UVMB University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest


Why UVMB? Over 230 years of tradition in veterinary education. More than 30 years of experience with teaching international students. Practice oriented training in small groups (8-15 students) – 1800 contact hours with animals. Small, friendly, centrally located campus in the heart of Budapest – students and teachers easily get to know each other (all together approximately 1500-1600 students). European degree – EAEVE accreditation: the degree received at UVMB is accepted automatically by the member countries of the European Union and in several other countries of the world. The preparation of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation is in progress. After obtaining it, graduates will be able to get their license in the US and Canada.

Our Summer School is designed for students who are passionate about veterinary science and considering studying at our University. We aim to show as much as possible from this beautiful profession while you get a chance to get to know other like-minded international students.

General requirements The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest seeks students with a high school leaving certificate, good command of English, and strong motivation to study and practice veterinary medicine. Admission is granted based on an entrance exam (the students’ educational background in science subjects is not relevant as long as they take a successful entrance exam). The entrance examination aims to test (in oral and written form) knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, competency in English language in general and also in relation to academic subjects. Entrance exams are organized online or in person in several countries all around the world (see list at www.univet.hu/en).

Application and admission How can you apply? Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until 30 June each year. In case of vacancies further applications are also welcome until the end of August. Students or their local representatives need to apply via email (vetmed@univet.hu) by sending the application documents and paying the application fee.

You learn how to cure diseases. Practical work at the university clinics in the 11th semester. Example subjects: Surgery, Animal Hygiene, Food Hygiene etc.

After acceptance Registration fee: 220 EUR Tuition fee: 7,700 EUR (first semester) + 4,780 EUR (second semester) = 12,480 EUR (total/year) (The deposit of 800 EUR is payable two weeks after acceptance. It is part of the first semester’s tuition fee and is non-refundable.)

After 5.5 years of studies, students receive a Master’s degree with the title Doctor of Veterinary Medicine


UVMB info One of the first veterinary universities in the world (founded in 1787). It is a state university and the only veterinary school in Hungary. In 2013 UVMB received the Research University title for its outstanding scientific achievements. The programme lasts 5.5 years divided into 11 semesters. Out of the 97 veterinary universities in Europe, UVMB was the 7th that received the European accreditation (EAEVE - European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education) in 1995. The entire curriculum consists of more than 5000 hours – the standard for the European Community. The educational program curriculum contains lectures, practicums, and field or extramural practice (lectures are given for the entire term, practicums are held in a tutorial system with 8-15 students in a group).

City Country info info Budapest is the capital of Hungary with around 2 million inhabitants (one of the largest cities in the European Union). It is the cultural, educational and economic centre of Hungary.

Hungary is located in Central Europe (it has borders with Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia). It is a European Union member since 2004.
