FROM THE COMITTEE The Student Concert Committee is excited to welcome you to the Spring 2022 Student Concert! We are so excited to bring the show to our audience in person and in the virtual space this year so we can keep our audience and dancers safe. We are proud to showcase the works of School of Dance students who are still pushing forward to make dance. We as a committee highly encourage maskwearing and social distancing, as well as the guidance, put out by the School of Dance and the University of Utah. This production would not have been possible without the help of many hardworking and dedicated individuals. The Student Concert Committee would specifically like to thank Cole Adams, Sean Carter, Rebecca Johnson, Luc Vanier, Ben Sandberg, Austin Hardy, Tyler Kunz, Marina Gomberg, and the other School of Dance faculty members who have guided us along the way. A Muse Choreographers: Angelina Miller & Rachel Toth Music: Music: For Elise by Saint Motel Dancers: Angelina Miller & Rachel Toth We came into this piece with the idea to do something different from what we do in our technique classes and to make something a-musing. The song speaks to finding inspiration from the people around you. In the last year, we have continually been inspired and supported by our peers and our community and so we chose to tap into that feeling while creating this piece. We would like to take a moment to acknowledge the history of both jazz and swing as being created as social dances by black communities. We have been inspired by their movements and hope to bring that same joy to you. We are excited to share our work and had so much fun experimenting within these styles. This piece is for all those who inspire us everyday and the incredible art that is being created all around us. Take some time today to appreciate someone who inspires you.
Wolfman Choreographer/Dancer: Nick Weaver Music: James Taylor, John Fahey, and Michael Wall This dance is a reinvestigation of a piece made in early 2021. The work is inspired by the book Griffin and Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence, in which a relationship unfolds via postcards.

Different Spaces Choreography: Amber Foster in coordination with collaborators Dancers: Amber Foster, Kylee Arnold, and Mckelynn Barber Music: “Falling Into You” by Mae in combination with sound score edit of wind chimes by Amber Foster “Different Spaces” is a nostalgic screendance made through collaboration and shared human experience. The choreography investigates familiarity, memory, and relationships. The overall development of “Different Spaces” created emphasis on change and also on how where we are is important to how we perceive.
Ripple Choreographer/Dancer: Sophie Kane Music: “Prelude 6” by Max Richter Like a ripple in a pond, at any given moment a person is part of a much larger outpouring of energy that ebbs and flows through our community. In creating this piece, I was inspired by the image of the continual surge of people in urban areas, all traveling to different places, like a heart pumping blood through the veins. The music kindles a sense of unceasing kinetic energy, of forward motion and tension. I hope this piece inspires you to notice the beauty in the day-to-day and find a sense of community through it.

THE CREATORS
Angelina Miller and Rachel Toth Angelina Miller is a sophomore minoring in Modern Dance and majoring in Atmospheric Science with an emphasis on environmental science. She was raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico and has used dance, the outdoors, and art in general as a way to find joy in the little things since she was a child. She is extremely thankful to continue to have such an amazing dance community here at the U and excited to see where her dance journey goes from here! Rachel Toth is a sophomore majoring in Modern Dance. After school, she plans on pursuing a physical therapy degree. She is from Johnstown, Pennsylvania and has loved dancing since childhood. She is so thankful for her professors and peers who continually inspire her.
Nick Weaver is a dance artist from Salt Lake
City, UT. His choreographic works are often located at the intersection of memory, selfhood, queerness, and place. He is a mediocre rock climber and he likes to cook. also plays the guitar and has a passion for heavy metal music.
Abby Pace is a Junior in the Modern Program and double majoring in Philosophy. She collects small to mid-sized metal things and likes to skip and run outside through fruit-tree orchards.
Becca Aguilar is currently a junior in
the modern dance program. From a young age, Becca has loved dancing and creating movement. Through her training she continues to explore her choreography and artistry. Becca is excited to show her work in this semesters student concert! music.
Jessica Boone is a dance artist and educator from Texas. She earned a BFA in Dance from the Ohio State University and is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate and a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Modern Dance program at the University of Utah. While living in Austin, Texas,
she performed with Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company and Alyson Dolan in Austin, Texas. Jessica spends her free time making epic art messes and watching crime tv.
Amber Foster (she/her) is the
choreographer, director, and co-editor of “Different Spaces, a screendance collaboration”. Amber Foster is in her third year at the University of Utah after transferring from Dixie State University and is currently working toward her Bachelor’s degree in Modern Dance Teaching. Currently, Amber works in the community as a dance instructor and a freelance dancer and choreographer. Artistically, Amber is highly interested in the expressivity of movement, dance made for film, the community of dance, and kinesthetic empathy.
Sophie Kane was born and raised in the
suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Her love of dance began when she took her first class at the age of three, and she hasn’t looked back since. An aspiring dancer and choreographer, she was fortunate enough to train over the years at summer programs through American Ballet Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet Academy. This is her freshman year at the University of Utah as a ballet major, and she’s so excited to share this piece with the audience!
Alli Schuh is a junior in the Modern Dance
program and a double major in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. She is interested
in dance as a healing modality and place of community connection.
Elle and Lily Elle Malan Taylor is a Utah native, currently in her sophomore year at the University of Utah. She is studying both Modern Dance and Environmental & Sustainability Studies. Elle enjoys creating in many mediums including movement, writing, and watercolor painting. She loves her friends, family, and trees very dearly. Lily Bella Hammons is in her sophomore year at the University of Utah’s Modern Dance program and Business Marketing program. She loves creating and exploring movement in the studio, outdoors, and through screendance. besides moving and grooving Lily love exploring the outdoors and going on many spontaneous adventures.
