together for Palestine refugees On 29 August, 2018 thanks to the steadfast support of its top donor community led by the European Union, UNRWA opened its doors to 526,000 students across the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Through the EU-UNRWA Back to School campaign, first grade students attending EU sponsored schools received some 10,000 backpacks filled with supplies- equipping our youth with the tools they need to succeed. This album is their story. #EU_UNRWA #forPalestinerefugees #Back2School

Officials from the European Union showed their support for the Palestine refugee community and UNRWA students by attending a number of the Agency’s #Back2School launch ceremonies. Pictured here, UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl addresses the community at the West Bank launch ceremony on 29 August 2018 at UNRWA Jalazone Basic Girls’ School. The Office of the European Union Representative in Jerusalem’s Head of Section, Michael Vögele, and his staff participated in the festivities.

2018 In the West Bank, around 500 girls and boys from Hebron, Dura, and Beit Jala areas received their EU-UNRWA backpacks filled with supplies on the first day of school. The seven schools participating in the distribution are also part of the EU sponsored facilities programme, an initiative that sees through the improvement and upkeep of 50 EU sponsored UNRWA schools across the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan and Lebanon. At UNRWA Beit Jala Co-Educational School, the bag distribution was accompanied with games and smiles!

In Jordan, boys and girls excitedly explored the contents of their backpacks and tried them on for size with their friends. Teachers also enjoyed being able to participate, watching their little learners discuss with delight the school year’s start.
