Community Service

Their Blood Runs Orange!

Many students go way beyond USJ’s requirement of 50 hours of community service to graduate. For Gram Northern and Hannah Russell, UT Knoxville is a family tradition. “I have more than 25 family members through four generations who have either graduated or are currently enrolled in UTK,” Gram said. “I was raised a Vol and always will be one, and I am very grateful to my parents for exposing me to this passion.” Hannah’s parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin, and brother have graduated from UTK, and her sister is a junior there. “I guess you could say I have orange in my blood,” she said. “Since I can remember, I have been in orange shirts and screaming, ‘Go Vols!’ I really feel at home there, even though it’s five hours away. I’m so glad I can carry on the tradition.” Gram will major in chemical engineering and minor in business and Spanish. Hannah will major in bio-molecular engineering and pre-medicine and minor in Spanish.
