On track for fundraiser

Vintage tractor owners are getting ready for one of the first tractor runs of the year. The Easter Bunny run, organised and hosted by Phill Bascombe and family of Mannington, will take place on Easter Sunday, leaving Bascombe’s yard at 10am. As always, this is a charity fundraising event and £10 will get your tractor on the run, a bacon bap and cup of tea. The event will be supported by many local tractor owners, including

many members of the East Dorset Trac Pack. The run will be about 20 miles, taking in many East Dorset villages with a lunch stop at Witchampton at about 1.00pm.

Last year, with the help of more than 50 tractors, a cheque for £1,500 was presented to the friends of Victoria hospital. It is hoped to raise more this year for this excellent, local charity. For more information contact John on 07836 525330.

Fair in aid of hospice care

Forest Holme Hospice’s local fundraising group is inviting the community to a Spring Fair on May 3 at the Magna Care Centre in Wimborne to help raise vital funds to support the hospice’s compassionate palliative care and end-of-life services. It takes place between 10am and 12.30pm and will feature a variety of stalls from local businesses, a raffle and tombola, plus refreshments. The fair is testament to the hard work and ongoing commitment of Shirley Worner and Wellbeing lead Claire Baggs at the Magna Care Centre.

Shirley is a volunteer at Forest Holme’s local fundraising group, who also volunteers at the Magna Care Centre.

The Centre is on Arrowsmith Rd, Wimborne, BH21 3BQ and entry to the fair is free of charge.

Making you happy about spring

There are many reasons to be happy about the return of spring, and in Wimborne, you can add some special events...

Planet Wimborne has chosen global Earth Day (earthday.org/earth-day-2025) as a focus for green-themed activities which will tie in with April’s ‘Discover Wimborne’ festival organised by the Wimborne BID. Alongside regulars, there’ll be a Plant Swap at Walford Mill, a guided bird walk in Colehill Burial Ground and the opportunity to make eco-friendly party decorations at a workshop. You can also meet Wimborne’s green groups at ‘Spring on the Green’ on the Green on

April 26, and visit the Fair Ground shop in the Cornmarket anytime during April to pick up seeds (donations welcome). For a full list of events, see planetwimborne.org/calendar.

Marvellous mermaid trail to tell

‘Doc Martin’ actor and Julia’s House patron, Martin Clunes, was at the launch of the Great Tail Trail in aid of Julia’s House children’s hospice charity.

Martin met one of the artists of the 45 giant mermaid tail sculptures which can be found across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) until 1 June 1 - as well as the family of the teenager who inspired her tactile design.

Local artist Judith Opsblum’s design features the many different textures of the beach as well as inscriptions in braille. The sculpture is also covered in foot and paw prints to symbolise cherished moments at the beach between pet owners and their furry companions.Judith was inspired to create her mermazing design in memory of Annabelle Hover, who was cared for by Julia’s House until her death in January 2024 aged just 18.

Annabelle’s younger brother, Robbie, shares the same degenerative and lifelimiting condition as his sister.

“Julia’s House is a lifeline for families like the Hovers,” said Martin.

“Every time I visit the hospice I’m touched by how amazing the staff are.

“Families tell me how much it means to them to have

some respite and how much their kids love their time there.”

The Great Tail Trail comes to a close on June 1 but there’s a final chance to see all the tails at a celebratory Farewell Weekend at the BIC on June 14 and 15.

If you want to make one your own, the giant tails will be auctioned on June 20. Visit greattailtrail.co.uk.

At April’s AGM of the Probus Club of Wimborne, Wimborne resident Trevor Foan was greeted as the new president.

In his inaugural address, Trevor congratulated the club in achieving its 45th birthday and looked forward to its 50th celebration in 2030.

The club has welcomed several new members in the past year, some of whom have volunteered to take up roles organising speakers and social events.

The club is for retired men and meets once a month at Broadstone Golf Club for lunch and a talk by a variety of speakers.

Social events are also organised during the year to include family members. They say that new members are always welcome. More information can be found at wimborneprobus. org.

Former RAF flight mechanic turns 100

A former RAF flight mechanic enjoyed a party to celebrate his 100 birthday at a Ferndown care home.

Tony, who lives at Fairlawn Care Home, was thrilled to be joined by his family for the special occasion. This included his son, Christopher, who had flown from Denmark, and other son, Paul, who travelled from Torquay, as well as Tony’s extended family.

Tony spoke to his other son, Stephen, who lives in Sri Lanka, on FaceTime. When asked what the secret is to turning 100, Tony replied: “Just luck.”

At the start of Second World War, Tony was an RAF flight mechanic, which saw him travel across Europe eventually ending up in India, where he was demobbed.

After leaving the forces, he worked as a draughtsman which saw him planning and making maps.

Tony then moved to Kenya which is where he met his first wife, Barbara. Together they welcomed three sons before moving to Australia, where the family lived for 20 years. He went on to meet his second wife, Rosie, who already had three daughters. Tony retired in Australia in his 50s.

His son Christopher added: “Growing up, he was always a patient and gentle dad to

my brothers and I, and then supported his second wife Rosie’s three daughters. “When I think about what the secret to him reaching 100 is, he’s always enjoyed full fat cream and butter and he gave up smoking and alcohol around 20 or 30 years ago.”

Tina Vincent, home manager at Fairlawn, said: “It was wonderful to see Tony surrounded by his family

for his 100 birthday.

“He always appreciates everything we do to provide care and support to him at the home, so we were keen to make an extra special effort on his birthday.

“At Care South, we love to get to know the individual wishes, likes and dislikes of our residents, so we were pleased to enable Tony create lasting memories with his loved ones.”

Tim takes on challenge for Hospice Care charity

The deputy chairman of the board of trustees at LewisManning Hospice Care, Tim Goodson, is set to take on the gruelling Ironman Les Sables D’Olonne-Vendée in France in June 2025 to raise vital funds for the hospice. The Ironman challenge is one of the most demanding endurance races in the world, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle, and a 26.2-mile marathon run.

This iconic event takes place in one of France’s most vibrant triathlon destinations, with a stunning course featuring a canal swim, a bike ride through picturesque forests, and a marathon along the famous Les Remblai promenade.

Tim is currently following an intense 30-week training programme.

Sharing his motivation for taking on the challenge he

said: “My training is going well; I’m putting in the hours and gradually building up.

“It’s long been an ambition of mine to complete a full Ironman, having previously completed a half-Ironman in Swansea in 2024.

“It’s going to be tough, but I’m up for it. I’m training with my friend and colleague Mark Orchard and we’re motivating each other along the way.

“We have fully funded everything connected with the event ourselves, so 100 per cent of donations will go to Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

“This is a cause very close to my heart, and I’d love as many people as possible to get behind me and support this fantastic charity.”

You can help Tim reach his goal by

Moving quickly to preserve British steel-making

Those that adapt - survive. Tariffs were originally going to be the subject of this week’s column.

Little did I know that when I mentioned ‘balls of steel’ in the last edition, steel would become the hot topic and the brand-new entry at Number One of the rolling and current affairs shows in the UK. I am deliberate in stating British Steel is on the lips of newsreaders and political commentators in the UK media because - as the world is still squinting to read the US President’s teeny tiny numbers of the table chart of his foamex graphic board (was this his tombstone, or Liz Truss moment?!) - a very British story, that concerns the lives of British workers in Scunthorpe, is now dominating our news. I like that - a lot!

I’m a bit of a ‘Parliament anorak’ and like to witness the historic debates.

The last time Parliament was

recalled on a Saturday was in 1982 for the Falklands War!

I was in Runcorn, so missed Saturday’s recall.

I can only imagine how the mechanics of Parliament; the Speaker’s and Whip’s offices of both houses from all parties, the Parliamentary Labour Party, the Palace of Westminster staff, etc. all sprang into action.

Last Saturday, our Prime Minister, Chancellor Rachel Reeves and her team - with Business Secretary of State, Jonathan Reynolds MP coming out of the wings and taking centre stage at the despatch box - acted decisively to recall Parliament on the Saturday and swiftly passed legislation that enabled our Government to take control of British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant from Jingye(UK) to ensure the UK maintains its ability to manufacture raw steel, in our country.

Had the Government not taken

swift action, and the plant closed, the UK would have become the only member of the G7 without the capability to produce and export raw steel - something that would be to the detriment of our defence, national security and economic growth.

The Government secured

the raw materials required to keep the furnaces ‘fired up’had they failed to do so, the damage to the insides of the furnaces would have incurred a multi-million-pound bill to repair and enable re-ignition.

A bit like when your Nan would yell, ‘I can smell the wick, don’t let it burn out’ (those who know, know!)

The world is indeed changing.

Cast your minds back to the Chancellor’s spring statement.

The Government’s commitment to establishing strict fiscal rules and an independent Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR), demonstrates that they have a plan for growth and our economy.

The Labour front bench were well positioned to monitor any future and current effects of US tariffs, enabling them to move quickly to preserve British steel making.

Those who can adapt plans, survive.

Brexit is enabling us to act in national

It is good to see UK manufacturing back at the centre of public debate.

Even prior to Trump’s tariffs, our largest manufacturing sector, automotives, had been significantly damaged by government policy.

Production of vehicles for the home market fell by one third between February 2024 and February this year.

The principal cause of this slump was the Government’s arbitrary restriction on the ability of our domestic car industry to produce and sell vehicles with internal combustion engines.

In the House of Commons earlier this month, I called upon the Business Secretary to scrap these restrictions in order to boost home production in response to higher tariffs on exports to the United States. The Minister’s response was encouraging in that he disclosed that changes to the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate

were being considered in the context of reduced demand and ‘the incredible entry on to the world economy of increased Chinese production.’

Four days later, the Prime Minister announced his policy change, which was in the right direction. It is most welcome that small volume manufacturers such as Aston Martin, McLaren and Morgan are to be exempt from the regulation.

But why not every car maker? Consumers should be free to decide whether they wish to buy a car powered by an internal combustion engine. Furthermore, those who choose a traditional engine should not be penalised with higher prices, which are the consequence of volume limits being imposed. Those socialist controls should be totally removed as also should our own home-grown tariffs on cars imported from the USA.

The steel industry has always

played a key role in UK manufacturing, but the future is now under grave threat because British Steel, which owns and operates our last blast furnaces, intends to close them in June.

The purchase of British Steel by a Chinese company created this problem.

China has no interest in

interest

ensuring that the UK can still make virgin steel. Indeed, it would be in the Chinese national interest that we cannot. The only short-term solution is for the Government to acquire British Steel compulsorily from its Chinese owners to ensure the furnaces are not extinguished. Such urgent action must now be in the public interest, a point that I have made to the Government. REIDsteel in Christchurch relies upon British virgin steel for its world-beating structures and Simon Boyd, its managing director, is at the forefront of the national campaign to save this core manufacturing capability with strategic importance for the next generation.

One consolation in this time of turmoil is that the UK’s Brexit freedoms enable us to act in our own national interest by promoting self-sufficiency in trade and manufacturing without interference from the European Union.

Our county’s wildfires demand urgent action

In recent weeks, Dorset has lost hundreds of hectares of precious heathland to devastating fires - at Arne, Moors Valley Country Park, Canford Heath and, in the most widespread events, Upton Heath.

These fires aren’t just local emergencies - they’re warnings of a growing national crisis. Upton Heath is just half a mile from my home.

I watched the sky turn orange as flames swept through this rare landscape.

Firefighters from Dorset, Wiltshire, and Hampshire worked through the night to stop the blaze from reaching nearby homes.

These fires couldn’t have come at a worse time.

The heathland is blooming, reptiles are emerging, and rare birds like nightjars and Dartford warblers are nesting.

Even if nests survive, the insects they feed on are lost with the heather and gorse.

Dorset is one of the few places in the UK where nature’s decline has been reversed - but wildfires threaten decades of progress.

Upton Heath alone may take five years to recover.

The most heartbreaking part? These fires are almost always caused by people - from careless littering to illegal campfires and, increasingly, arson.

Just last night, I came across a group in the woods who had built a camp from scrub and lit a small fire.

When they saw me, they ran.

When I challenged them, they claimed they’d never light the campfire itself - but they knew they shouldn’t be doing it.

And that risk, even if unintended, could have set the entire area alight.

Climate change is only making things worse, with hotter, drier springs turning our countryside into a tinderbox.

Meanwhile, our firefighters

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue has already had to remove appliances from Poole and Wareham, and more cuts could follow.

Central government funding has declined, and the growing demands of environmental fires, flooding, high-rise rescues, and road traffic collisions are not being recognised.

I know what these crews sacrifice.

My father spent his entire career as a firefighter, and I served on the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Authority. These teams need proper funding, modern training, drones, flood rescue tools, and more.

We pay a fire precept - just £1.76 per week for a Band D property.

That must change. Lives, homes, and habitats depend on it.

We must also ban disposable barbecues.

While they didn’t cause this season’s fires, they start thousands annually and leave behind dangerous litter. Food & Drink

Cooking... with Martha Legg

Pork, apple and cider casserole

We were going to take some friends out for lunch, as a thank-you for house sitting for us. We had been out the week before with family, and it had cost more than £100 without drinks!

As our friends like a drink, we decided rather than go out, we would cook this meal at home.

Going out is a treat ,and not something we can do often, as we are going away, we need to save the pennies for meals out (they’re a lot cheaper in Spain).

This meal went down well with our friends and I followed it up with apple crumble, custard and cream (both the guys had both custard and cream, and then wonder why they can’t lose weight).

David and Julia bought a second-hand running machine, (although they live really close to Poole Park).

David used it for half an hour this week and says they share the work out between them! They both work from home and I don’t understand why they can’t go for a quick walk, like we do; Each to their own I suppose...

and just right for a winter day.

Ingredients:

2 Tsb olive oil

600g pork cut into chunky pieces

1 large onion chopped

2 carrots cut into chunky pieces

2 celery sticks cut into chunky pieces

2 eating apples cored and cut into chunky pieces

1 chicken stock cube

3-4 thyme sprigs plus extra to serve (optional) 140g crème fraîche 1-2 tbsp Dijon mustard 1-2 tsp cornflour

Serve with mashed potato and greens

Using the same pan, add the onion, carrots and celery to the pan and cook for 5-10 mins to just soften.

Add the lardons to the pan and fry until crispy. Pour in the cider, bubble for 1 min, transfer to slow cooker.

Add the apples, stock cube and herbs to the slow cooker, pour in 400ml water, season well and turn the heat to Low.

Cover with the lid and cook for 6-8 hrs until the meat is very tender

Turn slow cooker up to High.

Add the crème fraîche and mustard to the stew.

If the sauce is thin, you can thicken it with the cornflour.

Serve with mashed potato, greens and extra mustard and thyme.

Add dumplings to the casserole if required.

Before I started Slimming

Kirsty’s never looked back! Networking event launched by charity

I was the heaviest I had ever been, unhappy and unhealthy.

I’d started putting on weight during Lockdown, and didn’t stop.

I knew I was getting bigger, but it took me bursting into tears at one particular photo to make me decide only I could do something about my weight.

Joining Louise’s Slimming World group in Wimborne felt like taking back control.

I found the plan easy to get to grips with and I was excited to give it a go.

I lost more than half a stone in the first week and let’s just say I’ve never looked back!

I’ve discovered so many new recipes although Slimming World - lasagne has to be my favourite; I ate it for an entire week straight once! What you can do with butternut squash has been a complete revelation and I look forward every day to ‘pudding o’clock’ for a sweet treat.

I love going to group because everyone has the same goalwe’re all trying to lose weight. There’s an understanding there that you simply just don’t get from family and friends. When I’ve had a couple of weeks where the scales haven’t

gone my way, the amount of support and encouragement I’ve had has been amazing and makes me determined to keep going.

A year on, I’m now five and a half stone down, not yet at target but so much happier, healthier and confident and I know with the support of Louise and my group, I’ll get to target soon :).

Louise, Kirsty’s consultant said “I couldn’t be more proud of Kirsty.

“She’s a shining star in the

group and not only does she look stunning but it’s so lovely to see her grow in confidence week on week” Louise runs groups on Tuesdays at Wimborne Community Centre at 7.30am, 9am, 10.30am, 4pm, 5.30pm and 7pm For more info call Louise on 07902 566149.

Diverse Abilities is hosting a new morning networking event starting this month. ‘Pastries with...’ will be held at the Treehouse in Hurn and is an opportunity to mingle with other businesses and get to know like-minded people. The first session takes place on April 29, from 8am to 9.30am, and will feature a speaker from the BCP Council enterprise team and a parent from the world of SEN, as well as an opportunity to hear about the plans for the charity’s 70th anniversary.

The event is at Merritown Lane, Christchurch, where there’s plenty of free parking. It is free to attend the event, however spaces must be booked in advance at diverseabilities.org.uk/ daevents/pastires-with and donations can be made during the checkout process.

The importance of chiropractic for posture

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us find ourselves hunched over desks, glued to screens, or slouched on sofas for hours on end.

Poor posture has become a common issue affecting people of all ages, and while it may seem like a minor inconvenience, it can have serious implications for our overall health.

This is where chiropractic care plays a vital role in supporting and maintaining good posture, and something we are passionate about at Wimborne Wellness Centre.

Chiropractors specialise in the alignment of the spine and musculoskeletal system. When the spine is properly aligned, the body functions more efficiently - improving balance, reducing tension, and supporting optimal nerve communication.

However, when posture is poor, it can cause the spine to shift out of alignment, leading to discomfort, fatigue, and a range of chronic issues such as headaches, back pain, and reduced mobility.

Regular chiropractic adjustments help to correct these misalignments, known as subluxations.

By gently manipulating the spine, chiropractors can restore its natural

position, relieving pressure on the nervous system and encouraging the body to maintain better posture.

Alongside adjustments, chiropractors often provide tailored advice on ergonomics, stretching and strengthening exercises to support lasting postural improvements. Poor posture doesn’t just affect the back and neck - it can influence breathing, digestion, and even mood.

Slouching compresses the organs, reducing their efficiency. It also places extra strain on muscles and joints, causing pain and stiffness.

Over time, this can lead to muscular imbalances, with some muscles becoming

overly tight and others weakening, further worsening posture and creating a cycle of dysfunction.

Children and teenagers are especially vulnerable to postural issues in the age of digital devices.

Early intervention with chiropractic care can help them develop healthy habits and prevent long-term problems.

For adults, especially those with sedentary jobs, regular visits to a chiropractor can counteract the effects of prolonged sitting and keep the spine functioning at its best.

In conclusion, chiropractic care offers a proactive and non-invasive approach to improving posture.

By addressing the root causes of spinal misalignment and offering guidance on lifestyle adjustments, chiropractors empower individuals to take control of their health.

Whether you’re experiencing discomfort or simply want to feel and function better, chiropractic care can be a key part of achieving and maintaining good posture - to book in for a consultation give Wimborne Wellness Centre a call on 01202 604707 or email admin@wimbornewellnesscentre. co.uk.

Complications with Wills incorporating Trusts

If you are appointed as an Executor and Trustee of a Will which includes any form of life interest trust over their property, placement of their Residuary Estate into any form of ‘Trust Fund’ or the creation of a Discretionary Trust, it is becoming more and more important for the Executors and Trustees to seek the advice of a qualified Wills, Trusts and Probate specialist before making your application for the Grant of Representation.

The specific terms of a trust can have implications on the available inheritance tax-free thresholds and so understanding the effect of each trust is important to ensure that the maximum thresholds available are claimed to reduce the value of the estate chargeable to inheritance tax.

The inclusion of these trusts, whilst beneficial, also come with complications which if not dealt with correctly at the outset, can lead to costly and

time-consuming work later down the line. The Executors and Trustees have a twoyear period to prepare and execute documents which could potentially minimise or resolve these complexities and so seeking advice early is imperative.

These trusts are also subject to registration with HMRC via their Trust Registration Service which should be completed within 90 days of the date of death of the testator of the Will, the responsibility for which falls on the Trustees of any Will Trust created.

If a loved one has recently passed away and their will references any form of trust and you are untsure on what to do, contact our friendly team of specialists who can advise you on dealing with these trusts correctly and effectively.

The Importance of uPVC Double Glazing Repairs

UPVC

ADVERTISING FEATURE

double glazing has revolutionized home insulation, offering energy efficiency, noise reduction, and improved security. However, like any long-term investment, it requires maintenance. Over time, seals can weaken, locks may stick, or condensation can form between panes—issues that compromise performance and comfort.

Timely uPVC double glazing repairs are not just about fixing cosmetic problems; they’re essential for maintaining thermal efficiency and keeping energy bills in check. Neglecting repairs can lead to bigger issues, including mold growth, water ingress, and increased heating costs.

Fortunately, many repairs are straightforward and cost-effective, making replacement unnecessary in most cases. From resealing window units to adjusting hinges or replacing fogged glass, professional repair services can extend the life of your windows significantly.

In an age where sustainability matters, repairing rather than replacing supports both your wallet and the environment. uPVC double glazing deserves upkeep—it’s a smart, long-term choice.

Revive Your Home & Garden: A Fresh Start for Every Season

Asthe seasons change, so too should our living spaces. Our homes and gardens are more than just physical spaces—they’re reflections of our lives, our values, and the peace we seek at the end of each day. Now is the perfect time to breathe new life into them.

Reviving your home doesn’t require a total renovation. Sometimes, it’s as simple as rearranging furniture, adding a fresh coat of paint, or introducing new textures through rugs and cushions. Embrace natural light, declutter, and allow your space to feel open, welcoming, and full of possibility. A revived home should inspire, not overwhelm.

In the garden, new life literally blooms with attention and care. Whether you have a sprawling yard or a modest balcony, plants bring vibrancy, color, and a sense of grounding. Native plants and pollinatorfriendly flowers not only look beautiful but support the ecosystem around you. Gardening isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a quiet, powerful act of sustainability and mindfulness.

This season, think of revival not as a chore, but as a celebration. Honor the spaces that hold your memories. Breathe life into forgotten corners. Nurture growth—both in your garden and within yourself. When you take the time to care for your surroundings, they give back tenfold in comfort, calm, and joy.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about intention.

Let this be your moment to revive, refresh, and reconnect—with your home, your garden, and your own sense of peace.

Enhance Garden & Curb Appeal

Visit Bournemouth Garage Doors Showroom

Bournemouth

Out the back a well-designed garden can add a great deal of value, it should feel like an extra space for entertaining or relaxing, rather than an expanse of grass. It’s essential to trim borders, clear pathways and cut back any overgrown trees or bushes, particularly if they block direct sunlight into the property.

An area of decking creates a sense of bigger usable living space and three per cent of homes sold in 2019 were even found to have a summerhouse in the garden, giving owners more space to relax and entertain in the brighter weather.

Consider repainting the exterior of your home to freshen up its appearance and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Upgrade your front door with a new coat of paint or consider replacing it with a modern, energy-efficient model.

Landscaping plays a crucial role in curb appeal. Invest in trimming bushes, mowing the lawn, and adding colourful flowers or plants to create an inviting entrance.

Home Improvements Design it right from the start

Let’s be honest, building work is expensive, especially since Brexit, Covid and the impact from inflation. Not only is it expensive but good trades men are now much harder to find which pushes prices up. That’s why it’s so important to get things right from the start, both in terms of design and the team you bring into your home. Too often I’m invited into projects to finish the scheme after the work is done but there are limitations with that as you are either dictated by what’s there or there are expenses and upheaval to make changes.

We hope to see you all at our next event on Saturday, May 17, which is our Spring Fayre - we do charge for admission but there is so much to see: Assorted stalls, face-painting, dog show, bush crafting, bouncy assault course, vegan food stalls, BBQ, bar, Farm Shop, Pram push, tombola, forging displays, tractor and motorbikes on display and crafting workshops. Last week we were able to move our six lambs and three ewes out on to grass; one of our older ewes, Friday, has never seen a lamb before and these scamps are trying to play with her all the time but she is not sure what they are! It is such a joy to have experienced the breeding process from the start, when we ‘borrowed’ Denzel the ram, and then for the ewes to have their lambs - all

beautiful, healthy and full of life!

Last week we welcomed back our farm pork - this time we have used a different butcher and we are now able to offer ‘bake-at-home sausage rolls’, along with our usual burgers and sausages, chops, ribs, etc. We’ve run out of fresh burgers and sausages but there is plenty left in the freezer so be organised and get your meat for your barbecues from us. We’re also hoping to be able to offer a range of charcuterie soon too.

This year in the polytunnel we’re trialling watering using ollas - these are terracotta unglazed pots which are sunk into the ground, and filled with water and then covered with a lid. They slowly release water into the soil near to the plant roots; not only is this a cost-saving feature, it saves the plant roots being disturbed from

The Arts Society Wimborne & Blandford is a charity which hosts monthly lectures in Wimborne (theartssocietywandb.org. uk) and it is their mission also to promote educational opportunities amongst the young.

This year the society has sponsored the Blandford School to enable students to enter the Art Bytes completion, an event which seeks to raise the profile of art in school communities. The school is asking for the public’s help by voting on line for their favourite entry which you can do at artbytes.co.uk/browseschools/ where you will see all the school’s entries (under the letter ‘T’).

Each vote really does matter as it is the public vote which decides each school’s winner, which is then exhibited in a virtual gallery before going on to contest the regional and national awards.

You can show your support by voting no later than April 28.

Hello, I am Magnus a 14-month-old German Shepherd. I have recently come to Waggy Tails and I’m really hopeful I can find my new forever home soon. I am quite large and very playful. I am very friendly towards humans and affectionate - if a little boisterous. I do know some basic commands and I am very intelligent and eager to learn, so need a home where training can be ongoing.

I am partial to any treat you may have so I think training will be quite easy! Although I have not socialised much with the other dogs here so far, I am

eager to make friends. My ideal home would be with people who perhaps have experience of large breeds or GSD’s, who are keen to carry on with my training and to make sure I get the physical and mental stimulation I need (along with lots of cuddles and many treats please).

Blackmore Vale LTD

If you are able to offer Magnus or any of his lovely friends a forever home or a foster home please contact our office on 01202 875000, e-mail: admin@waggytails.org.uk or visit our websitewaggytails.org.uk. We also have lots of other dogs looking for their forever homes.
