International excellence
Excellence in education The University of Wolverhampton is a leading modern university with a tradition of providing opportunity and academic excellence dating back 180 years. Today we offer over 300 courses across our four faculties, with over 4,000 students graduating each year. The University is extremely proud to share some great news about its most recent review by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). We have received a commendation, the highest possible accolade for ‘the enhancement of student learning opportunities’. This is even more impressive as we are the only university in the West Midlands region to receive a commendation in its most recent QAA report. In May 2015 we also announced an unprecedented £250m investment over the next five years.
Jo Gittens Director, International University of Wolverhampton
“I am glad that you are here in Kuala Lumpur and I hope that you enjoy your few days with us. The University of Wolverhampton has always had strong international connections. From the opening of the first overseas Regional Centre in Hong Kong in 1996, we have grown to deliver courses and provide support across the globe. Agreements have been signed over the years with numerous institutions including Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Dominica, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Russia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. I look forward to meeting with you all again and to fruitful discussions about the future and growth in international higher education.”
The Our Vision, Your Opportunity strategy will boost jobs and investment in our region and deliver more world-class facilities for our students.

Transnational commitment
wlv.ac.uk
Our commitment to transnational education The benefits for international students of coming to the UK to study are well documented. UK degrees remain highly regarded but it is not always possible for international students to travel overseas to study. Transnational education (TNE) is enabling students to reap the rewards of a UK degree delivered on their doorstep. The University of Wolverhampton’s commitment to TNE supports widening participation at a global level and forms a critical part of its internationalisation agenda.
A global presence Through its strong links with many overseas universities, partner institutions and governments, the University of Wolverhampton plays a vital role in the delivery of high quality education and training to the UK and wider global community. Students have the opportunity to participate in exchange schemes enabling them to study at a partner institution for a period of time, or undertake work placements/internships, supporting the development of a global approach and outlook.
New partnerships
The University of Wolverhampton has regional offices in China, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, and Vietnam and 20,000 students, including almost 2,500 international students from over 100 countries studying in the UK. Through its network of partners, the University delivers courses in an increasing number of countries, including:
New partnerships are also being developed in sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia and the Indian sub-continent.
China, Cyprus, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Oman, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and United Arab Emirates.
With a strong vision and an excellent track record in delivering transnational education, the University is well placed to take on the challenges posed by a new era in higher education. The international market is broad and diverse, and exciting opportunities for collaboration, including further enhancing existing collaboration, are never far away.
Regional graduations are a growing feature of the University’s activity, bringing together families and friends to celebrate success as part of the wider University of Wolverhampton community.

Exciting times for the University Campus investment
The University’s new £25 million Rosalind Franklin Science Centre has opened its doors to students and staff. The sixstorey building features state-of-the-art laboratories and heads up a series of enhancements to teaching facilities, including a £300,000 refurbishment of our pharmacy suite.
Reaching further with our research
Research at the University of Wolverhampton is at its highest ever level after being commended as ‘worldleading’ by the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014). Carried out every five years, the REF evaluates the quality and impact of research at UK universities across all disciplines. Among the areas with recognised world-leading elements were health, history and modern languages research plus work by Mike Thelwall, renowned Professor of Information Science, and his team. We were also delighted to retain the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award in recognition of our commitment to good working conditions and career development for researchers.
Work is also well underway on the new Business School. The £18 million flagship building will sit at the heart of the University’s City Campus in Wolverhampton. The six storey centre will house an executive education suite, innovative teaching and learning spaces, an IT suite, consulting rooms and a central social space and café. Following more than 80 years of providing business education in the city, the new building aims to reflect the University of Wolverhampton Business School’s growing reputation and engagement with the business community in the region.
Connecting alumni globally
Expanding our links with our overseas graduate community, we launched the Malaysia Alumni Association last year at a special event in London. Former Wolverhampton Law student and now Head of State for Sabah, His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar Bin Datuk Haji Mahiruddin, is the Honorary President of the Association, and was in attendance at the event which also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Universiti Malaysia Sabah, of which His Excellency is also Chancellor. His Excellency graduated from Wolverhampton Polytechnic in the 1980s, going on to be called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn before embarking on his political career in Malaysia. The Malaysia Alumni Association offers graduates in Malaysia the opportunity to reconnect with each other and the University of Wolverhampton, offering a range of benefits and services including networking events. The Association adds to an already far reaching collection of overseas alumni associations, including Hong Kong, Mauritius, Nigeria and India.
