Best Practice Guidance for Effective Management of Coal Mine Methane at National Level Monitoring, Reporting, Verification and Mitigation
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) While Methane (CH4) is the second most prevalent anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) after carbon dioxide (CO2), the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the former is 28-34 times higher than that of the latter. Coal mining is a major source of methane emissions, accounting for about 12% of global total anthropogenic emissions of that gas. Action on methane requires a solid understanding of emission sources at national, subnational, and local levels. Only with reliable emissions data, can policymakers design effective GHG policies, evaluate mitigation opportunities, and comply with their international climate commitments. Human Development Report 2021/2022
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Continuing the thread of the 2019 and 2020 HDRs, this year's HDR carries forward a conversation centered on inequalities while integrating other important themes related to uncertainties in the Anthropocene: societal-level transformations, mental health impacts, political polarization, but also, crucially, opportunity. The Report explores how uncertainty in the Anthropocene is changing, what is driving it, what it means for human development, and how we can thrive in spite of it. The report argues that, in the end, doubling down on human development is central to a more prosperous future for all.

The Least Developed Countries Report 2021 LDCs in the Post-COVID World – Learning From 50 Years of Experience
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) This publication takes stock of 50 years of development experience since the establishment of the LDC category in 1971. Most LDCs growth has been erratic. This stems largely from the inefficacy of domestic and international policies in addressing structural impediments to structural transformation, i.e. low level of productive capacities, excessive export orientation, limited policy space, weak State capacity, limited and entrepreneurial development. The report proposes an overhaul of development policies and strategies in favour of initiatives that are centred on the development of productive capacities and led by a developmental State, which successfully aligns foreign agents’ dealings with LDCs to national development goals and priorities. Industrial Development Report 2022
The Future of Industrialization in a Post-Pandemic World
United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) The global economy cannot fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic unless internationally coordinated actions are taken, and the industrial sector must be central to these efforts. The COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated that manufacturing remains the backbone of our economies. Yet, it also shows the vulnerability of our production systems to sudden shocks. For recovery to take hold, it is critical to understand how the pandemic has affected the sector—and the prospects for the future of industrialization as economies worldwide continue to rebound and recover. This report contributes to the discussion by providing evidence at the country, industry, and firm level and documents the impacts of the crisis, by examining the drivers of resilience and vulnerability in those contexts. Commodities and Development Report 2021
Escaping From the Commodity Dependence Trap through Technology and Innovation United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
Commodity dependence is a trap: once a country is commodity dependent, it is difficult to develop a productive sector out of commodities and export noncommodity products. This publication argues that without strong action at the highest political level in Commodity-dependent Developing Countries (CDDCs), these countries will remain trapped for centuries. It demonstrates how technology and innovation could lead the way to economic and structural transformation in CDDCs, helping to diversify economies and lessen dependence on the commodity sector and, in turn, strengthen productivity growth. Enabling CDDCs to escape from the commodity dependence trap requires stronger cooperation between CDDCs and their trading and development partners with regard to technological acquisition. Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Report 2021
Accelerating Climate-Smart Trade and Investment for Sustainable Development
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) International trade and investment have been indispensable engines of economic growth and remain essential means of implementation for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, this economic growth has come with significant social and environmental costs, including the rapidly worsening climate crisis. This report is focuses on how “climate-smart” trade and investment-related policies can help address climate change, taking into account the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The links between trade, investment and climate change are complex. The key is to ensure that the positive effects of trade and investment are maximized, such as by promoting trade and investment in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies, while the negative effects are minimized, such as by digitalizing trade and transport systems. From Recovery to Resilience: The Development Dimension
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) This report analyses the state of the world economy, a year and half after the COVID-19 outbreak was declared. The first part outlines key macro-financial aspects of the global economy, focusing, in particular, on the prospects for a growth recovery while analyzing possible threats from public and private debt, from inflationary spikes as well as from a return to the policies of the past. It revisits the analyses provided in previous editions in response to shocks, setbacks, and crises that have hampered development during the era of hyperglobalization and underscores its abiding call for an inclusive global economic governance. The second part focuses on climate adaptation. It calls for a transformative approach to climate adaptation, with largescale public investment programmes to adapt to future as well as current threats, and green industrial policies to drive growth and job creation.

Disability at a Glance 2021
The Shaping of Disability-inclusive Employment in Asia and the Pacific
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Disability-inclusive employment has yet to be achieved in the Asia-Pacific region, home to 472 million working-age persons with disabilities. Employment data concerning persons with disabilities are scarce across countries in the region. Where such data do exist, persons with disabilities - especially women, youth, and rural habitants among them - are found to fare worse than those without in the labor market. Disability at a Glance 2021: The Shaping of Disability-inclusive Employment in Asia and the Pacific seeks to equip ESCAP members and associate members with updated information and insights on promoting employment for persons with disabilities in the region, through snapshots of the latest figures, trends, policy developments, and inspirational practices. The State of the World's Children 2021
On My Mind Promoting, Protecting and Caring for Children’s Mental Health United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)
The COVID-19 pandemic has raised huge concerns for the mental health of an entire generation of children. But it may represent only the tip of a mental health iceberg we have ignored for far too long. This report examines the mental health of children and adolescents. Against a backdrop of rising awareness of mental health issues, there is now a unique opportunity to promote good mental health for every child, protect vulnerable children, and care for children facing the greatest challenges. Making that happen will require urgent investment in child and adolescent mental health across sectors – not just in health – to support proven interventions. It will also need societies to break the silence surrounding mental health, by addressing stigma, promoting understanding, and taking seriously the experiences of children and young people. The United Nations Guide to Model UN United Nations
Model United Nations (MUN) simulations are popular exercises for those interested in learning more about the UN. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of students worldwide participate every year in MUN at all educational levels in schools and universities. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts participated in MUN as students. Some MUNs however do not follow the actual rules and practices used at the UN. This guide is designed for students and teachers on how to organize and participate in MUNs that simulate the way the UN actually works.

2022 Special Report on Human Security
New Threats to Human Security in the Anthropocene: Demanding Greater Solidarity United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
The report finds a development conundrum. Despite people on average living longer, healthier, and wealthier lives, these advances have not succeeded in increasing people’s sense of security. This is true for countries right across the development spectrum, with perceptions of insecurity worsening most in several high-income countries, even before the COVID-19 pandemic. The report links new threats with the disconnect between people and planet in pursuit of development, arguing that they are deeply entwined with increasing planetary pressure.

ACTION AREAS 2022 “I want to begin the year by raising five alarms — on COVID19,
global finance, climate action, lawlessness in cyberspace, and peace and security. We face a five-alarm global fire that requires the full mobilization of all countries.” – UN Secretary-General António Guterres
The UN Secretary-General’s report on Our Common Agenda offers a road map to gather the world together, in solidarity, to address these governance challenges and reinvigorate multilateralism for the twenty-first century. The below five action areas will help make 2022 a year in which we forge a new, more hopeful and equal path.
Tackle the Pandemic
Build sustainable peace
Transform the global financial system
Put people first in the digital world
Take urgent climate action
