The school is top notch, it’s a 10 out of 10. Classes I took helps me every day. Accessory trends helps with body issues, it shows us fiberglass work, how to repair small things. Customs class, our high-performance drive lines class and steering and suspension, hydraulics, everything. Founded in 1920, the University of Northwestern Ohio has grown from a small secretarial school with dozens of students in downtown Lima, to a 200-acre campus, educating nearly 4,000 students annually majoring in anything from Business Administration and Marketing to High Performance Motorsports and Diesel Technology. There’s always a high demand for diesel, especially in today’s world where everything’s ran off diesel and that’s just the moneymaker. The things I enjoy in some of my diesel classes is how hands-on the classes are. I love that the teachers are always one on one with you. If you have a question, they will go out of their way to help you out. Because there’s only 15 to 20 kids in a class, it makes life so much easier than spending class with 50 kids, trying to learn one thing at a time.”

We go from programming to maintenance to literally designing digital touchscreens. It’s a lot of stuff and we go through many different job opportunities that are out there in the robotics field. When I pull apart these big robots I’m like, “Wow, this is awesome.” And I want to go into my job and be excited to be there every day. So if I’m going to be excited about something I might as well make that my career.”

With the Alternate Fuels program you learn the basics on how to set up and diagnose and assist with all these different fuel types which is what today’s modern trends are as manufacturers try to get emission levels down. It’s a great opportunity with all the new technology coming out to be able to learn how to set newer fuel systems up on older vehicles, and be able to diagnose and repair the new vehicles with the alternate fuel systems already built in.”

Here at UNOH, they have such a variety of older and newer equipment that you’re getting to see the whole envelope, not just the new stuff, but the old stuff that’s still out there and will still be out there for another 15 to 20 years. What caught my attention about UNOH was definitely the Motorsports Marketing program. It was a program that I hadn’t seen offered anywhere else, and I grew up in the motorsports world racing dirt bikes, and I knew I wanted to stay in it. I just didn’t know how yet. Seeing this program at UNOH made me figure out my career path and where I wanted to go. In class we learn everything about the sanctioning body class, where you learn about NASCAR and ARCA, and the organizations that create the rules, to the event planning class where we get to learn how to put on events and even a sponsorship class which are all things you need to know to be successful in motorsports marketing.”
