We’re glad you’re here. Heritage Commons is home to the majority of our campus residents and includes Officers Circle, Sage Point, Shoreline Ridge, Benchmark Plaza, Chapel Glen, and Gateway Heights communities. The Peterson Heritage Center (PHC), the hub of campus living, is just away from your front door. Read on to learn more about living on campus!

PETERSON HERITAGE CENTER FRONT DESK SERVICES DESK SERVICES

The PHC is open 24 hours a day when school is in session. Our friendly desk and mailroom assistants can assist you with questions and equipment check out. In addition to the front desk, you can also contact your Resident Advisor between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. with any emergency or immediate needs. RA phone numbers will be provided at your first community meeting. They are also posted on RA doors in your area.

KEYS & DOOR ACCESS

Your room key and UCard allow you to access your room and building and should never be shared with anyone. If you misplace one, you can borrow a loaner from the PHC Front Desk. Loaner keys and temporary access cards are free for 30 minutes, or can be checked out for up to seven days for a $10 fee. If you lose your key, we will change your locks and charge you a replacement fee ($60 - $100). If you need a new UCard, please visit the UCard office in the Union Building.

MAIL & PACKAGES

Please limit visits to the desk to once per week for mail pick-up. We also ask that you try to limit your mail to essential items only.

All students who live on campus will be issued a mailing address. You can mail packages and paper mail to this address. We utilize a package locker system for residents. Your mailing address and instructions about paper mail, mail pick up, and our package locker system was sent to your UMail in early August.

Mail is processed daily by the mailroom in your area, and you will be notified by email when something has arrived for you. During peak time, expect longer processing times. You will pick up paper mail from the front desk in your area, and packages will be sorted into lockers. You will access the locker holding your package with a code that was emailed to you. Packages are only kept for seven days before being returned. Perishable items are only kept for 24 hours.

Note: we cannot share addresses with friends, parents, or family members. Please share your address as needed so that care packages or other fun items find their way to you.

EQUITY LOUNGE & LIVING ROOM Hours: Sun-Thurs, 3-11 p.m.

Lounge: Located on the ground level of benchmark 822 Living Room: Locaed on the first floor of Kahlert Village The Equity Lounge and Equity Living Room house the Social Justice Advocates and provide spaces where all residents are welcome, all identities are embraced, and you can feel free to be yourself.

TRANSPORTATION FOR HOUSING RESIDENTS CAMPUS SHUTTLES

Campus shuttles are a free and convenient weekday service for you and campus guests! Shuttles have a late night service as well with a reduced schedule, but they do not run on the weekends or holidays.

The campus shuttle system transports students all over campus. This free service is especially useful for on-campus residents — as the Red, Blue, and Orange routes stop at the Peterson Heritage Center and Chapel Glen.

SAFE RIDE

SafeRide is a free after-hours service for students managed by Commuter Services. It is operated by University student employees. SafeRide functions similarly to other rideshare programs like Uber or Lyft but only operates within university boundaries, Monday - Friday from 6 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.

Students may request a ride by downloading the TapRide app and following the prompts.

SLC PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

The university’s agreement with UTA provides students access to UTA buses, TRAX and FrontRunner trains at no additional cost using your UCard. The TRAX Red Line and several UTA bus routes come directly to campus, making public transportation accessible to students living on campus.

Buses run around parts of campus and there are TRAX stations in front of the MHC and at the Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Your UCard is your free transportation pass for services on TRAX, buses, and the FrontRunner. When boarding and exiting, tap your UCard at the scanners on either end of the TRAX platform or at the bus entrance.

Bus and TRAX schedules may be found on the buses, at the TRAX station, or online at www.rideuta.com. There is also a trip planner on the UTA website. Just type in where you are, where you would like to go, and the time you want to leave and arrive.

REMINDER: You must tap on and off when utilizing TRAX or the city buses

PARKING ON CAMPUS You likely won't need a car while living on campus. We strongly encourage you to consider alternate transportation methods rather than bringing a car with you to campus. If you choose to bring a vehicle with you, you will need to purchase a parking permit from Commuter Services. A variety of permits are available to housing residents. For more information on parking or to purchase a parking pass online please visit Commuter Services’ website: commuterservices.utah.edu REGISTER YOUR BICYCLE! PARKING PERMITS Bikes can be registered through the Commuter Services Commuter Services has virtual parking permits, and your license plate is website. DINING SERVICES PHC DINING HALL

The PHC Dining Room offers buffet-style dining and has the most variety in Heritage Commons. If you have a meal plan, you’ll mainly use your meals here with you UCard, but anyone can dine at the PHC by paying at the entrance. Meal plan changed will only be accepted the first week of the semester. Have dietary concerns? For most, we have a solution! Visit G8 in the PHC Dining Room where meals are prepared without the eight most commons allergens: dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, spy, wheat/gluten. Students will also find a vegan-focused station with food prepared by our dedicated vegan chef! For specific questions, visit: dineoncampus.com/utah

CRIMSON CORNER

Crimson Corner is a convenience store located on the main floor of the PHC. It has freshly made pastries, salads, sandwiches, bottled beverages, and a Starbucks coffee cafĂŠ. Students with meal plans can use dining dollars or flex dollars here, but anyone can purchase items from Crimson Corner. Crimson Corner is open every day from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. (midnight).

There are a variety of other dining locations on campus to fit your needs, including the Union Building Food Court, Einstein’s Brothers Bagel, Crimson View restaurant, England Hub, Mom’s Cafe, the Honors Market, Smart Shake, Miller Cafe, and so much more!

TRANSFER MEALS

Sometimes busy class schedules may make it tough to get back to the PHC for every meal.

Transfer meals now allow students to use their meals at seven additional locations on campus, including the Honors Market, Miller Cafe, The Hive, Crimson View, Crimson Corner, Lund Commons, and the Student Life Center. A transfer meal can be used for up to $5 value at breakfast and $7 value at lunch and dinner.

TO-GO MEALS

Individuals with meal plans will be given a to-go container that can be used for two to-go meals a day at the PHC Dining Room.

URBAN BYTES AT KAHLERT VILLAGE

Our newest and largest eatery on campus! Urban Bytes is an all-you-can-eat dining room located on the first floor of Kahlert Village. You can use your meal plan here or pay with card or cash at the entrance. Visit Urban Bytes for a daily rotating menu with a variety of stations like The Nook - all day breakfast, Carrots - salad bar, 500 Degrees oven fired pizza, Taqueria – tacos, burritos, etc., G8 – free of the eight most common allergens, Mongolian Grill, The Game – sports grill, and more!

THE HIVE

We are excited to announce the newest dining location in Heritage Commons. The Hive is a late-night pizza joint located just south of Benchmark Plaza. Meal transfers and flex dollars will be accepted. The Hive is open every day from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. during the Fall Semester.

UCARDS You'll need your UCard for a lot of things on campus! You will receive your UCards with your welcome packet when you check in during your assigned move-in time this August. PAYING HOUSING BILLS All housing and meal plan charges are included with your tuition bill. This bill will be paid through University Income Accounting & Student Loan Services. The HRE office will not accept payments. You can view your tuition bill online in CIS. All housing and meal plan charges are due when tuition is due, unless you have signed up for a payment plan. CAMPUS COURTESY ESCORT

Campus courtesy escorts are always available as a resource to students while on campus. You can request an escort to your residence hall, car, or any campus building.

CAMPUS ALERT

The Campus Alert system sends text messages to notify students of any safety threats, weather conditions, or other important updates to keep students informed. This system is also used to send any housing specific instructions to residents. All students are automatically signed up for this service. Visit campusalert.utah.edu to learn more.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS & PRIVACY ACT (FERPA) If you would like to allow individuals to access your Housing U account to pay your bill, you will need to release your FERPA rights through Housing U in CIS. FERPA only allows others access to the student's relevant financial information and applies to minors enrolled in the University. Once logged in, select “FERPA Consent Release Form”, check Housing and Residential Education as an area of release, and create a pin. Please remember to share your pin with anybody that you would like to have access to your account. Contact the Office of the Registrar for more information about FERPA.

CLEANING SERVICE To help maintain our facilities for years to come, the HRE custodial staff will clean common areas throughout Heritage Commons. These areas include lounges, study spaces, and shared areas throughout the buildings.

Custodial staff may also clean inside apartments or residence hall rooms between semesters as needed. If this applies to your space, you will be contacted directly.

RECYCLING If you live in Chapel Glen, Gateway Heights, where you can dispose of all your recyclables. A list of acceptable items is located on the bins.

If you live in Shoreline Ridge or Benchmark Plaza, there are blue dumpsters in the parking lots for your recyclables. Glass recycling is available south-west of The Hive.

Please do not contaminate the recycling bins with prohibited materials like trash or glass.

TAILGATING FREE ZONE Residential buildings are locked 24 hours a day and are only accessible to students who live there.

Tailgating is when you let someone in the building without an escort. All visitors should be escorted in and out of a building by a resident. It’s not rude to be safe! Do not let people in a building if they don’t have tap access to get in.

2020 RESIDENT ADDENDUM TO THE HOUSING & RESIDENTIAL EDUCATION AGREEMENT Housing & Residential Education is dedicated to doing its best to maintain a clean environment for students who choose to live on campus during the Novel Coronavirus pandemic. As you can imagine this is a challenging task and requires diligence on the part of everyone, including residents. Please plan to help us by doing your part in keeping your living spaces clean and complying with the CDC guidance on Covid-19 spread prevention (covering coughs/sneezes, regular hand washing, physical distancing, wearing a face covering, etc.). By choosing to live on campus, you agree to abide by all CDC, campus, local, state and federal guidelines for the well-being of the community and staff members.

- I understand and agree that if a roommate or apartment-mate becomes ill with Covid-19, I will need to follow guidance by the HRE department and health officials, which will likely include isolating in-place for 14 days.

- I understand that I may be required to be tested for symptoms of Covid-19 (temperature checks, nasal swabs, etc.) and provide test results to HRE in order to support the safety of the community.

- I understand that I have contracted for a housing space and not a specific room. If circumstances arise, such as closing a building, I may be re-assigned to an alternate space.

HRE has extended the contract cancellation deadline to June 15 so that students could evaluate their own health and safety plan. While we would - I understand that Dining Services will continue to comply with Health like for you to be part of the on-campus community, we understand if this is department guidance and may be primarily in a “To Go� format or limited seating format for the year. not the environment that best fits your needs at this time.
