Those two words come to mind when I think back on the past academic year at University of the Ozarks. Hello and welcome to the University’s 2022-23 Annual Report, our yearly opportunity to highlight the activities and accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff as well as to recognize our amazing alumni and friends who supported the University throughout the year.

The University was blessed with numerous highlights during the 2022-23 year. One of those was learning in January that the Higher Learning Commission had reaffirmed accreditation of Ozarks for the next 10 years.

To meet HLC’s high standards, Ozarks demonstrated its quality in five areas: mission; integrity; teaching and learning — quality, resources and support; teaching and learning — evaluation and improvement; and institutional effectiveness — resources and planning. The process included a two-and-a-half-year self-study, a comprehensive assurance argument document and a site visit by HLC representatives. We were pleased and honored that Ozarks received full affirmation for the maximum period. The reaffirmation was truly a team effort as many members of the campus community participated in this lengthy process. It also serves as a testament to the great work that our faculty and staff do every day.

There were other highlights and recognitions throughout the year. The University was named the No. 2 Best Value and No. 6 overall college in the South Region in U.S. News & World Report’s annual college rankings and a few months later was chosen by Best-In-Class Colleges as one of the best baccalaureate colleges in the United States for 2023. The new Best-In-Class Colleges ranking considers a range of essential metrics, including student retention, on-time graduation, earnings after college, low debt, and more. The University was also honored recently by the Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce as Employer of the Year for Johnson County.

These are all wonderful achievements, but they don’t just happen by chance. These honors and recognitions serve as a reminder of what can be achieved when we have a dedicated and united community. When our faculty and staff join our amazing alumni and friends to unite around a common purpose, their impact is magnified and they become catalysts for remarkable accomplishments.

On the following pages, you will read the names of approximately 1,500 alumni and friends in our Donor Honor Roll who share a common purpose — to help University of the Ozarks be the best private institution of higher education that it can possibly be and to positively impact the lives of hundreds of young men and women. As Margaret Mead, a renowned cultural anthropologist, once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” The collective strength and unwavering determination of individuals within a community can unlock its full potential and embark on a journey toward shared success and meaningful transformation. We are, indeed, Stronger Together.

The University’s Alumni Association presented alumni awards during Homecoming 2022. Those who were honored included, Jacquelyn Hampton ’86 with the Alumni Merit Award, Chaw Lee Yen with the Alumni Achievement Award, Falon Brueckner ’19 with the Young Alumni Service Award and Dr. Megan Minnera-Corrons ’12 with the Young Alumni Achievement Award.

Number of student-athletes who competed in one or more of the 20 intercollegiate sports programs at the University in the past academic year. The number represents 40 percent of the student body for the 2022 Fall Semester.

The number of years in the past decade that the Board of Trustees has frozen tuition after the board voted in April to freeze tuition for the 2023-24 academic year.

Since 2013, tuition has risen just 5 percent, compared to a nearly 30 percent national average increase in tuition at four-year college over the past decade.

WHY I SUPPORT OZARKS “In August of 1952, I was living in Searcy, Arkansas. One day there was a knock at the door and there stood Mr. Jim Bell from Russellville.
