WHAT ARE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES? The field of environmental sciences integrates physical, biological and information sciences into the study of the environment. The world’s ever-increasing environmental challenges have created an urgency for environmental scientists who are needed to help conserve and manage social-ecological systems.
WHY ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES AT UVM? • UVM’s environmental sciences major is flexible and rigorous combining a natural science-based core curriculum with hands-on environmental coursework, internships and research opportunities designed to engage students in tackling real-world environmental problems. • As a cross-college program, UVM’s environmental sciences major draws expertise from many departments and disciplines on campus offering students an interdisciplinary foundation in ecology, biology, plant biology, plant and soil science, chemistry, biology and physics. • Nestled between the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain, UVM is surrounded by rich and diverse natural and managed areas offering endless opportunities to explore environmental sciences. • Our outstanding faculty are both professors and active environmental research scientists.
