan Crowder in honor of Ethel Powell’s work in various areas of the campus. Ethel Powell was a 1979 graduate of Ozarks. This award is for a student who has shown facility in oral communication.
H. Lee Thrash Scholarship
Established by J.P. Boone in honor of his dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. H. Lee Thrash, III. Awarded to a business administration major who displays high moral character and financial need.
James W. Perrett Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. James W. Perrett, a former chairman of the Division of Business Administration at Ozarks. To be awarded to a business student.

Established with a gift on August 25, 1983 by Davis and Geck of Wayne, N.J., for students studying sales and marketing. In memory of the 1964 Ozarks graduate.
Kenneth R. and Bernice Douglas McFerran Scholarship
Established by Kenneth ’63, who played football at Ozarks, and Bernice, who took classes at the college while working in the Business Office for J.T. Patterson. Scholarship is for business majors who have demonstrated financial need.
Michael A. Rail Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2007 by former U of O Board of Trustees member Bill Rail and his wife, Maxine, in memory of their son Michael. Awarded to students majoring in business.
Paul and Juanita Vaughn Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Juanita Vaughn established the scholarship in 1994 in memory of her husband, Paul, a 1952 Ozarks business graduate. To be given to a student majoring in business.
Phil Taylor Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2004 in memory of Phil Taylor by his wife, Joanne, and son, Philip. A lifelong Johnson County resident and local business man, Phil was a 1954 alumnus who died in 2002. Preference is given to students who have accumulated 20 or more credit hours, with a 2.5 GPA.
R. K. Black Memorial Scholarship
Established by the children of R.K. Black in his memory in 2003. To provide scholarships to students on the basis of financial need and/or academic merit who are majoring in business.
Rawhouser Family Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2005 by alumnus and Board of Trustees member David Rawhouser ’69 and his wife, Jill, to honor their parents. Awarded to business students with financial need.
Ray Hobbs Business Scholarship
Established in January 2017 by Ray Hobbs ’77 in appreciation for the excellent way the business department and Dr. James Perrett worked with him to get a great start with a successful career. This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in business administration.

Raymond and Lorena Bean Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2006 in memory of Raymond and Lorena Bean by their children, Arvid Bean, Edward Bean, Rena Howe and Loyce Ann Taylor. Awarded to an entering freshmen who demonstrates strong academic performance and leadership skills in high school and in their community. This scholarship is for students who are pursuing a degree in business or business education.
Reuben Hartsel Fraley Scholarship
Established in memory of Reuben Harsel Fraley by his wife Lorena Blakemore Fraley ’39 and children Margaret Glenn Fraley Beilby, Phillip Laren Fraley and James Blakemore Fraley. Awarded to student who is a communication major.
Robert E. Hudson Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2010 by Mary Lou Hyde ’75 in memory of her brother Robert Earl Hudson ’69. Awarded to a student majoring in business administration from Clarksville, Ark.
Stephen Robert Thornton Memorial Scholarship
This award was established by Steve Thornton’s parents, Robert and Frieda Thornton, as a memorial for their only child who passed away in 1979. Awarded to a business student.
Woodrow W. and Vivien Magness Scholarship
Established in December of 1999, with a gift from the W.W. Magness Family Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust. Awarded to students majoring in business, communication or government who demonstrate leadership qualities and financial need.

Established in 2006 by the estate of Catherine Haigwood ’30, a long-time supporter of Ozarks and lifetime teacher. Awarded to education majors.
Chris and Martha Allen Scholarship Endowment for Teacher Education
Established in July 2018 by Chris and Martha Allen. The scholarship will be provided to students at University of the Ozarks with first preference being students from Johnson County, Arkansas, majoring or minoring in teacher education, or seeking non-traditional certification to teach. The scholarship is for students who have demonstrated financial need and are within 24 months of graduation/teacher-certification.
Don and Eva Davis Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1974 in honor of former U of O President Dr. Don Davis by students of Ozarks. Given on the basis of worthiness and need to a student who shows excellent promise of future development in teacher education.
Earle and Marie Hughes Scholarship
Established March 21, 1991, through the will of Earle and Marie Hughes. Awarded to students majoring in physical education and elementary education.
Edna Elkins Patterson '67 and John S. Patterson Education Scholarship
Established in January 2018 by Edna Elkins Patterson ’67 and her husband John S. Patterson. Edna served over 35 years as an elementary school teacher and media specialist in the Clarksville Elementary School. Scholarship will be awarded to an education major who has demonstrated financial need.
Era King Award Endowment
This endowment was established in honor of Era King, a lifelong teacher, by Jay Blackburn, a 1931 graduate of Ozarks. This scholarship award is given to a future teacher who shows promise in the field of teaching and commitment to the next generation of students.
F. Willard Ralston Scholarship
Ethel P. Ralston established this scholarship in 2001 in memory of her husband, F. Willard Ralston, a 1929 chemistry graduate from Ozarks. To be awarded to a student or students majoring in physical education or certifying in secondary education.

Established in honor of the 1931 alumnus and former Ozarks football coach and health professor. Awarded to physical education major who shows promise of professional achievement.
Gregg Parker & Georgia Parker Ellsworth Endowed Scholarship
Established in May of 1997 from a gift annuity. To provide scholarships for students who are working toward careers in youth work organizations.
Harve and May Mills Taylor Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2009 in memory of Harve and May Mills Taylor by their sons, Tom and Harve Taylor. The Taylors were life-long Clarksville residents who had a long affiliation with Ozarks. This scholarship is awarded to an education major who is in good standing with the University.
Helen Frances Brown Endowed Scholarship
Established through the estate of Helen Frances Brown in August 1999. Given to a student in the Education Department.
Jimmie, Ailene and Laura Thames Scholarship
The Rev. Dr. Jimmie and Mrs. Aileen Thames established this endowment to honor Jimmie’s first wife, Laura Anne, who passed away in 1979. The Rev. Thames was a retired Presbyterian minister and a 1953 graduate of Ozarks. Three of his children also graduated from Ozarks. Awarded to a sophomore or junior psychology or education major.
John E. and Joyzelle Bock Memorial Scholarship
John E. Bock ’49 was a PE and education major at Ozarks. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his masters degree in education administration and spent 35 years as an educator, principal and superintendent. He passed away on Nov. 18, 2002. Joyzelle Bock passed away in 1991. To be awarded to a junior or senior teacher education major who shows promise and commitment as a future classroom teacher and demonstrates exemplary character through involvement in University Chapel programs or local congregation.
Mackie McElree Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in December of 1998 by gifts from Helen McElree and Charles McElree in honor of their mother, Mackie McElree. First preference for recipients are those majoring in education or science, dedicated to learning, and committed to a career in teaching science or a scientific field.
Margaret Figliulo Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established in October of 2022 by Maura Figliulo Howerton as faithful testimony to the life journey of the Figliulo family and as a memorial for Margaret Figliulo. First preference for recipients is a female student majoring in education. Then a female student with a recognized financial need. The Figliulos are a University of the Ozarks Legacy Family spanning five decades. Mary Ann Weatherton S. Turley '54 Scholarship

William Carroll and Catherine Rogers Bumpers Scholarship
Catherine “Bitsy” Rogers Bumpers grew up in Clarksville and attended Ozarks. She met her husband while at college. They both were so grateful for their education and she wanted to memorialize her husband with an endowment. For an Arkansas high school graduate majoring in teacher education.
HUMANITIES & FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS Altes Fine Arts Endowed Scholarship
Established by Diana McCormick and her mother, Evelyn H. Altes. Diana graduated from Ozarks in 1965 and was employed as a JLC coordinator from 1980 until her retirement in 2010. This scholarship is awarded to an upperclass fine arts student.
Carroll H. Rowbotham Endowed Scholarship
Carroll was a Clarksville native and considered himself a serious amateur photographer. Also a sculptor in metal and cement. The Rowbotham family has been associated with Ozarks for many generations. Awarded to juniors or seniors with evidence of financial need who are majoring in the visual arts.
Charles Angell Endowed Scholarship
Established as a memorial by his wife, Dorothy Angell, Dr. Charles Angell was head of the Humanities Department from 1962-1979. He was a much loved professor of English and Religion at Ozarks. This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in humanities or in a fine arts-related major.
Edna Ralston Bowman Scholarship
Established in July of 1999 by a gift from Edna R. Bowman, a 1928 graduate of U of O. To be given to a student taking courses in the fine arts and humanities and who is in need of financial assistance. First consideration to music majors and second consideration to other humanities majors.
Ella and Frank B. White Endowment
Named in honor of Ella and Frank White. Given to a student who makes the highest GPA in English and Bible studies.
Ethel Adkins Farmer Memorial Scholarship
Established by Gladys Ruth Farmer in memory of her mother, Ethel Adkins. Awarded to students majoring in theater.
Frances and Thomas Wilson Scholarship
Established in 2012 by Frances E. Wilson in memory of her husband, Tommy. Awarded to students in good standing who major in an area of humanities and fine arts, with first preference being to those interested in creative writing.
Gladys Hensley Engle Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Frances Wilson, a great friend of Ozarks, to provide scholarships to students in good standing, based on need or merit, who intend to major in the fine arts and humanities. First preference is music and theatre students.
Lewis H. and Dortha J. Geyer Niece Endowed Scholarship
Established by Lewis H. Niece and his son, Dr. Rick D. Niece, in memory of wife and mother, Dortha Geyer Niece. Awarded to performing arts and/or communication students.
Lily Hulse Ralston Scholarship
Lily Hulse Ralston graduated Ozarks in 1929 with a major in English. This scholarship was established in her memory by her daughter, Edna Ralston Bowman, who graduated in 1928. Awarded to a humanities and fine arts student.
Lynda A. Stephenson Endowed Scholarship
Established as a gift from Dr. C. Gene Stephenson for Lynda A. Stephenson during the holiday season of December 2018. Dr. Stephenson served as Chief Operating Officer from January 1990 to January 1991. The Stephenson’s led the campus as President and First Lady from January 1991 through January 1997, culminating with the construction of two new buildings and three remodeled buildings in the $19 million Bridging the Century Campaign. The scholarship will provide support to a deserving student, first preference being an English major.

Established in 2003 by Marie Ingram ’33 and her daughter and son-in-law, Mira Ann ’63 and Marv Leister. Awarded to juniors or seniors majoring in humanities or fine arts from Arkansas.
Susie Maude Pittman Endowed Theatre Scholarship
Established in 1987 by the Laureate Kappa PL 1089 chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and University Players in honor of Susie Maude Pittman, who led the Ozarks theatre program for more than 30 years.
Theodore 'Taz' Beard IV Scholarship
Established by family, friends and alumni who knew and loved Taz. Taz attended Ozarks and was set to graduate in May of 2015, however passed away prior to his graduation date. Because he had earned credits needed to complete his degree before passing, he was recognized for this achievement and graduated posthumously. He was an active student on campus with many talents in art, athletics and academia. To provide scholarship(s) for students in need with preference given to students engaged in art and further that if a lineal descendant of Theodore “Taz” Roosevelt Beard IV attends University of the Ozarks, then they shall be given first preference as to the awarding of the scholarship(s).
JOHNSON COUNTY SCHOLARSHIPS Elizabeth Frances Sharp Watson '38 Endowed Scholarship
Established by a gift in 1998 from each of Elizabeth’s five children in memory of their mother. First preference is to be given to a students from Johnson County or Henderson and Warren Counties in Illinois. Second preference is to be given to students maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA. Third preference to descendants of Milan E. and E. Frances Sharp Watson.

Established by Doris Bird in memory of her husband, Huie. The Birds have been long-time residents and business owners in Johnson County and supporters of the University. Awarded to students from Johnson County who have a demonstrated financial need.
Joe Curtis Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1986 by Jo Lewis in honor and memory of her parents. Awarded to students with a 3.0 GPA who is from Johnson County, or adjacent county, and who has demonstrated need.
Johnson-Knoop Foundation Endowed Scholarship
Established in the 1970s by local business owner E.K. Johnson of Eureka Brick and Tile of Clarksville and Werner C. Knoop of Little Rock. Awarded to a deserving student residing in Johnson County.
Ruth B. White Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1986 by J.T. White in honor of his wife, Ruth. Awarded to students with at least a 2.5 GPA and who show financial need. Preference given to students from Johnson County
Travis Bryan Business Scholarship
Established in 1995 in memory of Travis Bryan by his wife and children. Bryan was a longtime Clarksville resident and owner of Family Shoe Store. Awarded to a business student from Johnson County, or adjacent county, with financial need.
Vivian Misenhimer Endowed Scholarship for Johnson County Students
Established in 1999 by Anne Crofoot, Daveda Misenhimer, and Frances Petite to honor their aunt. Awarded to students from Johnson County with demonstrated financial need.
Wesley Garrett Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1994 by the descendants of Wesley Garrett, one of the first settlers in Johnson County and who was instrumental in building the town of Clarksville and the local Presbyterian Church. Awarded to a deserving and needy student, with first preference given to Johnson County residents.

Yandell Family Scholarship
Established by Dr. Carol Yandell, who served as a professor of education for 22 years at Ozarks and who was a beloved member of the University family. She established the scholarship with a cancer policy she had and died less than 2 months later. Awarded to students with financial need with first preference given to Johnson County students enrolled in the Pat Walker Teacher Education Program.
JONES LEARNING CENTER SCHOLARSHIPS Bill and Juanita Ballard Scholarship
This endowment stands to honor Bill Ballard, Class of 1956, and his late wife, Juanita, for their 38 years of wonderful marriage, filled with God, love, family and travel. Awarded to students who use the services of the JLC and who demonstrate financial need.
Debbie Williams Scholarship
Established in August 2017 from gifts from family and friends in memory of Debbie Williams ’81. Debbie served Ozarks and its students in the Jones Learning Center for 34 years. This scholarship(s) will be awarded to students utilizing the Jones Learning Center with first preference given to a student from Johnson County.
Dylan Hill Memorial Scholarship
Established by family and friends in memory of Dylan Hill, a 2015 graduate and beloved JLC student who died in a plane crash in 2016.
Elizabeth D. Broadway Scholarship
Established by Chris and Cathy Broadway to honor their daughter, Elizabeth. Awarded to students in their sophomore, junior or senior years who are utilizing the services of the JLC and who display a desire to attain a college degree and who show initiative and hard work in the classroom.
Elizabeth Eisenmayer Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established from gifts given to the school in memory of Elizabeth Marie Eisenmayer, a JLC student who was killed in a car accident in the spring of 1996. She was pursuing a career as a teacher of handicapped children through art and music therapy. The scholarship is awarded to a student using the services of the JLC.
Frederickson Family Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Philip and Jayne Frederickson in honor of their son, Scott, who used the JLC and had what his parents called “a complete education from Ozarks.” They wanted to help others using the JLC and the scholarship is given to students enrolled in the JLC, and who show dedication.
Harvey and Bernice Jones Endowed Scholarship
Established Sept. 13, 1982, by Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stephens. Awarded to JLC students who have specific learning disabilities.
Jake Tull Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by family and friends in memory of Jake Tull, a JLC student majoring in environmental studies who died in 2009 shortly after climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya. Awarded to students who use the services of the JLC.
James "Trey" Butler, III Endowed Scholarship
Established by Jim Tom and Connie Belle Butler in honor of their grandson, Trey, upon his graduation in 2013. Provides scholarships to students in good standing at the JLC who have a financial need, with first preference being students from Poinsett County, Arkansas, and second preference being students from anywhere in the state of Arkansas.
Kenneth and Virginia Mosley Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2009 by Kenneth and Virginia’s son, Jerry Mosley, of Pawhuska, Okla., this scholarship is awarded to a JLC student.
Learning Center 25th Anniversary Scholarship
Established by a gift from the Charles A. Frueauff Foundation, and a few individuals in December of 1996. This scholarship is to be given to a student who uses the services of the JLC.
New York Times/ KFSM-TV Scholarship
Established in February of 1996 through a gift from The New York Times Co. Foundation. To be awarded to a JLC student majoring in communications.

Pearl H. Crickard Learning Disabilities Scholarship
Established in 1992 by her estate. Pearl had a great empathy for persons with learning difficulties. Awarded to students utilizing services in the Jones Learning Center.
Sarah Carlin Graves Endowed Scholarship
Established from gifts in memory of Sarah Carlin Graves, a JLC student who had a severe learning disability which prevented her from attaining academic success in school, according to her parents, James and Karen Graves. However, once she enrolled in the Learning Center at Ozarks, she blossomed, earning a BA in Social Studies, getting accepted into graduate school and winning the love and respect of her fellow students and teachers. Sarah died in a car accident shortly after graduating from Ozarks in 1985. Awarded to students who use the services of the JLC.
Shelli Stewart Lamberson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2001 by Shelli Lamberson’s family and friends. Shelli worked as the school psychology intern in the JLC from 20002001. She had a deep compassion and genuine concern for the needs and well being of the students with whom she worked. Shelli died in a car accident on June 2, 2001. The scholarship is for students who use the services of the JLC.
Sturgis Foundation Scholarships
Established through foundation created by Arkansan Christine Sturgis in 1981 in her estate. Given to deserving students with specific learning disabilities.
Sue Darby Gaston Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2008 by the family of Sue Darby Gaston in her memory. The Darby and Gaston families have a long history with Ozarks. Awarded to students in the JLC who demonstrate a financial need.
Sue Frueauff Endowed Scholarship
Established in December 2017 to honor Mrs. Sue Frueauff. Sue has provided instrumental leadership and support while serving on the Board of Trustees. The scholarship will be awarded to students utilizing services from the Jones Learning Center.
Will Ladner Scholarship
Established in 2012 by alumnus Will Ladner ’81, who utilized the JLC and was grateful for the assistance. Awarded to students in good standing and who are enrolled in the JLC.
Willard and Pat Walker Learning Disabilities Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1991 by Northwest Arkansas philanthropists Willard and Pat Walker, long-time supporters of Ozarks. This scholarship is for students using services of the JLC.
William Randolph Hearst Scholarship
Established with a gift from the Hearst Foundation in 1997, this scholarship is for students of the JLC who have a need.

In memory of Albert L. Looper, a 1939 graduate. Awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in medicine.
Arch Gould Scholarship
Established on Sept. 8, 1994, through the estate of Arch Gould. To assist students majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, or environmental sciences.
Callie Harmon Daniels and Kurtis James Daniels Math and Science Scholarship
Established by alumna Callie (Harmon) Daniels ’89 and her husband, Kurtis, in 2015 to encourage students who are majoring in mathematics or sciences. Preference given to students from Arkansas or surrounding states.

This endowment was established in June of 2023 as a memorial for Dr. William Ernest King, Jr. and Maribeth Mallory King. Preference given to a student majoring in Chemistry or field in the Sciences.
Ernestine "Tina" Hogan ThurmanSwartzwelder Scholarship in Science
This science award was established through a gift from Dr. J. Clyde Swartzwelder in 1987. The scholarship was named in memory of his wife, Tina, who was a 1944 graduate of Ozarks. Dr. Swartzwelder was a professor of medical parasitology at Louisiana State University. Awarded to a student in science.
Irving T. Beach Chemistry Award
The award was established in 1976 by Dr. Alvin C. Broyles and the Class of 1941 to honor Dr. Irving T. Beach, a professor of chemistry and chairman of the Chemistry Department at Ozarks from 1939-1960. Given to an outstanding junior science major.
John W. Talley Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2005 by Sarah C. Talley in memory of her late husband, John W. Talley ’43. Preference given to students with 30 or more credit hours and pursuing science or mathematics.
Julia Anne Hicks Scholarship
Established in 2012 by Virginia Hicks in memory of her sister, Julia Anne Hicks. Preference given to students who plan to major in mathematics.
Morris Wayne Pearson (Col.) Scholarship
Established in January 2018 by Morris Pearson ’53. Morris received his degree in mathematics and physics and went on to serve as an engineer in the United State Air Force from 1953-1976. This scholarship is awarded to a mathematics major who has demonstrated financial need and resides in Johnson County.
Ruby Steuart Reynolds Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2004 by Dr. Kenneth and Janette Stewart to honor Dr. Ruby Steuart Reynolds. Preference given to biology students with 30 or more credit hours and GPA over 2.5.
T.L. and Lois Smith Endowed Scholarship
Established in honor of T.L. “Prof” Smith and his wife, Lois. Prof Smith was a beloved biology professor and administrator at Ozarks for more than 50 years. Lois, was a 1926 Ozarks graduate with a degree in English and went on to become one of the states first female superintendents. Awarded to an incoming freshman biology major or preprofessional student.
Thomas & Frances Wilson Endowed Math & Sciences Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Frances E. Wilson to assist students who are majoring in an area of mathematics or science.
Virginia Rose Hicks Chemistry Scholarship
Established in 2017 by the estate of Virginia R. Hicks, this scholarship is for students majoring or minoring in chemistry.
Wayne and Betty Workman Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2004 by Dr. Wayne and Betty Workman. Dr. Workman is a Lifetime Board of Trustees for Ozarks. The scholarship is awarded to students preferably in the pre-medical sciences curriculum. The students shall demonstrate financial need. To qualify for the scholarship the student shall maintain a grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Willie and Carolyn Kimbrell Endowed Scholarship
Established by Ozarks registrar Wilma Harris to honor her parents, scholarship is awarded to students majoring in mathematics and who have demonstrated need.

MINORITY SCHOLARSHIPS Black Alumni Assocation Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1992 by the U of O Black Alumni Association for educational and charitable purposes to assist financially disadvantaged and deserving African-American men and women in pursuit of education leading to a bachelor’s degree. Awarded to African-American students who have at least a 3.0 GPA, ACT of 18 or above, and have a financial need.
Ethel T. McCarthy Scholarship for American Indian Students
Established in 1980 by Ethel McCarthy of Pasadena, Calif., who attended Ozarks from 1934-1936. Given to a Native-American student who demonstrates financial need and who is working at least part-time.
Smith-Skinner Native American Endowed Scholarship
Established by Rev. W. Wirt Skinner and his wife, L. Torpy Skinner, to honor his aunt, uncle and parents, Jim and Jo Skinner, and Mary and Arthur Smith. Award to be chosen by the faculty on the basis of need and merit to a NativeAmerican student.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS Ashley C. and Eleanor M. Thomas Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2006 with funding from stock transfers, Charitable Gift Annuity held by Presbyterian Foundation (U.S.A.) and remainder interest in the Estate of Ashley C. and Eleanor M. Thomas. The scholarship will be awarded to students in need of financial assistance as determined by the University's Financial Aid Office for tuition-only scholarships. Recipient preference will be given to a student who is a Music Major or Business Major.
Bill and Bettye Masterson Aydelott Music Scholarship
Established in November 2017 by Bill Aydelott ’53. This endowment stands as testimony to the faith journey of Bill and Bettye Masterson Aydelott who were active in their service to the Lord through their music ministry at First Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma and to their community. The scholarship is provided to a music student who has demonstrated financial need.
Hans A. Norberg Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Lillian B. Norberg in memory of her husband, Hans A. Norberg, a former member of the University Board of Trustees who loved instrumental music. Awarded to a student who is active in music.
Jesse Calvin (Pancho) & Wayma Sue Workman Rowe Scholarship
Established in 2020 from the trust of Jesse Calvin (Pancho) and Wayma Sue Workman Rowe. The scholarship will provide assistance to music major(s) with demonstrated financial need. First preference will be given to those pursuing organ or church music.
Latt and Ila King Memorial Scholarship
Given by an anonymous donor through the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, Ark., in memory of Lattie and Illa (Baskin) King. Provides an annual scholarship for one voice student who shows promise and has financial need.
Lucille Riddle Goldsmith Memorial Scholarship
This award is in memory of Lucille Riddle Goldsmith, who was born and raised in Johnson County. After graduating Ozarks in 1932, she began a long teaching career in music. This scholarship is awarded to a dedicated student who is majoring in English or pipe organ training.
Marian Riddell Cargile Memorial Music Scholarship
Established in 2002 by Lt. Col. John Cargile ’61 in memory of his wife. They met while attending Ozarks and he spent his life devoted to her. Provides scholarships to music majors.
Marilyn Hiatt Hudgens Music Scholarship
Created in 1992 by Daniel Hignight and the Presbyterian Church of Crossett, Ark., and friends, in memory of Marilyn Hudgens, who passed away in 2000. The scholarship is to encourage and assist students to become trained church musicians.

May Katherine Baker Music Scholarship
Established by the estate of May Katherine Baker in 2013. Recipients of this scholarship shall be residents of Arkansas who have graduated from an Arkansas high school. A cumulative high school GPA of 3.00 and a major in music required.
Pearl H. Crickard Endowed Music Scholarship
Established in March 1992 through the estate of Ms. Pearl H. Crickard. Awarded to students pursuing a music degree.
Sula K. Benson Music Scholarship
Established in 1979 by Mrs. Ernest C. Bateman of Ozark, Ark., in memory of Sula Kate Benson, who died in 1978. Awarded to a music major.
William E. Borland Piano Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. William E. Borland, an instructor of music at the University in the 1970s and 1980s who passed away in 1987. Awarded to a student having a strong academic, keyboard potential and financial need.
REGIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS Doug Black Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2020 by members of the Board of Trustees, friends, alumni, and family who came together as one to create this endowment in recognition of Doug's leadership and love of Ozarks. His passion for, and work on behalf of, the University's' students is exemplary of the finest Ozarks tradition. Scholarships will be provided to students with demonstrated financial need, with preference given to students from southern Arkansas.
Elizabeth H. and Stanley E. Evans Endowed Scholarship
Established December 30, 1983 by a gift from the Elizabeth H. & Stanley E. Evans Foundation, and is to be awarded to a worthy student from the Fort Smith, Ark. area.
J.L. Adkins and Cora E. Adkins Scholarship
Established in 2020 by the estate of J.L. and Cora E. Adkins. The scholarship will be provided to students at University of the Ozarks with first preference being from the Counties of Dunklin, Stoddard and New Madrid, Missouri in pursue of a degree in education or fine arts.
Jeff and Agnes Fincher Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1991 by Dr. & Mrs. Bobby Fincher to honor his parents, who were raised in Clarksville. Recipients must have graduated in the top quarter of their high school class from Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Texas no earlier than 17 months prior to the beginning of the fall term for which scholarship is sought; must plan to major in English, foreign language, history, math, or music; not have more than 15 hours from any college; & be a full-time student.
Loraine and George T. Pittenger Scholarship
Established by alumnus George Pittenger in 2015 in memory of Martha Jo Pittenger, his loving and supportive mother. Awarded to promising students with a GPA between 2.5-3.0 from Dallas/Fort Worth area. Second preference is given to students who have a GPA between 2.5-3.0 from Texas.
Murray Family Scholarship
Provides a scholarship to a student with first preference given to students from Ouachita County, Ark., and second preference to students from Boone County, Ark. Scholarship is good for up to four additional years as long as student remains in good academic standing and funds are available. If there are no students eligible from Ouachita or Boone counties, preference will be given to students majoring in business.
Ocker-Moore Educational Trust Endowment
Established in 1991 from the James Hayden Moore estate of Van Buren, Ark. Awarded to needy, worthy and deserving students from Crawford and Franklin counties in Arkansas.
Sutton Memorial Fund
Established in 1993 by the Ozarks Arts and Craft Fair Association of the War Eagle Fair to honor three former Ozarks students: Bonnie Elaine Sutton, Fred L. Sutton and Dana Lynn Galyen Sutton. Scholarships are to be awarded to any full-time student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference is given to students Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

Tom and Frances Leach Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1986, scholarship is awarded to students with a high school GPA of at least 3.5 and show leadership potential. Preference given students from Arkansas and Oklahoma.
RELIGION SCHOLARSHIPS Andrews Lambrecht Scholarship
Established through the estate of Fred W. Andrews, it is awarded to a divinity student in the religion program.
Arnold and Luella Langenberg Scholarship
Arnold and Luella Langenberg lived in Ftort Smith and he was a Presbyterian minister. Provides scholarships for Presbyterian students who will be entering a church vocation.
Ayleen Ragland Endowed Scholarship
Ayleen Ragland graduated Ozarks in 1931 with a major in English. She spent 46 years as an educator in Arkansas before passing away in 2001. Awarded to a sophomore who maintains 3.2 cum GPA and demonstrates leadership qualities at the University level. The student must be an active in a Christian student organization or in a local church.
Cimarron Presbyterial Scholarship
Established in 1979 by the Cimarron Presbytery, it is awarded to a student in good standing with financial need and from one of the 16 Presbyteries.
Claude Irving & Eula Hartsell Robertson Shell & John & Gwendolen Shell Memorial Scholarship
To provide scholarships to students in need of financial assistance as determined by the financial aid office. First preference given to the children of Presbyterian Ministers and serving within the bounds of the Presbytery of Arkansas. Second preference to presbyterian students who are active in their home churches.
Fay J. Bullock Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. Tom B. Wilson, a 1942 Ozarks graduate who served as a Presbytery minister in Arkansas. He also taught philosophy and humanities at Ozarks. Awarded to a Presbyterian student in good academic standing.
George M. Hunt, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1986 by Dr. George Hunt Sr., and family in the memory of his son, Dr. George Hunt, Jr. Awarded to students who are studying in the field of Christian education or interested in service and who have a learning disability.
Harry L. Bartlett Memorial Endowment
Named in honor of Harry Bartlett, it is awarded to a student who is studying for the ministry.
Lewis & Lora Beth Rogers Endowed Scholarship
The Rev. Lewis R. Rogers graduated from Ozarks in 1934. He served Presbyterian churches in Oklahoma and Missouri for 54 years. His life reflected his faith in Christ and he served the Presbyterian Church with love and grace. Awarded to students with at least a 2.50 GPA and who are candidates for the ministry in the Presbyterian Church.
Robert and Judith Bohl Endowed Scholarship
First preference given to pre-ministerial student(s) or student(s) with emphasis in religious studies. Second preference to first generation college student(s), and if none meets that criterion, the Office of Financial Aid will award the scholarship to student(s) in good standing with the University with demonstrated financial need.
Sidney, Clara and Lola Gotcher Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Basil Maurice King and Eve Lee Gotcher King Revocable Trust. Awarded to Christian education or ministerial student with demonstrated need.
Spring Branch Presbyterian Church Scholarship
Established by Spring Branch (Texas) Presbyterian Church in November of 1986. The Rev. Dr. Jerry Rice, an Ozarks alumnus, was their pastor at the time. To be awarded to a student going into full-time Christian service.

William and Adelia Daniel Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1998 by the Daniels, it is awarded to students in their junior and senior years who plan to go into the ministry.
William H. Drake Memorial Scholarship
Established in March 1978 by William (Bill) H. Drake’s family, it is awarded to a Presbyterian student who is studying to enter a church vocation.
ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS A.J. and E.P. Stephens Scholarship Award
Scholarship is to be awarded to students with financial need, who excel academically and show leadership potential.
Arcare Dr. Steven Collier MD Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of the scholarship is to facilitate the student’s ability to complete a qualifying degree program, including Licensed Clinical Social Work, Education, Business or Pre-Med. Student must have a 2.5 GPA or better, be a junior, and from Arcare counties (Cleburne, Craighead, Cross, Faulkner, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lonoke, Monroe, Prairie, Pulaski, Saline, White and Woodruff).
Blaine and Cathy Caldwell Art Education Scholarship
Established by former Ozarks Art Professor Blaine Caldwell and his wife, Cathy, this scholarship is awarded to students who are juniors or seniors, have strong academic credentials, and who are pursuing a degree in art and have been accepted into the University’s teacher education program.
Charles A. Frueauff Foundation Scholarship Award
A foundation that is about serving those who are diligently working to assist those who are developing new ways of dealing with pressing and complex issues. Awarded to students utilizing services of the Jones Learning Center who demonstrate a financial need.
Chatlos Foundation Scholarship
Supportive of nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and headquartered in Florida, The Chatlos Foundation’s areas of interest include bible colleges/ seminaries, religious causes, medical concerns, liberal arts colleges and social concerns. Scholarships are awarded to students with financial need.
Curtis L. Spence Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to returning students in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need and are majoring in education.
Dennis & Marie Wheeler Memorial Scholarship Award
Established by Ozarks alumna Angela (Wheeler) Spencer ’98 in honor of her grandparents. Awarded to students from Johnson County and who have demonstrated financial need.
Erwin T. Koch (Colonel) Award
The award is to be given for the most interesting and well-written essay on the topic of his/her choice. Annual gift is received from the Erwin T. Koch Charitable Trust.
First Presbyterian Church (Fort Smith) Scholarship for Haitian Students
Established by the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith, AR to provide need-based scholarships to Haitian students.
James & Amanda Alders Pike Art Therapy Award
Awarded to student majoring in art with first preference given to an art major taking a psychology class or classes or with a minor in psychology. Evidence of need also preferred.
Karenree & Ron Jones Music Scholarship Award
Established in December 2017 by Karenree and Ron Jones in memory of their daughter, Debra Ann Perry. To provide a music scholarship, with first preference being given to a student who has demonstrated financial need and is active in a choral group.
Lorraine Darnell Belote Annual Scholarship
Awarded to students who are majoring in music and chosen by the Financial Aid Office.

May-Deal Scholarship-Second Presbyterian Church Award
Established in 1988 by the Ruth May Gibb Trust which is managed by Second Presbyterian Church of Little Rock Preference given to Arkansas students who have need.
Mitchell S. & Esther Epperson Memorial Scholarship
Established by Ozarks trustee Susan Epperson to honor her parents-in-law. Unrestricted.
Otha H. Grimes Foundation Scholarship
Awarded to worthy sophomores, juniors, and seniors, students pursuing degrees in health, and Jones Learning Center students. The foundation began in 1987 and funds commitment to excellence scholarships.
Oxley Foundation Scholarship Fund
A foundation that warmly supports education and other charitable causes. One of the founders had a child with a learning disability and became supportive of the Jones Learning Center. Today, the scholarships are awarded to students with a financial need.
P.E.O. Scholarship Award
To provide annual scholarship to an incoming female freshman student with a minimum of a 3.0 high school grade point average with preference given to a resident of Johnson County, Arkansas.
Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista Scholarship Award
Scholarship will be provided to a student, with first preference being given to a Presbyterian student in good academic standing.
Presbytery of Arkansas Annual Scholarship
Awarded annually to students in need of financial assistance for tuition-only scholarships. In order of preference, the award will be given to students who are children of ordained Presbyterian Ministers of the Word and Sacrament; active members of a Presbyterian Church; or to students with financial need.
Ronald King Laster Scholarship
The donor will choose the recipient from application forms gathered by the Financial Aid Office. Preference will be given to graduates of a high school in Johnson County, Arkansas, or someone born in Johnson County, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Wallace M. Milton Scholarship Award
In honor and in memory of former corporation manager for Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation, this scholarship is awarded to one or more students from their local utility service area in the Arkansas River Valley.
