DIVISION OF STUDENT LIFE | UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC
CAN WE GET A PAWS OUT?
Paws Out is our new school spirit campaign to help create tradition and unify us as a Tiger Family. Paws Out can be used in all ways: it's for giving snaps (kudos); it's for shout-outs or BIG news; it's to show support and acceptance of each other; it's for showing that Tiger pride runs deep; it's an action.
PAWS OUT 2 CONNECT Paws Out to Alumni Relations for hosting the amazing Homecoming @ Home! It was awesome to see so many Tigers, past and present, come together to celebrate their love for Pacific! It makes us proud to see everyone sharing their school spirit and participate in the virtual activities. We can't wait until next year's Homecoming celebration. Go Tigers!!!
PAWS OUT 4 WELL-BEING Pacific's Student Health Services office provides a wide array of health and wellness resources. From primary care to counseling services, we're committed to ensuring our students have everything they need to maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle.
PAWS OUT 2 PLAY Though we are still remote... there are a variety events and engaging opportunities for you to find a place, build community and have some fun! From Brickyards to Tiger X virtual classes and Esports to Hike of the Week... Student Life is full of all the things that make a Tiger enjoy their time at Pacific.

Keep it up!" - Anonymous "This semester, I was fortunate enough to have some nice professors who are understanding of WiFi issues and the difficulties that accompany virtual class." – Anonymous "I'm able to attend more events! I don't have to waste time worrying about commuting and whatnot. Everything is one click away!" – Anonymous "So far, I've made a decent amount of friends that I call every single day. Online learning has been a little lonely for me me, so it's been really nice to find a group that I can talk to." – Anonymous "It's been a tough semester- so much homework and assignments!" Anonymous

PSYCHOLOGY & ENGLISH '23
I've spent most of my life mirroring the depictions of Asian-American women in popular media - aloof, industrious, and "incapable" of leadership. Growing up, I was never dissuaded from playing into this "model minority" stereotype and felt validated whenever people praised me for exhibiting the characteristics that align with it. Assimilation and quiet diligence seemed synonymous with success. However, I am now in the first semester of my second year here at Pacific, and I have come to realize that I am worthy of the space I inhabit; I don't need to preface everything with "I don't know," and end my assertions with "if that makes sense" to appear more palatable or to justify my opinions. I am a first-generation woman of color, as well as a student leader, a writer, an artist, a researcher and a scholar. These identities aren't - and never have been - mutually exclusive. We are all here to self-actualize - to take up space - so, to end with a quote from one of my favorite poets, Walt Whitman, "You shall possess the good of the earth and sun, (there are millions of suns left)."
Being a Stockton native, I have heard a lot of unkind words about my hometown, especially from peers and friends my own age. So, at first, it was no question why I may have been a bit wary about coming to University of the Pacific. Granted, I did have my own aspirations and a mental image of what college was supposed to look like. To me, there was always something about Stockton that was special; I just couldn't quite put my finger on it. Later, I found it. Coming to Pacific has allowed me to create a new home for myself within my own hometown. It has allowed me to grow an interest and appreciation for Stockton and rekindled a sense of pride to be here. The University of the Pacific has presented me with the opportunity to learn so many new things, to meet so many people, and grow in so many ways I didn't know I needed. I came to Pacific having known very few people outside of Stockton, not having much job experience, and not open to trying new cuisines. If you had told me before college that I would end up being a rugby player, a fraternity brother, and Arts & Entertainment programmer, AND a leader on campus who happens to LOVE Vietnamese and Thai food... I'd say you're crazy. Boy am I glad you're not! I always lived by this message in my head: "If you had one wish in life, wish for happiness." If there's one thing Pacific has allowed me to do, it's to follow things that make me happy, even if I didn't think they ever would.
