Not all classrooms have four walls

Geoscientists study the Earth’s physical structure and substances and the wild processes that act on them. They also research the most economic and sustainable ways to utilize the Earth’s resources.

Reflecting the complexity of the natural world in which they work, most geoscientists possess interdisciplinary skills (including chemistry, biology, engineering, and computer science) and often work in teams with other scientists whose expertise complements their own.

Start exploring Classes The Geology and Geophysics Department offers three different B.S. degrees in: • Geological Engineering • Geoscience emphasis areas: Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Geoscience

• Earth Science Composite Teaching A minor in Earth Science is also offered.

Geoscience students at the U enjoy hands-on learning experiences in the classroom, lab, and field to become knowledgeable about the materials that make up the solid earth, the dynamic structure of our planet, crucial natural resources and the long history of earth from its origin more than four billion years ago.

Career

Opportunities Undergraduate research opportunities are available and highly recommended.

All students are required to take GEO 2500 Wasatch in the Field to experience field camp early in their program.

Toward the end of their program, Geoscience and Geological Engineering students are required to complete Field Geology as their final capstone experience.

Starting salaries for Geoscientists can range from $40,000-$120,000/year!
