As a life-long learner and educator, I am always on the lookout for a chance to discover something new. The last few months have been filled with learning new things as we all began to navigate our new normal.

One thing I’ve learned about and continue to remain inspired by is the resilience of those around me – my fellow Pacificans.

The level of heartfelt commitment they have displayed in imagining the fall semester for you has inspired me to strive harder for successes in this very unique semester.

I know for many of us at University of the Pacific, being together inspires our commitment to one another and builds us as a collective. So I’m excited for this fall term, because it will grant us new ways of finding ways to be together. Weeks of Welcome events have been curated to create opportunities for connection regardless of physical location. Beyond WOW, your Pacific+ course will continue to offer an array of activities including speakers, artists, student organizations, and workshops created specifically for you, our treasured students. I am confident that you will find Pacific to be a very special place where you’ll have the resources and support to grow and develop. We believe in you and your potential, and every one of us wants you to succeed. We all wish you the best of luck in your Pacific career.

HISTORY University of the Pacific, established in July 1851, is California's first chartered institution of higher learning. Originally located in Santa Clara, the university later moved to San Jose and, in 1924, moved to Stockton, making it the first private four-year university in the Central Valley.

Pacific extended its footprint into San Francisco and Sacramento in the 1960s when it acquired a dental school founded in 1896 (now the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry) and a law school founded in 1924 (now the McGeorge School of Law).

Today, Pacific has eleven schools and colleges on its three campuses that offer programs for undergraduate, graduate and professional students, in addition to degree completion, continuing education and lifelong learning programs.

Pacific's athletics teams, the Tigers, compete in NCAA Division I in seven men's and eleven women's sports, primarily in the West Coast Conference.

A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE TRADITIONS The tiger has been Pacific's mascot since 1908, when the rugby team wore black-and-orange striped jerseys and socks to easily identify their teammates on the field. Since then, the tiger has appeared in various styles, changing with the times. Powercat, our current mascot, made its debut in 1999.

The Pacific Rocks, also known as the Graffiti Rocks, are two giant granite rocks that individual students and groups paint during the night with various messages throughout the year. The first, located near Anderson Hall, came to campus in the 1940s to commemorate Napa College, which merged with Pacific in 1896. The second, located near Khoury Hall, was snuck onto campus in the 1960s by two engineering students.

Pacific's songs are "Pacific Hail," our alma mater, written and composed by Lois Warner Wilson '23, '58; and the "Tiger Fight Song" (originally titled "Hungry Tigers"), written and composed by Bob Couchman '22 and Russ Bodley '23. They are regularly performed at university events.
