Green light for first rural padel club Shortlisted for A Dorset farmer who won Britain’s Got Talent with the Hawkstone Farmers’ Choir has been granted planning permission to build Dorset’s first rural indoor padel club on his family’s farm. Dorset Council has approved plans for Chalk & Padel at Thorneydown Farm, near Sixpenny Handley. Building is expected to begin this autumn, with the club due to open in spring 2027. The club will have three indoor
padel courts, a speciality coffee café and a wellness studio offering reformer Pilates, yoga and breathwork. Padel, a doubles racket sport often described as a cross between tennis and squash, is Britain’s fastest-growing racket sport. The Lawn Tennis Association reported in May that a million adults and juniors now play in Britain, up from 15,000 in 2019. Mastermind Ben Chick said the club is about more than sport:
“The point is giving people somewhere to meet, move and feel part of something. Farming can be a really lonely job, and a lot of the villages round here have lost the places people used to come together.” Already, 750 people have joined the club’s waiting list. Anyone interested can sign up at chalkandpadel.co.uk and follow the build on Instagram at @ chalkandpadel. The club expects to create the equivalent of four full-time jobs.
Choral fundraisers have raised £50,000 The Vocal Fun Community Choirs were pleased to present Clare from the Macmillan Caring Locally charity with a cheque for £5,200 from their fundraising efforts this year, which included two choir concerts. The community choirs welcome all abilities and sing popular music/musical theatre. Both choirs are relaxed, fun and friendly and meet in Corfe Mullen and Ferndown.
Free taster sessions are available. The choirs have raised more than £50,000 in
the last 10 years. Visit vocalfun.co.uk for details. Ron Bolton
BBC Young Writers’ Award Tom I, aged 16 and in Year 11 at Bryanston School , has been named as one of just five young writers shortlisted for the prestigious 2026 BBC Young Writers’ Award with the University of Cambridge. He was selected from hundreds of entries for his short story, Funny, which explores the darker side of being the class clown and the ways in which humour can sometimes mask loneliness and a desire for connection. The story follows a young boy who turns to jokes and pranks as a way of coping with the loss of his father and making his classmates laugh. But as his attempts to entertain go too far, the consequences become increasingly serious. Judges praised Tom’s mature exploration of peer pressure and psychological bullying, as well as the story’s originality and ‘unique voice’. Funny, and the other shortlisted stories, can be heard through a BBC National Short Story Award podcast on BBC Sounds.

At the main festival site on Willow Walk, the Dacombes Theatre hosted a full day of free demonstrations by local chefs, bakers and food specialists. Headliner, professional chef Colin Nash showcased spectacular fish and game cookery, while former Great British Bake Off contestant Maggie Richardson, above, shared her choux-pastry expertise. The festival ended with a chocolate cake competition judged by Maggie Richardson and Colin Nash. Ten-year-old Samuel Tulk, from Poole, won the junior category with the first chocolate cake he had ever made, and Lydia Elderfield from Ferndown won the adult category.

Let us hope for more letters Lifeboats are not a taxi service Reference Anthony Oliver letter. 1, Anthony said he, what makes you think I am male? 2, I am sure you are grateful for the publicity, but you are an advertisement. Do you pay for your advert, like most people who want to place an ad in the papers? If you pay for it, then I will stay silent, if you don’t,then I suggest to the editor, if there is not enough letters for the next edition, you don’t publish a letters page for that edition. You wait until there are enough letters and put the adverts, where they belong, out of the letters page. Just a thought. L West Wimborne
n Thank you for your letter. On the two points you raise: 1. We apologise if you are offended by the letter-writer’s presumption you are male, but it would perhaps help if you supplied your given name. B. We do not expect payment for publicising charitable or not-forprofit organisations’ events that benefit the local population. It’s true that, within the time and space constraints of a small publication, we have to fit items where we can and some of these do arrive in the form of a letter. What constitutes a ‘letter’ is a somewhat subjective issue… ed
Whatever has happened to our letter delivery service? On Wednesday, September 23, we had post delivered for the first time in over a week. Two were franked as posted on Monday 15th, both second class and one was locally posted, that’s a week and two days - so where had they been?
Two others of 12 delivered had contents of correspondence dated 2nd and 17th September, both officially stamped but without marked dates. What has happened to the promised every-other-day delivery? Anthony Oliver Wimborne

Vikki Slade (New Stour & Avon, Sept 18) is of course correct that we should not abuse RNLI lifesavers who turn out voluntarily in the foulest weather to rescue people in distress at sea. They deserve our most heartfelt support. However, she does not seem to understand that people are infuriated by the way the RNLI provides a taxi service for illegal small boat immigrants who are not in danger (they have just come halfway across the Channel from France) and have deliberately filled the boat to the maximum extent to make as much money as they can. Most are economic migrants who are not fleeing from any dangers from persecution, and they should have settled in the first
safe country that they came to. Providing them with food and accommodation at taxpayer expense (my taxes) when we have our own homeless is also totally wrong. Furthermore, many of these young men come from countries where they are used to different styles of living, particularly in the treatment of women and girls. They have shown by getting into the boats that they have no regard for the immigration laws of this country as it doesn’t suit them, so who knows what other British laws they will choose to ignore? We are fed up with politicians who do nothing significant to solve this abuse. John Heath Ferndown

Summer Evening raises £500 for group A warm summer evening, live music and homemade refreshments helped bring the community together at Kingston Lacy Allotments Growing Spaces for In Jolly Good Company’s first Summer Evening In The Garden fundraiser. The dementia-friendly charity, which creates uplifting Jolly Days for older people across Dorset, welcomed guests to its peaceful garden setting for an evening of friendship, conversation and celebration. With the sun shining and the allotments looking at their summer best, visitors enjoyed a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Old friends caught up, new connections were made, and many people had the chance to learn more about the charity’s work supporting older people and those living with dementia. A highlight of the evening was the chance to see the Step Outside gardening group in action. The group gives people the opportunity to grow vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers, harvest produce to take home, share tea and cake, and spend time outdoors in a calm, friendly space. Guests were treated to homemade cakes from Jenny, including coffee and walnut, Victoria sponge and double chocolate brownies with strawberries, alongside savoury nibbles and refreshing drinks served by Brendan behind the bar. The charity thanked both volunteers for
giving their time and talents so generously. Live music from Lydia Laughing provided the soundtrack to the evening, with harp, cello, guitar and vocals creating a fresh, atmospheric folk sound that was warmly received by everyone there. Thanks to donations on the door, the event raised an impressive £500 to help In Jolly Good Company continue its work bringing creativity, companionship and joyful shared experiences to older people across the county. There will be another opportunity to support the charity later in the month, when the In Jolly Good Company patron Lord
Shaftesbury, Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, welcomes Lydia Laughing, Ann Liu Cannon and other young musicians for a night of acoustic music at Wimborne St Giles Church on Friday, September 25, from 7pm to 10pm. The concert promises an atmospheric evening of contemporary folk music in the beautiful acoustics of the church, with refreshments available. Tickets are £15, with free entry for children under 18. Tickets can be booked in advance from www.ticketsource.com/in-jolly-goodcompany-cio. Some tickets will be available on the door.

Meet Millie – sweet, sassy and determined!
M
illie is a determined little girl, full of personality, with the sweetest cuddles and a sassy streak. If she likes something, you know it. If she doesn’t, you definitely know that too! Julia’s House nurse Molly has known Millie for over two years: “We first met Millie and her mum Catherine when Millie was just four months old and had already spent her whole life in hospital,” shares Molly. “Meeting families early makes such a difference. It means they know friendly faces are waiting for them when they come home.” Millie has complex health needs, including serious heart and breathing problems, but since leaving hospital she has grown stronger and more settled. She used to need oxygen during the day as well as at night. Now she only needs it when she is unwell - a huge step forward. There have been lots of other milestones too. Millie can sit more confidently, hold herself up and has even started bottom shuffling around the hospice. “When you’ve known a child for years, those little moments mean so much,” says Molly. For a long time, Millie’s favourite place was the sensory room, where she loved the lights, bubble tube and calming equipment. Gradually, the care team has helped her feel comfortable exploring other spaces too, starting in the sensory room and then making their way through the garden to the activity room, where Millie can join in and play alongside other children. Supporting the whole family is an important part of Julia’s House care. When Millie spends time at the hospice, it gives Catherine a chance to rest, recharge or simply have a quiet moment, knowing her daughter is safe, happy and cared for. Millie also has an older brother, Reggie, so that support can make a real difference to family life. “Millie can make you work for her smiles and giggles, so when you get one, it’s a brilliant feeling,” Molly adds. “It’s been so special watching her grow stronger, become more comfortable with us and learn that our faces are familiar ones she can trust.” Be part of Millie’s story too. Gifts in Wills are a fantastic way to support seriously ill children in Dorset and ensure we can be there for families like Millie’s in the years to come. Support worker Ali is a legend of the fall A dedicated member of staff at Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity, has celebrated her first year with the charity by taking on a 15,000ft skydive, raising more than £600 to support children and adults with disabilities. Ali Hargreaves joined Diverse Abilities a year ago as a lead support worker within the charity’s Shapes and Transitions service, which provides specialist care and support for children and young people with profound disabilities up to the age of 30, both at home and in the community. One parent supported by the service said: “Having the carers visit us has taken the stress out of bedtimes. “My husband and I love hearing him laugh and have fun while we take a breath
and enjoy a much-needed sit down at the end of a busy day.” Looking back on her first year with the charity, Ali said she has enjoyed building relationships
with the children and young adults she supports - especially celebrating their achievements and milestones. She said: “What a surreal but amazing experience!
“I jumped from 15,000ft, freefalling at 125mph for 60 seconds before my parachute opened. “Then it was a peaceful seven-minute descent before landing. “My challenge only lasted 60 seconds, but for the children and young people we support, and their families, their challenges are lifelong.” Thanks to her courage and determination, Ali raised £638 for Diverse Abilities, helping the charity continue to provide vital support services across Dorset. If you’re feeling inspired, Diverse Abilities are taking sign-ups for their next Skydive Day on May 1, 2027. Find out more at: diverseabilities.org.uk/ daevents/skydivers.

Care South shines a spotlight on its stars of 2026 at special awards ceremony R ADVERTISING FEATURE
esidential and care at home provider and registered charity, Care South, has shone a spotlight on the outstanding people behind its care services at its 17th annual Stars Awards.
The event, hosted at the Marsham Court Hotel in Bournemouth, brought together colleagues from across Care South’s homes and care at homes offices based across Dorset, Somerset and North Devon who provide outstanding care to residents and clients. The ceremony was the second stage of the event, following local events at Care South’s homes and offices, where the finalists were announced earlier this summer. Nominations for each award were made by colleagues, residents, clients and relatives. Hosted by Simon Bird - CEO, with assistance from Chris Kean – Chair, Phil Smith - Director of Residential Care and Martin Ross – Director of Care at Home,
a host of awards were presented to staff on the frontline and those working behind the scenes. These awards included Care Home of the Year, Care South at Home Office of the Year, Carer of the Year, Newcomer, Dining Experience, Activities Team and Best Support Team to name but a few.
New for this year, the Stars Awards also featured a special category called the HEART Excellence Awards, which recognised staff who go above and beyond in exemplifying Care South’s HEART values of honesty, excellence, approach, respect and teamwork. Simon Bird, CEO at Care South, said: “The Stars Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication, compassion and commitment of colleagues across Care South. Every day, our teams go above and beyond to provide high-quality care to our residents and care at home clients, ensuring
they feel fulfilled and enabled to enjoy everything that life has to offer.

To celebrate 80 years of Verwood & District Horticultural Society next year, we’re bringing the community together for a special Wildflower Planting Day. We’ll be planting English bluebells, snowdrops, cowslips, primroses and native wildflowers in carefully-chosen areas around Verwood. More colour for Verwood. More food for early pollinators. More habitat for wildlife. It’s an opportunity to bring our community together.
With funding from Verwood Solar Farm, and support from Dorset and Verwood Councils, we’ll be creating beautiful pockets of wildflowers across the town for everyone to enjoy. Everyone is welcome! Whether you can spare an hour or several, come along and help us plant something beautiful for the future. Contact verwoodhorticultural society@gmail.com and we’ll allocate volunteers to meeting points around Verwood. Ollie Greensmith

Politics
Opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect those of the publisher
Monitoring safety for fish but not humans The safety of the water in Christchurch Harbour and the inadequate response of the regulators rightly remains an issue of public concern. Many of my questions to the Government, BCP Council and the Environment Agency are still unanswered. How is it justified that the Environment Agency can afford to monitor the safety of river water for fish but will not test or monitor that same water for faeces or E-coli bacteria? The ridiculous explanation is that faeces and E-coli are only a danger to humans and not to fish and the environment! The results of laboratory tests promised by the Environment Agency have still not been published and the source of the E-coli which resulted in a child’s repeated hospitalisation has not been identified. n As the cost to the taxpayer of welfare benefits continues to soar, one might have expected that the Government would be stepping up action
against benefit fraudsters. But what seems to be happening is quite the reverse. A public-spirited constituent has shared with me her forlorn attempts to engage the DWP in investigating and bringing to justice a local serial fraudster who has not only admitted fraud but also brags about it. Why has the Labour Government withdrawn guidance on the fraud investigations process it used to publish? It will not inform people on the outcome of their complaint or even whether an investigation has resulted, while insisting that only one report of benefit fraud can be made. In the interests of transparency and public confidence, the Government must reintroduce detailed guidance. n It was fitting that the latest attempt to make assisted suicide legal was defeated decisively on Second Reading in the House of Commons
I often talk about the natural beauty of our constituency. From the heathlands of Arne and Holt Heath to Badbury Rings and the Cranborne Chase, we are fortunate to live in one of the most remarkable landscapes in the country. But some of our most important natural assets are less visible. They flow quietly through our communities, shaping both the environment around us and the lives we lead. Recently, I was invited to visit a stretch of the River Allen that is rarely accessible to the public. Standing beside its crystal-clear water, it was hard to imagine that decisions taken more than a century ago are still contributing to flooding in Wimborne and the decline of wildlife today. The Allen is one of England’s rare chalk streams. Formed in the last ice age, there are only around 250 chalk streams left in the world, with the vast majority found here in southern England. These globally-important habitats
support a huge range of wildlife, but many have been altered over generations to meet the needs of industry, agriculture and development. Along parts of the Allen, the river was straightened during the 19th century to serve local mills, most of which no longer stand. While that may have made sense at the time, the consequences are still felt today. Water moves too quickly downstream, increasing flood risk, while habitats that once supported fish, birds and insects have been lost. That is why I am proud to support the ambitious restoration project being developed by local landowners and communities. If successful, it will reconnect the river with its natural flood plain north of Wimborne, slowing the flow of water and creating the conditions for nature to recover. One expert described the aim as turning the river from a ‘log flume’ back into a ‘lazy river’ and it is an image that has stayed with me ever since.
Conservative Christchurch & East Dorset CHRIS CHOPE MP at the end of World Suicide Week. I had chaired the House of Commons debate which highlighted the grave impact suicide has upon family and friends. Let us now hope that the Government will concentrate on improving provision and
funding for hospices and palliative care. As one of my colleagues said, ‘Until we can say that everyone who needs it has access to high-quality palliative care, we are offering nobody a choice’. n Have you visited the Second World War bombing decoy bunker at Moors Valley Country Park? More than 500 people, including my family and me, attended a recent free open day. It was fascinating to hear about the way in which the bunker was used to provide power to lights which mimicked nearby RAF airfields at Hurn and Ibsley. There is also an evening event in October when one can see what it would have been like when the flares were lit on the false runway. These are examples of the invaluable service provided by the Moors Valley Conservation volunteers.
Working to save our precious chalk streams
Liberal Democrat Mid-Dorset & North Poole VIKKI SLADE MP The benefits would be significant. Wildlife would thrive, communities would be better protected from flooding, and the river would become more resilient during periods of drought. It is exactly the kind of project that demonstrates how environmental protection and practical outcomes for local residents can go hand in hand. In Parliament, I am working to
ensure that these special habitats receive the protection they deserve. As a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Chalk Streams, I am working with colleagues across party lines to push for stronger safeguards and a more joined-up approach to water management. A bill to be debated shortly will consider giving chalk streams the additional protected status of UNESCO Heritage Sites. Since being elected, I have challenged water companies on pollution, worked with farmers to reduce agricultural run-off and supported groups using our waterways for recreation and wellbeing. But my visit to the Allen reminded me of something important: Environmental decline is not inevitable. With the right investment, local leadership and political will, nature can recover. I will continue fighting to ensure our chalk streams, rivers and wetlands are protected for generations to come.

Coming together for a blooming good show Despite one of the most challenging summers in recent years, the show benches were once again packed with colour, variety and horticultural skill at the Verwood & District Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show. More than 350 exhibits were entered across the many classes, giving the judges a difficult task as they considered the impressive standard of entries. There was a real buzz in the hall when the doors opened to the public and exhibitors eagerly checked the results. By prize-giving time, the hall was packed with visitors, with the Mayor of Verwood,
Simon Gibson, presenting the awards. There was success across several sections for Bill Howarth, who collected a number of trophies for his entries in the flowers, pot plants, vegetables and fruit categories. Roger Church also enjoyed a successful show, taking the award for roses and being presented with the RHS Banksian Medal. The annual medal is awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most points across the Flower, Vegetable and Fruit classes who hasn’t won the prize for the previous two years. The dahlia classes were a particular highlight, with a spectacular riot of colour
Valuation day for hospice Ever wondered what it’s worth? Local residents are being invited to bring along their antiques, collectables and treasured possessions to a special charity valuation day in Wimborne. Max Beaumont Fine Art & Consultancy will be offering valuations at James’ Tearooms at Wimborne Model Town on Wednesday, October 7, from 10am to 1pm. Visitors can bring along antiques, jewellery, silver, ceramics, artwork and collectables with valuations costing £5 per item, all of which will be donated to Forest Holme Hospice Charity. Kirsty Perks, from Forest Holme, said: “We’re really excited about the valuation day. “It’s something we’ve never done before and it should be a lovely, different way for people to support Forest Holme while perhaps discovering something interesting about an item they have at home.” Max, pictured, added: “I’m really looking forward to the day and

The Verwood & District Horticultural Society continues to welcome new members and visitors to its meetings, held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm at Verwood Memorial Hall. The Society also runs a programme of gardening and nature-related talks, social events, outings and competitions throughout the year. Surreal Shakespeare a Bard act to follow Juliet & Romeo, starring Emily Terndrup as Juliet and John Kendall as Romeo - will offer audiences at Lighthouse Poole a glimpse into the comic, surreal world of creator Ben Duke who wrote and starred in the original production in 2018. Since then the show has been performed more than 200 times across the UK, Europe, Canada, China and New Zealand. In Duke’s version - which combines movement, text, drama, dance and music - it turns out Shakespeare’s young lovers didn’t die in a tragic misunderstanding, they grew up, got married, and moved to Paris. When we meet them they’re in their 40s and at least one of them is having a mid-life crisis. They feel constantly mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by the pressures of being the posterchildren for teenage love. They decide to confront their
current struggles by putting on a performance... about themselves. Their therapist tells them it’s a terrible idea, but they invite the audience in anyway. Ben Duke, said: “I always hoped Shakespeare’s Juliet would wake up just a few moments earlier
than she does; I know she never will but I can’t help hoping for it! “Baz Lurhman’s film came out in 1996 and made a huge impression on me. “The idea for the piece came from imagining an alternate version and, in turn, to encourage
people to consider the nature of their own relationships. “I think we aren’t that honest about relationships and that too many stories focus on how relationships start rather than how they continue.” Emily added: “I have a huge affection for this Juliet; she’s funny, energetic and passionate but she’s also something of a fantasist and struggles with the gap between the life she imagined and the life she’s ended up with.” John Kendall said: “I sympathise with Romeo; I think Juliet is probably the driving force behind wanting to try this latest method of understanding the relationship problems we face. Whilst not really being fully convinced, I feel he’s earnest and does want to make things work.” n Tuesday, Nov 3, 7.45pm. Tickets and information 01202 280000. lighthousepoole.co.uk.

Interim findings from a University of Leeds-led research project, funded by the Road Safety Trust, have identified several areas of road-crossing that can present particular challenges for autistic children, while also highlighting potential differences in how children respond to different types of crossing infrastructure. The Autistic Children Matter: Addressing Road Crossing Challenges From Multiple Perspectives project is examining how autistic children approach road crossing, the challenges they face and why those challenges arise. It brings together evidence from autistic children, caregivers, independent travel trainers and traffic engineers, with the aim of improving pedestrian safety and supporting safer, more independent travel. Interim findings from an analysis involving children aged 11–13 years, suggest that

some road-crossing skills are considerably more difficult to develop than others. Navigating around parked vehicles, looking over the shoulder for traffic, dealing with busy roads, and understanding where bike lanes are and how to navigate them emerged as the most challenging areas for autistic children. The findings also indicate that road-crossing skills can take time to develop. The data suggest that many children may require around 10-12 training sessions to achieve the skills examined. The researchers say this is significant because approaches to Independent Travel Training can vary between councils, with some children potentially receiving training in only one session. Further work will examine whether ITT is standardised nationally and how practices differ between local authorities.

How long does conveyancing take? ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE It is very difficult to provide a definitive answer to this question as it really depends on the circumstances. As a general rule, leasehold transactions typically take longer than freehold transactions as there is the additional pack of information provided by the freeholder or managing agent and a review of the lease documents required, which can be lengthy. The involvement of a mortgage lender can also increase the transaction time as your conveyancer will need to ensure the lender’s requirements are complied with, in accordance with the UK Finance Handbook. The longer the chain, the longer the transaction is likely to take. Transactions linked together can slow progress if one party is delayed. The chain cannot proceed until all parties are ready - unless someone is prepared to ‘break the chain’. Search results can sometimes take weeks to be returned therefore this is another factor to consider.
The local search result can take longer to be returned, depending on the local authority. Lastly, there may be defects in the legal documentation which need to be resolved. Some of the process is reliant on the timescales of third parties but there are a few things you can do to speed it up! Be prepared - your solicitor will request information from you in relation to ID, funding, etc. Making sure you have that to hand to supply promptly will assist. Choose wisely - there is a broad choice in the legal market for conveyancing services. Ensure you choose your representation carefully. At HGW we offer clear, professional advice in a way that is straightforward and easy to understand and we will do all we can to progress your transaction and make the process as smooth and stress free as possible. Discover new woodland Fordingbridge Greener Living in association with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is hosting a Discovery and Consultation Day at Fordingbridge Nature Reserve on Saturday, October 10, from 10.00am to 1pm. Peole are warmly invited to visit the new woodland nature reserve in Green Lane, Fordingbridge. This is a chance to explore the site in the heart of the town, to hear exciting plans for access and habitat restoration, and to share thoughts on how the woodland could evolve. Volunteers who have been involved in the initial management of the woodland for the past year, will take small groups to visit the woodland for a walk of around 20 minutes. Topics to be discussed include:
l The ecology and habitat improvements l Proposed access routes and pathway plans l Ideas for community use, wellbeing and learning l Opportunities to get involved and shape the future. This feedback will help guide the next stage of planning and funding. Looking forward to seeing you there! The pathway is not yet wholly accessible - the ground is uneven and there are obstacles that will have to be stepped over. Stout footwear should be worn! Please do not bring dogs onto this site as it is a nature reserve. The meeting point will be the entrance at Green Lane. For more informtaion, contact fordingbridgegreenerliving@ gmail.com. Best countries to emigrate to from the UK As nights get longer and days get colder, many of us dream of flying south for the winter. If you quietly yearn to make that great escape, Armishaws have looked at popular locations for UK ex-pats. Portugal With hours of sunshine but cooler average temperatures than Spain or Southern France, Portugal is often considered one of the most welcoming EU locations. Accessible Portugal Digital Nomad and D7 Visas attract remote workers and retirees. Both property prices and the cost of living have seen Portugal rise in popularity with Brits moving abroad. Luxemburg High earnings, low taxes, great infrastructure, more than half the population is made up of immigrants. Visa requirements can be

slightly higher but there is a well-established pathway for local employers to welcome European talent. House prices are significantly higher than Britain. Spain Once considered more of a retirement location, Spain is now a popular choice for remote workers. DNV’s (Digital Nomad Visas) can last up to three years and make it a great short-term option.
The country also offers the EU Blue Card for skilled workers. You can get far more house for your money. The addition of outside space and swimming pools are a huge drawer. France The food, the wine, the whole French way of life is coveted by many. House prices and proximity to family back home add to the appeal. Higher barriers to entry exist for retirees and employees alike. Standard Employer Visas and Talent Passports, both require local employers. Prices are much more affordable, offering incredible space for Brits used to condensed city living. Australia One in 30 Aussie residents were born in the UK.
The warm climate, outdoor lifestyle and shared language make it an attractive option. Australia operates a points system measuring things such skills, savings, family ties, etc. Property prices are now more in line with the UK housing market.
