Welcome to USD’s Transfer Fall Orientation.

This program is especially designed for you, a transfer student. It contains all the information you need to navigate each day of Transfer Fall Orientation.

Optional sessions will be identified by an asterisk (*). All other sessions are mandatory.

Learn about how you can get involved in the Torero community and connect with other new transfers and continuing students.

Learn the ropes. Receive essential information about requirements, resources and campus departments to ensure you have a great start at USD.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27 – RESIDENT STUDENTS ONLY Welcome to your new home! Today is Move-In Day for resident transfer students (students who will be living on campus). All events today are for resident students and their families only. Please refer to the Transfer Student Arrival Guide you received from Residential Life for more detailed information about move-in for your assigned residential area.

Unpack, get settled into your room, meet your hallmates and complete on- or off-campus errands.

These meetings are mandatory for all transfer students living on campus. Residence hall expectations and resources will be reviewed.

Student Life Pavilion, Pavilion Dining Lunch is available for new resident students and their family members on campus. New resident students eat for free at Pavilion Dining in the Student Life Pavilion (SLP) with their name tag.

Torero Program Board (TPB) Presents: Taste of TPB* Various locations along Torero Way, from the Student Life Pavilion (SLP) to Aromas (in Maher Hall) The night will feature multiple events and activities including a concert, movie screening, open mic event, games, snacks and more. *This event is optional.

Torero ID card: If you uploaded a photo over the summer, you will receive your Torero ID card when you move into your residence hall. Commuters and students who did not upload a photo may get their Torero ID card at Campus Card Services.

Visit the on-campus U.S. Bank branch to open an account or ask your banking questions. ATMs are located at the Hahn University Center and the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Visit Information Technology Services (ITS) at either location listed above for tech support.

USD Torero Store

Hahn University Center (UC) Saturday – Sunday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Visit the USD Torero Store to buy your books, supplies, technology and USD apparel. If you ordered your textbooks online, your order will be available for pickup during normal business hours.

You must show your email confirmation of the order for pickup.

Mail Center Move-In Pickup

Mail Center at Maher Annex Saturday, 8 a.m. – noon

If you are living on campus, visit the Mail Center to pick up any packages sent to your university address prior to your arrival. After noon on Saturday, you will be able to pick up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Mail Center.

Howdy, folks! I, like everyone here at USD, am extremely excited to

welcome you to our campus! As a transfer student myself, I speak from a

place of experience when I say that Transfer Fall Orientation is a major aid in

both your academic and social transformation into being a Torero. With this in mind, I strongly encourage you to make the most of this weekend and welcome every opportunity that comes your way. I can’t wait to see you all around campus either during orientation or throughout the semester. Most importantly, remember to have fun!

Mass of Welcome* Jenny Craig Pavilion (JCP) A very special Mass has been prepared to welcome all new students and their families into the USD community. All denominations are welcome and encouraged to attend. At the conclusion of Mass, families will have the opportunity to take part in the USD tradition of blessing their students as they begin their college experience.

Mass is the final Transfer Fall Orientation parent and family event. It’s time to say your goodbyes!

Transfer Fall Convocation

Transfer Convocation is your official welcome to the academic community of USD. Hear from USD’s president, James T. Harris III, DEd, and learn what it means to be a Torero at USD. 2:30 – 2:45 p.m.

Transfer Transition Team: A group of continuing transfer students who support you as you transition to USD.

Mother Rosalie Hill Reading Room: Located on the main floor of Copley Library, this is a silent study room open to students and the campus community during library hours.

Torero Program Board: An organization charged with coordinating student programs and events held on campus.

Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice: This building is home to several academic programs and houses classrooms and meeting spaces.

Student Life Pavilion: A focal point of student life and dining on campus. Pavilion Dining, Tu Mercado and several student organization offices can be found here.

Resident Assistant: A continuing student who lives in your residence hall and facilitates your transition to USD and serves as a resource for your first year.

University Terrace Apartments: Located across Linda Vista Road from the south side of campus, many transfer students live in this university housing and enjoy awesome views of the bay.

Missions Café: Located in The Valley by the Mission Crossroads office, this is a great place to grab a meal or snack.

Study these “isms” and you’ll be speaking “Torero” in no time!

UFMC

United Front Multicultural Center: This center engages the USD community in exploring and affirming the unique identity of each person and serves as an educational resource for students, faculty and staff. It’s located in the SLP.

TU MERC

Tu Mercado: A full-service grocery store, deli and coffee bar located on the second floor of the Student Life Pavilion.

THE VALLEY

Student Leadership, Involvement and Changemaking: This office oversees all student clubs and organizations and is located in the SLP.

Jenny Craig Pavilion: Home to several USD athletic teams, including men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball.

It is also used for large special events, New Student Convocation and Commencement.

PSAFE

Public Safety: The Department of Public Safety is located on the south side of the Hughes Administration Center and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help with emergency situations.

Missions A and B, San Buenaventura, SAPs, Valley Field, Mission Crossroads, Missions Café and Fitness Center: Collectively, these residence buildings, amenities and offices located on the east side of campus between the Student Life Pavilion and the Jenny Craig Pavilion are known as The Valley.
