Message from the Dean

Dear Friends,

This year, I started my second 5-year tenure as the dean of the College. It has been my honor to serve such passionate, dedicated, and smart colleagues for the last five years. As part of a Carnegie Tier 1 research university, I am very proud of our College’s accomplishments. Our talented and dedicated faculty and staff ensure our students’ success by continuously striving for their best outcomes. Therefore, it is no surprise that our College is a strong and active contributor to our university’s success. Of course, I would be remiss if I do not acknowledge the support and contributions of our alumni, who help students and the College with their financial support and other efforts, such as mentorship.

While the world has gone through various pandemic-related challenges in the past year, and our College is not immune to them, I am very excited to share our achievements despite the difficult times. By focusing on student success, we provide opportunities to our students in new and emerging areas, such as data science and computational linguistics. We continue to analyze our curriculum to ensure quality and state-of-the-art instruction. Our faculty continue to explore research and grant opportunities to involve and train students. We enable our students and faculty to engage in world-class innovations and promote cross-pollinating between our three departments of Information Science, Learning Technologies, Linguistics, and beyond. We continue to engage industry partners and other collaborators in the rapidly growing high-tech sector in the Dallas- Fort Worth Metroplex to provide internship and employment opportunities for our students. The result of these efforts is the largest enrollment that our College has seen in the past decade.

As we celebrate our accomplishments from the previous two years, we reflect on what matters the most: the success of our students. As we move forward, we aim even higher by putting our students first. Our vision continues to evaluate every activity, interaction, and decision to ensure each student’s success, not just when they are studying with us but well beyond in their professional lives.
