CRIMSON Laureate Society

Science and math drive technological and social progress, improve lives, and enable us to face the global challenges affecting today’s world. Much of this work begins right here at the College of Science, where researchers drive transformative discoveries in drug development, clean energy, data science, climate change, and astronomy, while training future scientists, doctors, business leaders, and more. In March, we launched the Crimson Laureate Society, a group dedicated to advancing science and math at the University of Utah. We now have over 660 members, making the contributions that drive outreach, education, and research in your College while gaining exclusive, member-only benefits like VIP event invitations. The holiday season provides an opportunity both to reflect on accomplishments like these, and to look forward to ways of making 2018 even more impactful for science and our students. That’s why I am asking you to join your fellow alumni and science supporters by establishing your Crimson Laureate Society membership. Sincerely,

Henry S. White Dean, College of Science, and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry

CRIMSON Laureate Society Mathematics is everywhere. The career of every future scientist, data scientist, engineer, statistician, and teacher is rooted in a solid mathematical foundation. The surging information-based economy, fueled by an avalanche of data in everything from finance to social networks to personalized medicine, depends increasingly on mathematical and computational expertise. The Department of Mathematics at the U is a leading center of innovative teaching and research, covering a broad array of core mathematics, statistics, applied and computational mathematics, data science, and mathematical biology. The prominence of our internationally-renowned faculty consistently propels the Department to top 30 rankings among all mathematics departments nationally. The Department is home to nearly 350 undergraduate majors and 150 graduate students who will be future leaders in quantitative-intensive industries. Our well-regarded programs for future K12 teachers of mathematics serve critical needs for mathematics education at all levels, and are a key component to any comprehensive STEM pipeline strategy. Looking ahead, we aim to broaden our research impact and train more highly qualified students of mathematics to drive quantitative innovation and discovery at the University of Utah and throughout the world. As a member of the Crimson Laureate Society, you will play a key role in achieving these goals. Sincerely,

Davar Khoshnevisan Chair, Department of Mathematics
