WILL COUNTY HEROES
TEACHING & NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
During the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers and nurses were placed on the frontlines of our community. Nurses cared for our sick, comforted their families, endured long shifts, and continually put service over self. Teachers were faced with reconstructing their lesson plans to accommodate virtual classwork and managing the difficult return to in-person learning, addressing many challenging issues faced by students throughout the difficult period.
Will County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), through the Will County HEROES Teaching & Nursing Scholarship, will ignite a new generation of heroes by providing $10 million in funding for teaching and nursing students who live in Will County and expect to work at Will County education or health care institution after graduation. Univeristy of St. Francis and three other higher education partners have been awarded funds to generate this new pathway for learning and employment.
New and current USF teaching and nursing students who are willing to enter the field and take on the challenges of these noble professions are eligible to apply for up to $2,500 a semester (or $5,000 per academic year) of scholarship money toward their education. The program also provides a pathway for employment after graduation, connecting students with local partners who can support their continued education and ensure a working environment that will foster positive career development.

Will County Heroes will provide assistance—including financial aid and connection with employment partners— to new USF students interested in teaching in Will County after graduating who are pursuing licensure in:

• Secondary Education
• Special Education
