20 Years of Action for Global Environment
Over the last two decades, the Small Grants Programme (SGP) has supported communities to respond to environment and development challenges with sustainable livelihoods, community nature-based enterprises, and microfinance approaches that alleviate poverty, provide income, increase food security, and enhance overall well being. This publication presents the history and evolution of the SGP. It provides an account of its principal features: diverse partnerships which are its mainstay; and, the results and benefits achieved. Since its launch in 1992, the SGP has stayed true to its mandate of providing local and global environmental benefits within the framework of UNDP’s sustainable development mission. GLOSSARY OF SHARED WATER RESOURCES
TECHNICAL, SOCIOECONOMIC AND LEGAL TERMINOLOGY ENGLISH-ARABIC
This glossary was prepared by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in cooperation with the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) of Germany. It is a response to a request from the sixth session of the Committee of Water Resources at ESCWA, which called for a clearly explained vocabulary for use in describing internationallyshared surface and groundwater. Adopting a unified English-Arabic common terminology is thus expected to harmonize understanding of the technical, socio-economic, environmental, institutional and legal issues related to the joint management of shared water resources. This glossary is intended to be used by specialists, including decision makers and negotiators from different Western Asian and Arab countries. Publisher: United Nations

It highlights the role that social movements play in changing Asian cities for the better. Papers written by eminent urban experts outline urban challenges specific to five sub-regions: North and North-East Asia, South-East Asia, South and South-West Asia, North and Central Asia and the Pacific. This report is a product of cities’ and local governments’ efforts to protect their cities and make them safer and productive places to live and work. Today, with more that half of the world’s population living in urban areas, building resilience to natural hazards has become a pressing challenge that cannot be ignored. Recognition of the inextricable links among disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development reveals the critical challenges that still remain. UNISDR and global partners in the Making Cities Resilient Campaign: My City is Getting Ready! continue to accompany local authorities as they tackle these issues and take action to minimize the impact of natural hazards on those most at risk.
