We’ve got an action packed season for the whole family to enjoy, live and onstage!
A Holiday classic movie made into a Broadway musical, A Dr. Seuss kid-friendly Christmas play, a musical based on a popular literature classic, and a frantic madcap comedy!
We’ll start our season in the Patsy Miller Studio Theater with a historical play about the daring female pilots who bombed the Nazis in the dead of night. They were a crucial Soviet asset to winning WWII. The Germans nicknamed them the Nachthexen, or “night witches,” because the whooshing noise their wooden planes made resembled that of a sweeping broom.
On the Knight Hall stage, Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn the musical is a delightful singing and dancing spectacle. The beloved film classic comes to the stage in a charming crowd-pleaser featuring one glorious Irving Berlin number after another, each celebrating a different Holiday.
Student written and directed Bathrobes are back, along with Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat. What are Bathrobes you ask? Students write ten minute plays and submit them for consideration as companion pieces to our Christmas production. Four student’s plays were chosen, and they’ll open as the first half of a night of theater. (Congratulations to Andrew Stutz So Many Scrooges, Finley Gustafson Merry Grinchmas Eve, Carter Lambert A Lost Claus, and Savanah Hunter with Mistletoe.)
It’s time to bring a classic piece of literature turned into musical to the Knight Hall in the Spring. Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach the musical, is a sure fire hit for young and older audiences alike. We’re excited to feature a Thursday afternoon Student Matinee on February 27th, at 1pm.
For our final show, we’re excited to bring Jeffrey Hatcher’s madcap comedy The Critic to the black box. This witty and farcical one hour play will have you laughing with delight!
This season has all of your favorites; we do hope that you will enjoy the laughter, tears, spectacle, and pure entertainment from UNW theatre this year!

The women of the 588th Night Bomber Regiment flew in planes made of canvas and wood, and they dropped bombs on Germans every 15 minutes through the night to keep their enemy from sleeping. They were constantly being shuffled and moved to perform new duties; mechanics became navigators, navigators became pilots, and pilots became commanders. But when the time comes, to the sky they must go. Tonight, however, is different than any night they’ve faced before—their enemy has employed a new tactic taking them completely by surprise. Using movement, song and lyrically styled dialogue, we follow these brave women through one fateful evening during the war.

Based on the book by Dr. Seuss
From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that The Cat in the Hat is the funniest, most mischievous cat that they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and the craziest of ideas, he is certainly loads of fun. He turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure... but what will mum find when she gets home...? This is definitely for children of all ages. The festival also includes 4 student-written 10-minute plays. This UNW tradition is a yearly delight for audiences and families of all ages.

Based on the book James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
Book by Timothy Allen McDonald
Directed by Jennifer Hunter
When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach... and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building. Critics rave: James and the Giant Peach is a musical “masterpeach!”

By Richard Brinsley Sheridan
Hatcher
From comic mastermind Jeffrey Hatcher comes a fresh take on Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s 18th-century romp THE CRITIC, a whirlwind comedy about bad theatre, worse playwrights…and, worst of all, the critics. The meta-theatrical frenzy builds throughout, from wacky antics and quick changes to an operatic farce as the company jumps from role to role. Experience a madcap night of life in the theatre with this classic behind-the-scenes comedy.
