Mining engineers are trained to determine the safest, most effective, and sustainable methods of recovering the earth’s mineral resources to sustain modern civilization.

One of the strengths of the mining engineering program is paid internships during the summer! No need to wait until graduation to see what working at a mine site will be like.

Summer internships give you on site experience while getting paid $20-25/hour.

Careers More than 50% of our graduates know where they will be working before they graduate.

In addition, starting salaries for mining engineers are among the highest in all of the engineering disciplines, $65,000-$72,000/year.

The mining curriculum combines basic engineering, geology, and mining courses to prepare graduates to discover, evaluate, and develop mineral deposits.

Technical electives allow you to choose classes of special interest to you. These can range from Safety and Health to Sustainability to Business to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and more.

The department also has an endowed scholarship available for mining engineering majors. The William Browning Scholarship is a renewable $4000/year award for students following the program. Application priority deadline is February 15th.
