WHAT IS BLOCK 44?

These apartments are located very close to the main campus at 380 South and 400 East in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are located close to light rail transit (TRAX) within the Block 44 apartment complex but are managed by Housing & Residential Education.

U of U apartments have staff members hired through HRE who support U of U residents and provide opportunities to connect residents with campus life.

TRANSPORTATION & PARKING Parking and Transportation is easy when living downtown! With many free UTA bus and TRAX options, you can easily get from Block 44 to the main University of Utah campus. Should you choose to drive a car to the main university campus, you will need to purchase a parking pass from Commuter Services. A variety of permits are available to housing residents. For more information about how to purchase a parking pass through Commuter Services, please visit commuterservices.utah.edu Should you need parking on-site at Block 44, read below.

PARKING AT BLOCK 44

Students can sign up for an assigned, underground parking spot at Block 44 by visiting HRE’s Optional Service website: https://housing.utah.edu/apply -reserve/optional-services/ Spots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis for HRE designated spots. The cost for assigned parking is $60/month.

Students with a permit will be assigned a parking fob and parking hang tag. The parking hang tag must be displayed at all times. Failure to park in your assigned spot or display the hang tag associated with your car may result in your car being towed at your expense. Replacement parking fobs can be purchased for a cost of $50.

Additional policies regarding assigned parking are as follows: All vehicles must have current license plates and registration tags clearly displayed. Your vehicle information must be kept current with Block 44 staff. Vehicles must be kept clean and in operable condition. Residents and guests who park in fire lanes, reserved parking, or undesignated parking will be towed at the owner’s expense. Parking of boats, campers, recreational vehicles, and commercial purpose vehicles is prohibited. Vehicle repair is prohibited. Vehicles parked in the garage without a permit will be towed at the owner’s expense.

HRE reserves the right to change parking assignments and policies upon written notice to the resident. Guests or residents without a Block 44 assigned spot should use street parking. Guests can also sign up for temporary parking at SimplyPermits.com

BIKES

There is limited bike rack storage available at Block 44 within the garage spaces. Students are permitted to store their bikes in their apartments, however, bikes are not allowed to be stored on balconies. A bike fix-it station is also available for use on the 2nd floor level of the building.

Resident shall report in writing to HRE any changes to the make, model and license plate number of every vehicle authorized to park at the Community.

REGISTER YOUR BICYCLE! Bikes can be registered through the Commuter Services website. There is a “Free Bicycle Registration” link at the bottom of the page. Visit: commuterservices.utah.edu/ Residents should only park their bicycles in designated bicycle parking areas. Residents should avoid locking their bikes onto railings and trees.

SLC PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) provides both bus and train transportation for free for University of Utah residents. The buses can take you anywhere in the Salt Lake City area, including the Salt Lake International Airport. TRAX has lines from campus to downtown Salt Lake and, from there, along the northern and southern routes along I-15.

Buses frequently travel from downtown to the University of Utah campus. The closest bus stops to Block 44 are right outside the Salt Lake City Library (only 2 blocks away). The nearest TRAX stop to Block 44 is the “Library” stop; just 1.5 blocks away! From there, you can ride to several on-campus TRAX stations including those in front of the Rice Eccles Stadium, South Campus area, or Marriot Honors Community.

All UTA services are free for U of U students with their UCard. When boarding and exiting, simply tap your UCard at the scanners on either end of the TRAX platform or at the bus entrance.

DINING SERVICES Being a resident of U of U at Block 44 puts you in the center of downtown Salt Lake City! As a downtown resident, you have access to a variety of dining locations on and off campus! Enrolling in a meal plan is an easy and convenient service that will allow you to dine at all the newest locations on campus! Block 44 residents will be able to select from one of five meal plans: • Block 40 • Block 150 • Plan 8 • Plan 15 • Plan 21

ON CAMPUS DINING HUBS

You can use your meal plans on campus by either using traditional meals at the Peterson Heritage Center Dining Room or the newest eatery, Urban Bytes, on the first floor in Kahlert Village. If your meal plan allows transfer meals, you can dine at a variety of other locations across campus, including Crimson View on the fourth floor of The Union, Miller Café in Lassonde Studios, Honors Market in the MHC, The Hive in Heritage Commons, and the Student Life Center! You can also use your Flex Dollars anywhere on campus.For more information about meal plans and dining locations, visit housing.utah.edu/dining

USING DWELO Dwelo is the service you will use to access your apartment. As previously mentioned, you will not use a hard key to access your apartment, rather, you will always use your personal Dwelo pin. You are able to set up your pin prior to your move-in day, and will receive an email to your personal email address from Dwelo prompting you to set up your account (login, password, and pin). If you don’t see the email, check your spam folder. Follow the instructions in the email to set up your Dwelo profile and pin. Ultimately, once you move in, the pin can be entered directly on the door keypad of your apartment or, it can be entered on your smart phone through the Dwelo app.

To use your smart phone to access your apartment 1. Open the Dwelo mobile app 2. Click on the “pro le” icon in the top right corner 3. Click “show door code” and enter your pin (code) 4. If you’d like to re-set your door code, click “new code” Important to Know Inside your apartment, a Dwelo hub will be set up near your media box.

Your media box is where your internet and cable come into the unit and feed your apartment with these services. Do not unplug or move the Dwelo hub or the media box as this will interfere with your ability to access your apartment. In the event you are locked out, do not call a locksmith. There is a $200 fee for attempting to tamper with your Dwelo system. Utilize the instructions on page one if a lock out occurs.

GETTING CONNECTED XFINITY ON CAMPUS (XOC)

For fall 2020, streaming service is a part of your bill through Xfinity o n Campus (XOC) at no additional cost. Beginning spring 2021, students can opt-in to this service for $6.99 per month. To sign up for spring 2021, visit housing.utah.edu/apply-reserve/optional-services/

INTERNET

There is wired connection and high speed wifi a t B lock 4 4. I nternet i s monitored for users causing slowdowns as a result of file sharing, viruses, or other violations. If a resident causes a slowdown for any of the above mentioned reasons, the applicable internet port will be disabled and corrective action will occur. ANTI-VIRUS and FIREWALL SOFTWARE are required to be loaded and maintained on all computers connected to this service. To connect to the wired or wifi i nternet a t B lock 4 4, c onsult w ith your Community Manager. One wireless router will be provided in each apartment. Residents will be able to set up routers themselves. Details on how to connect to WiFi in Block 44 will be discussed in your first community meeting.

SMART HOME With a Smart Phone If you plan to use Dwelo from a smart phone, we encourage you to set up your pro le once you move in to Block 44 (you won’t be able to set this up prior to moving in). Here are instructions for how to use and set up Dwelo from a smart phone: 1. Download Dwelo in the Google Play or Apple App Store and log in using your new password.

Without a Smart Phone If you do not have a smart phone or do not plan to use one for this purpose, proceed in following the instructions in your email (sent to you between now and move-in day) to set up your Dwelo account and pin on a laptop, computer or iPad. Once you have set up your pin, memorize it! Whenever you need to access your apartment, you will enter this pin on the door keypad above your door handle. After moving in, you can continue to access Dwelo via a laptop, computer or iPad to update your profile.

In your Dewlo profile, you will see a variety of functionalities (after moving in): A. Lights, Locks, and Climate The center area of the screen gives you access to each apartment function. This is where you can adjust the temperature of your apartment, or turn the lights on or off.

B. Dwelo Mode Settings In the top left corner, you can configure home, away, and night modes. This includes settings for the thermostat, lights, and lock settings. Toggle between modes by tapping on the orange button at the bottom of the main app screen. We recommend configuring these settings with the other residents you will be sharing an apartment with (upon move in).

C. Profile Settings This is where you can view or reset your door pin and edit your prole.

PACKAGE CONCIERGE RECEIVING PACKAGES AT BLOCK 44

To receive a package at Block 44, you may utilize a system called “Package Concierge”.

HOW IT WORKS - You will place an order, online or other, using the mailing address mentioned on page one - The carrier will deliver the package to Block 44 - You will receive an instant notification of delivery - You will then be able to retrieve your package, at any time of day, seven days a week, with barcode or username HOW TO REGISTER - On or shortly after August 15, you will receive an email with your username. You will use the link provided to create your PIN and register for your account. Please note that the system will prompt you to enter a credit card number. This will be used to charge an activation fee of $20. The only time your credit card will be charged is if you do not pick up packages within a five day window (see below). If you do not wish to enter a credit card number, you may opt out of Package Concierge entirely by not completing this registration and informing the Block 44 Leasing Office of your intent to opt out.

Please note that if you choose to opt out of Package Concierge, you will not be able to recieve packages at Block 44.

- When a package has been delivered, you will receive an instant notification via email, text message, or push notification and/or phone call.

- To retrieve your package, you will go to the lobby and enter your username or scan your barcode, then enter your pin. All lockers containing your packages will automatically open. Lockers are located kiddy corner from the leasing office.

- Packages not picked up within a five day window will be charged a storage fee of $3 per day.

MAINTENANCE As with any building, residents are expected to take care of their space. Please familiarize yourself with the following information and guidelines.

Appliances shall not be removed from the premises. Residents are responsible for any repairs or damage resulting from misuse and shall reimburse for necessary expense incurred in the repair of such equipment.

Residents will be charged for unclogging plumbing equipment in the event that a foreign object used by a resident caused a malfunction or damage to the equipment.

Do not destroy, deface, damage, or remove any part of the apartment, common areas, or grounds.

The disposal should be used for the purpose in which it was constructed. The following items should not be put in the disposal, to include but not limited to: metal, string, grease, co ee grounds, nut shells, fruit pits, corn on the cob, potato peels, paper, wire, stringy foods, bones, or non-food items.

The following items should not be disposed of in the toilets, to include but not limited to: diapers, paper towel, sanitary napkins, tampons, food, toilet wipes, baby wipes, and rags.

Dishwashers should not be overloaded and only detergents made for automatic dishwashers should be used. A rinse agent to improve drying and reduce spots and build up in dishwasher is recommended.

To keep the oven clean, use mild detergents following each use and do not use hard abrasives on chrome or glass parts of the oven. Never place foil under the burner pans.

Do not overload the washer or dryer and donot use it to wash and/or dry bulky items such as comforters. Leave the washer door open after each cycle for better ventilation.

Always clean the lint screen prior to using the dryer, and never operate it without a lint lter.

ammable substances (e.g., cooking oil, gasoline, paint thinner, or alcohol.)

Decorations: Residents may only use adhesive hangers when hanging pictures, mirrors, etc. DO NOT use nails and regular hangers.

Keep the apartment clean.

Use all appliances, xtures, and equipment in a safe manner and only for the purposes for which they are intended.

Do not litter on the grounds or common areas.

In the event of any defects in the plumbing, xtures, appliances, heating, and cooling equipment, or any other part of the apartment or related facilities (including any observation of mold or mildew on the premises), residents should give Block 44 prompt written notice.

Do not make any repairs within the apartment yourself.

Maintain a minimum of 55 degrees inside the apartment at all times to prevent water lines from freezing during winter months.

Patios and balconies are to be kept neat and orderly at all times.

Do not hang bathing suits, brooms, mops, rugs, lights, etc. on the patio or balcony.

The installation of sunshades, blinds, or hanging fabrics is not allowed on the patio or balcony.

No storage of any personal property or trash containers is allowed on the patio or balcony.

All plants must be free-standing and have saucers underneath them. Hanging plants are not permitted on the patio or balcony.

No bikes and/or motorcycles are allowed to be kept on any patios or balconies at any time. Unapproved bike hooks are not permitted and will be removed.

Only furniture designed for outdoor use is permitted on the patio or balcony.

Fish tanks sized 29 gallons or smaller are allowed.

WHAT IF SOMETHING IN MY ROOM IS BROKEN?

Resident is responsible to notify Block 44 in writing if a maintenance issue arises in or around the leased premises (except in the event of an emergency). This would include anything speci c to the building such as the heating and cooling system, appliances, etc. Maintenance requests will only be handled after hours in the event of an emergency.

Routine notices and requests for repairs may be served on management by delivering a copy of the notice to a property representative at the onsite o ce and submitting a maintenance request on the o ce iPad, or by sending it by certi ed mail return receipt requested to the property manager. You may also make your request online at www.liveatblock44.com under the Residents tab on the far right. You will receive an invitation via email to use “Rent Cafe”, prompting you to set up a user name (use the same email) and password. If you have any issues setting up this system, please stop by the Leasing Office for assistance.

GAS RANGE

Your apartment has a gas range. Please take precautions to operate this appliance safely.

• Use the right size pot for the burner, the flame shouldn’t extend past the sides of the pot • Do not allow food to boil over, this will put out the flame while leaving the gas on • Don’t line the burners with foil • Don’t leave flammable materials near the stove • To troubleshoot issues with your stove, submit a maintenance request to the Block 44 Leasing Office (online or in person) • If you smell gas, immediately contact your Community Manager or the Block 44 Leasing Office depending on the time of day.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

In the event of an emergency, call 911 directly for help. Notify the HRE on-call sta and Block 44 immediately thereafter.

Block 44 is considered University of Utah property. We expect all HRE residents to adhere to campus policies, including no smoking, no pets, etc.

PETS

As a resident of University housing at Block 44, you are not allowed to have a pet. Owning a pet in your space at Block 44 is in violation of housing policy. If you are in need of an accommodation for an emotional support animal, please contact the Center for Disability & Access.

OVERNIGHT GUEST POLICY Due to Covid-19, there will not be any overnight guests allowed throughout the fall 2020 semester.

TAILGATING FREE ZONE Residential buildings are locked 24 hours a day and are only accessible to students who live there.

Tailgating is when you let someone in the building without an escort. It’s not rude to be safe! Do not let people in a building if they don’t have access to get in.

UCARDS You’ll need your UCard for a lot of things on campus! You will receive your UCard with your welcome packet when you check in during your assigned move-in time this August. To replace a lost UCard,please stop by either of the UCard locations on campus: in the Union Building, room #158, or at the University Hospital, room #AC143C (use the south entrance).

Campus courtesy escorts are always available as a resource to students while on campus. You can request an escort to your residence hall, car, or any campus building. Courtesy escorts are operated by University security personnel and may include campus police officers. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 801-585-COPS.

GARBAGE & RECYCLING Trash chutes are located on each floor of the building and recycling bins are located on the second floor of the garage.

Do not place trash on the ground if dumpster is full. Rather please proceed to the next closest container to dispose of the trash. Large articles, such as furniture, should not be placed in trash.

Boxes should be broken down before disposal.

Resident shall not dispose of hazardous materials in any container or other location at the Community. Resident shall only dispose of refuse in compliance with applicable laws. Resident may be charged a fee for not following these guidelines. Do not store trash on porches, balconies, or in the hallways.

Block 44 ensures your safety after hours by providing professional security monitoring of the grounds at night.

PAYING HOUSING BILLS All housing and meal plan charges are included with your tuition bill. This bill will be paid through University Income Accounting & Student Loan Services. The HRE office will not accept payments.

You can view your tuition bill online in CIS. All housing and meal plan charges are due when tuition is due, unless you have signed up for a payment plan.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS & PRIVACY ACT (FERPA) If you would like to allow individuals to access your Housing U account to pay your bill, you will need to release your FERPA rights through Housing U in CIS. FERPA only allows others access to the student's relevant financial information and applies to minors enrolled in the University. Once logged in, select “FERPA Consent Release Form”, check Housing & Residential Education as an area of release, and create a pin. Please remember to share your pin with anybody that you would like to have access to your account. Contact the Office of the Registrar for more information about FERPA.

RENTERS INSURANCE

Students living in Block 44 are required to provide proof of renters insurance prior to moving in. Renters insurance should cover your personal property and general liability. Students are responsible from ensuring renters insurance is up to date, and should re-submit coverage information if it expires. Proof of renters insurance should be submitted via the online form at housing.utah.edu/living-the-u/resident-policies-responsibilities-2/

POLICIES All students have the responsibility to abide by university and HRE policies and to report safety concerns and policy violations that are taking place in their room, suite, oor, and/or building. You should know that there are consequences for making choices that violate community standards.

You are responsible for all policies outlines on our website and housing contract. More information about the student conduct process and our policies can be found in the Residence Hall and Apartment Policies section of our website at housing.utah.edu/living-the-u/resident-policies-responsibilities/. 2020 RESIDENT ADDENDUM TO THE HOUSING & RESIDENTIAL EDUCATION AGREEMENT Housing & Residential Education is dedicated to doing its best to maintain a clean environment for students who choose to live on campus during the Novel Coronavirus pandemic. As you can imagine this is a challenging task and requires diligence on the part of everyone, including residents. Please plan to help us by doing your part in keeping your living spaces clean and complying with the CDC guidance on Covid-19 spread prevention (covering coughs/sneezes, regular hand washing, physical distancing, wearing a face covering, etc.). By choosing to live on campus, you agree to abide by all CDC, campus, local, state and federal guidelines for the well-being of the community and staff members.

- I understand and agree that if a roommate or apartment-mate becomes ill with Covid-19, I will need to follow guidance by the HRE department and health officials, which will likely include isolating in-place for 14 days.

- I understand that I may be required to be tested for symptoms of Covid-19 (temperature checks, nasal swabs, etc.) and provide test results to HRE in order to support the safety of the community.

- I understand that I have contracted for a housing space and not a specific room. If circumstances arise, such as closing a building, I may be re-assigned to an alternate space.

HRE has extended the contract cancellation deadline to June 15 so that students could evaluate their own health and safety plan. While we would - I understand that Dining Services will continue to comply with Health like for you to be part of the on-campus community, we understand if this is department guidance and may be primarily in a “To Go� format or limited seating format for the year. not the environment that best fits your needs at this time.
