Sale of unusual Buddha tops £30k

lots of Moorcroft pottery, mostly from one collection, including this garniture of three vases by William Moorcroft for James Macintyre. Decorated with cornflowers and poppies, they date to circa 1910 and are expected to bring around £3,000. This Victorian Swiss music box is estimated to sell for £2,000-£3,000 in the Charterhouse June 9 and 10 two-day collectors’ auction,. “Music boxes really were a luxury only the wealthy owned in the 19th century.” said Richard Bromell. The Swiss music box is fitted in an inlaid walnut table cabinet. It plays 36 airs or tunes on six interchangeable cylinders, with the last song on the sixth cylinder rather appropriately being Auld Lang Syne. Top week for auctions

Duke’s of Dorchester will be holding three auctions within the week commencing June 13. Beginning with the Asian Art Auction on June 15 at 10:30am, with previous Asian auctions seeing record results, most notably a millionpound teapot, it’s sure to be one to watch! Thursday June 16 is the turn of Jewellery and Watches, highlight lots include this Victorian Sri Lankan (formerly Ceylon) sapphire, diamond and pearl brooch/ pendant (£10,000 - £20,000)

and a gentleman’s 18ct gold Rolex (£6,000 - £8,000). The Book Auction on June 17 contains around 50 books from the library of a remarkable local collector of English literature who sought out important association copies and first editions. The sale includes a rare copy of T E Lawrence’s Seven Pillars Of Wisdom (£30,000 - £50,000).
