M

arch is Women’s History Month and Milwaukee PBS will honor the contributions women have made to this country with programs and stories featured on air and online. In our own house, we celebrate and appreciate the women of Milwaukee PBS who we work with each day. Here are just some of the women who help tell the story of Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin as well make this station great - our hosts, Portia Young of 10THIRTYSIXTM, Patricia Gomez (also show producer) of ADELANTE!, and Sandy Maxx of THE ARTS PAGE, producers Maryann Lazarski (10THIRTYSIXTM) and Alexandria Mack (BLACK NOUVEAU), and our talented production staff (editors and videographers). On air this month you can see stories like AMERICAN MASTERS: TONI MORRISON, ONE WOMAN ONE VOTE, ANNIE OAKLEY: AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, and AMERICAN MASTERS: MAE WEST. Also you can see the return of SANDITON season two and a new season of CALL THE MIDWIFE. I am also excited to announce to new additions to the Milwaukee PBS staff.

CALL THE MIDWIFE

The return of the multi-award-winning drama, which regularly draws in audiences of over 10 million. Following an eventful Christmas special, the series continues with an episode set in Easter 1967. Celebrations are underway for a colorful Easter Bonnet parade outside Nonnatus House. Sister Monica Joan and Reggie are excited about the Eurovision song contest and Nancy, having just passed her midwifery examinations, is about to don her red cardigan for the first time. 3/20, 7 PM 10.1 Courtesy of PBS

Dan Mueller will lead our development team and fundraising efforts as our Chief Development Officer. Dan’s previous experience includes Marquette University where he served as Director of Alumni Relations and Vivent Health (formerly the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin), where he oversaw all private revenue fundraising as Chief Development Officer. While at Vivent, Mueller led the transformation of a statewide fundraising operation into a national fundraising office. Dale Palecek has been promoted to Chief Programming Officer and will guide our on-air programming efforts as well as working with local filmmakers and creatives on bringing their work to Milwaukee PBS. Dale has more than 37 years of television experience including positions as Vice President of Programming and Promotion, Program Manager, Director of Promotion and Programming and Associate Producer just to name a few. As always, thank you for watching and supporting local public media and Milwaukee PBS.

On the LOCAL SCENE 10THIRTYSIX™, ADELANTE AND BLACK NOUVEAU – Almost everyone has heard of the American Dream, the dream that with enough passion, knowledge and a little luck, people can achieve almost anything. Milwaukee PBS’s public affairs programs plan to bring you a sampling of the American Dreams that people in our community have. In addition, they continue to highlight other issues and happenings viewers want to know about. Check milwaukeepbs.org/schedule for details. In the local segment we get a tour of Milwaukee community leader Peg Ann’s personal art collection that she has acquired over five decades. OUTDOOR WISCONSIN – visits the Flyways Waterfowl Experience Museum in Baraboo and Elizabeth Cramer goes skydiving with a videographer who survived a near-fatal landing. Emmy Fink takes us behind the scenes at Canoecopia and we follow a young female marathoner, who despite living with a debilitating autoimmune disease, is running and blogging to empower others through social media. AROUND THE CORNER WITH JOHN MCGIVERN™ – Check out these great communities featured this month on Milwaukee PBS, Whitefish Bay, Stoughton, Delavan and a special program called Around the Map in southeast Wisconsin.
