This award is named in honor of Dr. Charles “Chuck” McClaugherty, for his years of dedication as the first Director of the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center and his tireless efforts in promoting ecology and environmental science to Mount Union students as well as wider audiences.

This scholarship was established in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of Jill Herrick’s graduation (June 1965) from Mount Union College. This scholarship is available to one or two full-time undergraduate junior or senior students, majoring in Education. Preference will be for students planning to teach children ages 3-14 and for those who have a genuine love of children, a strong sense of commitment to children and their education and be dedicated to the teaching profession.

The Eugene “Duke” Barret Coaching Prize

This prize was established in 2017 by Christi Barret, in honor of her father, Eugene “Duke” Barret who was a multi-sport athlete, M-Club Hall of Fame Member and former Head Football Coach at Mount Union. This Prize will be awarded to a male or female student from Mahoning, Stark, Portage or Trumbull County in Ohio, who plans to pursue a career in teaching and coaching. Preference will be given to a rising senior or graduating senior who exhibits the following qualities: a strong work ethic, good academic standing, demonstrates good character and leadership skills.

The Donna J. Michalek, Ph.D. Memorial Engineering Prize

This prize was established in memory of Donna J. Michalek, Ph.D., founding member and chair of the School of Engineering following an untimely death in 2012. This prize is awarded annually to a graduating student who, in the judgment of the department faculty, best exemplifies the characteristics of an engineer.
The Taub Engineering Endowed Fund Award
Marek France
The Taub Engineering Endowed Fund was established in 2016 as a gift by Russ and Anne Taub. The interest from this fund shall be used at the discretion of the chair of the engineering. Preference shall be given to award an add-on scholarship to an underrepresented engineering student in financial need. The recipient shall be in good academic and social standing.

The Daniel M. Gorman Prize in Athletic Training

This prize was established in memory of Dan Gorman, Director of the Athletic Training Education Program, after a vehicle accident took his life in January 2011. This prize is awarded annually to an outstanding student who is studying athletic training.

This prize is awarded to the junior student judged most outstanding in the athletic training major, considering both cumulative grade point average and performance as an athletic training student.
The Rosemarie F. Ilg Crumbley Award

This award is given to a deserving junior or senior student in the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Nutritional Sciences, who possesses qualities like those of the award’s namesake. This prize was established in 2016 by her son-in-law, Wendell, and daughter, Ruth Gerrard Cole, of Lisbon, Ohio. Mrs. Gerrard, RN graduated from Alliance City Hospital School of Nursing in 1933, having studied at Mount Union College. Married to Presbyterian minister, Rev. Paul T. Gerrard, she continued her skills as pastor’s wife with kindness and compassion. The prize will be awarded annually to an outstanding student majoring in nursing.

The Outstanding Senior in Music Education Award

This award was established by the University of Mount Union Women’s Club in honor of the late Mrs. Charles B. Ketcham, wife of the University’s fifth President. This award is presented to the outstanding senior in music education whose name will be placed on a plaque in Cope Music Hall.

The George L. and Margaret Wagner King Prize for the Performing Arts

The George L. ‘22 and Margaret Wagner King ‘23 Prize for the Performing Arts was established in 1990 by the Kings’ children: David D. King ‘49; Judith (King ‘55) Douglass; and Ann (McEldowney ‘53) King, wife of the late Roderick L. King ‘52 in memory of their parents. The annual prize is given, preferably, to that member of the junior class who has shown the highest degree of excellence in drama or music performance during the past academic year. A senior who will be entering a pre-professional graduate program in the fine arts is also eligible. The recipient must be in good academic standing.

The A.P. Rickard and Alice M. and Stanley T. Evans First Year Student Prize is made possible by the family of the late A.P. Rickard, ‘07, former president and treasurer of the Canton Engraving and Electrotype Company, the Cleveland Engraving Company, Inc. and Consolidated Graphic Arts Corporation, and outstanding alumnus of Mount Union College. Mr. Rickard’s daughter, Alice, was the wife of the late Stanley T. Evans, D.D.S. Both were graduates of Mount Union College. This award is given annually to that member of the Freshman Class who has the highest grade point average at the close of the academic year and is considered by the College faculty to be the most worthy of this prize.

The Ralph K. and Elizabeth B. Ramsayer Second Year Prize was established by Dr. Ralph K. Ramsayer, Class of 1920, of Canton, Ohio, and his wife. A cash prize will be given to the most outstanding member of the Sophomore Class. Scholarship, development of personality and leadership, and achievement in extracurricular subjects will serve as a basis for the award by the faculty.

The University of Mount Union chapter was chartered in 1947 and invites students to begin membership after earning at least a 3.5 grade point average in their first year at the University. The Society of Pi Kappa Lambda is the only college honor society in music recognized by its membership in the Association of College Honor Societies. Since its establishment 102 years ago, the primary objective of Pi Kappa Lambda has been the recognition and encouragement of the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship. Chapters of the Society annually extend invitations to membership in Pi Kappa Lambda to the highest ranking students of junior, senior, or graduate status. The elections are the responsibility, as well as the privilege, of a faculty committee representing all of the active members of the Chapter.

The Regula Scholars program is for students who show academic excellence, strong leadership skills and a deep
dedication to public service and civic engagement. Students may apply for the program as early as the spring semester of their first year for consideration for participation in their following year. Regula Scholars must be invited to apply, complete an interview and excel in four areas: academics, leadership, public service and civic engagement. Scholars must maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA while in the program, complete 150 hours of community or public service and hold leadership roles on campus. They are given a stipend for use with professional development and special projects.

An undergraduate student is eligible to be placed on the Deans’ List for any semester, following all of these conditions: complete at least 12 semester credit hours, have at least a 3.550 grade point average, not have any course graded below a “B”, not have a course graded as “U”(unsatisfactory), not have a course marked as Incomplete. The Regula Scholars program is for students who show academic excellence, strong leadership skills and a deep dedication to public service and civic engagement. Students may apply for the program as early as the spring semester of their first year for consideration for participation in their following year. Regula Scholars must be invited to apply, complete an interview and excel in four areas: academics, leadership, public service and civic engagement. Scholars must maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA while in the program, complete 150 hours of community or public service and hold leadership roles on campus. They are given a stipend for use with professional development and special projects.
