PERSONALIZED LEARNING From the moment you arrive on campus, you will be surrounded by a network of academic and social support. With classes averaging just 21 students, you will get to know our expert faculty in the classroom, but you’ll connect with them during regular office hours, partner with them on research projects, or meet in one-on-one advising sessions.

Our Transfer Learning Communities are purposefully connected to our core curriculum and bring together our new transfer students around a specific theme. During your first semester, you will also have a class connected to the theme, and that professor will serve as your academic advisor. Students take classes together and live near one another, sharing an experience where academics meld with exciting co-curricular activities and community engagement. CHANGEMAKING For the past 10 years, USD has been a designated Changemaker campus because it has shown a full commitment to provide opportunities for all students to engage in social change and social innovation both inside and outside the classroom. We encourage our community to commit themselves to addressing social issues that matter to you and exploring new ideas that will have a positive social impact.

Through innovation challenges, such as the Fowler Global Innovation Challenge, or organizations such as the Changemaker Student Committee and the Hive (providing support and mentoring), you will have many opportunities to embrace changemaking. You can even explore Changemaking as a minor!

GLOBAL EXPERIENCES Our location at the edge of an international gateway uniquely positions us to give students a broader view of the world - both from campus and beyond. USD has been ranked among the top five schools in the nation for the past five years for the percentage of undergraduates participating in a study abroad program. In 2015, the university earned the prestigious Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization, which “recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that are making significant, well-planned, well executed and well documented progress toward comprehensive internationalization.”

Throughout the university, no matter the major of study or the degree pursued, global themes permeate the curriculum.

For example, all undergraduate students will have a minimum competency of three semesters of a foreign language to enhance their cultural understanding of others. USD offers courses in nine languages, as well as programs such as Asian, Italian and Latin American studies. There are approximately 135 academic study abroad programs offered in 44 countries and 76 cities to experience and learn about different cultures, languages and customs. And we offer the Madrid Center, our first, permanent international location. It serves as a hub to connect with our European partners and alumni, and annually hosts more than 100 undergraduate students taking a wide variety of courses including a unique, multi-city seminar through Spain.

CAREER OUTCOMES LIFELONG SUCCESS We understand that families make a big investment in paying for college. We are committed to providing students and families with the resources to make the USD experience a reality, one that not only pays off in the short term, but in a lifetime of success.

All undergraduates participate in one of three Career Readiness Programs - Passport, Compass, or Connect - depending on their intended major. These programs complement the curriculum and assist students in exploring their passions, helping them develop career building skills, and connecting them with networks that lead to meaningful post-graduation plans.

Through our Career Development Center, you’ll have access to workshops, career fairs, alumni mentorships and networking experiences, such as our Torero Treks.
